Setting up and pairing my Sonos speakers and updating software

I have recently spent a lot of money in India buying the Sonos Beam 2 about 3 months ago as well as the Sub Mini just 3 days ago. I successfully set up the Bheem two and connected it to my Samsung Frame 65. No problem, fantastic sound!! Now to pair the two speakers and to get my subwoofer to work, it has been a complete nightmare. The App just does not work. It keeps taking me around in circles and constantly indicates a failure. Every attempt to pair the two and get my Sub for to work has been a disaster for 3 full days. One minute, it will show the system, both speakers, five minutes later. It will show there is no system. It is completely erratic and refuses to update my system software. My Internet Wi-Fi is excellent. I use it for everything. Being a photographer I own an Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and I have Fiber optic Broadband. I really need a solution to just link the sub to the beam without using the app. Please help, I am getting desperate and very, very frustrated. I have tried everything, and I mean everything!!!

Ok, Maestro.  I still cannot figure this out for the life of me….even the conversations here are just too technical for my limited understanding of tech and wifi. Can you please tell me, in the most basic way, what I need to do to get this incredibly expensive tech toy I have invested in, to just work!!!! If I start from scratch, and get a new internet connection from my local ISP, what should I request with respect to specs for the modem etc. I will use LAN cables (Ethernet) to connect both the Beam 2 and the Sub Mini directly to the modem and make sure they are on the same network, and use my laptop or iPhone, also on the same network to set them up!! Will THAT work??? What is the best and simplest way to connect the Sub Mini to the Beam 2? My Beam 2 works but I am just not able to connect the Sub Mini and get it to work. Can you please give a set of step by step instructions to do this. I have never felt more retarded and technologically frustrated and challenged ever in my life!!! Cmon Sonos don't leave me stranded here after spending a small fortune by Indian Standards!!

lol - it can feel like that!

You don’t need to change your router or connection.  Mesh systems cause specific issues where devices (Sonos) want to talk to other local devices.  This can be because of multiple issues which I won’t go into but they are trying to be be very smart and in doing confuse devices that want to communicate with other local devices connected to other mesh nodes.

I suggest that you call Sonos tech support at this stage, as they have more diagnostic tools available to them and they can also talk you through specific test and steps. (They weren’t available over the weekend)

What speakers do you want to add and should it be set up as surround?

Hi - A few questions...

Can you confirm that Wi-Fi is still enabled on the Beam?  Are you trying to add the Sub mini as a device or as a Sub directly to the Beam?  How is the Beam connected - via ethernet cable or Wi-Fi?

Yes the beam works perfectly through the Frame 65 TV as well as Airplay from my phone….not sure what you mean by the ‘sub Mini as a device’ or ‘sub directly to the beam’?  I just want the sub to work in tandem with the beam and give me the fabulous sound. I have been promised.. The beam is connected by Wi-Fi..

Within the App, are you selecting the Beam and then selecting Add Sub?

I have tried everything the problem is the app. It keeps taking me around in circles. One minute, the system shows up with the Sub and the Beam the next minute, they both disappear. Then I delete and reinstall the app and they show up again briefly and disappear. Or the app says that I need to update my software and when I try to do that, it says there is a problem and gives me the most silly solutions. It never indicate what the problem is. And this happened again and again and again and again. Is there any way of linking the Sub to the Beam without the app is my question. I have tried the app on my iPad as well, and I have the same issues. Should I try to get an android phone and do this on that? Can I do it without using the app at all.? I know from every thing that I have learnt online that the app is useless. Why they cannot get their act together is beyond me. Can you help?

Short answer: No

TBH, this sounds like a network issue, due to the system appearing and disappearing.  I suggest you follow the steps in my article next to rule this out: https://en.community.sonos.com/speakers-229128/tips-tricks-resolving-random-issues-impacting-sonos-devices-6845346

Ok will do. Thanks. I also just came across a slightly technical article, which I frankly don’t understand, but something to do with my mesh network. Which I have, so, I will check out the issues with that as well. I’ll have to find a technical bloke to help me with that tomorrow. Thank you so much for your support and help. Let’s hope I can get this up and running

Maestro, thanks but that sounds like another nightmare effort….I just don't have the bandwidth or the time or energy to jump through hoops trying to fix this issue. What if I just get another connection from my ISP in my bedroom where the speakers are going to live for the next few years? I’ll connect the Beam 2 to the internet directly with the modem via an ethernet cable and connect or BOND the Sub Mini to that via the local wifi network that the Beam 2 creates, Will that work?? Do I have to reset my speakers to factory settings to do that? Just give me a heads up and step by step instructions to do this from scratch. I would really appreciate that...No American tech support at this stage!!! Please!! I cannot even understand their American accents. Thanks

Maestro, Thanks a ton for your support and your willingness to listen...it kept me trying everything I could and finally, EUREKA!!! I got it done. I moved both units right next to my main modem and plugged both of them into the network using ethernet cables. After little bit of backing and forthing, they connected and I was able to bond the Sub Mini to my Beam 2 after I created a new Room.

Then I disconnected them and took them back to my TV room and re-connected them to my Wifi...and they were BONDED!! It feels amazing and the sound was everything that I hoped for...Thanks a ton my friend. Have a fantastic year!
