Hi @Cdsalgad

My apologies - I don’t use Apple products, so I forgot about this!

Please open the Sonos app and go to Settings Icon » General Settings » AirPlay » Group Non-AirPlay Products and ensure that the setting is enabled.

I hope this helps.

I can not enable this setting because all my Sonos are airplay capable.

Hi @Cdsalgad

Understood. In that case, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports, to see if they can find out why your speakers are ungrouping.

I hope they are able to help you.

Its ridiculous that I should even have to ask this question in order to be able to use my eight Sonos speakers, but since Airplay doesn’t work with my Sonos system on my Windows PC, can I be assured that if I go and buy an iMac, I will have a working system?

After months of trying and working with Sonos tech support, I have completely given up on the Sonos app -- endless bugs -- so I want to use Apple Music as my library manager.

Hi @jm3

I know of no issues with AirPlay-ing from macOS devices, but please be aware that this issue with being unable to do so from iTunes on Windows is temporary.

As such, I would recommend using a different connection method in the meantime - though, this would depend on which speakers you have. If any of your speakers support Bluetooth, this should be a viable alternative for you, or there is Line-In, which may or may not need an adaptor, depending on your speakers.

I hope this helps.

I am able to AirPlay to Era-100 from MacOS and iOS, but some users are not:

I can’t AirPlay from Windows Apple Music to Era-100.

My experience over the years is Apple software doesn’t perform as well on Windows.

You don’t need to go and buy an expensive computer to store your music library, I uploaded my local music library to Apple Match about 10 years ago (now part of Apple Music subscription as Sync Library), and pay Apple to maintain the infrastructure for me to access my library from anywhere, eg Sonos Apple Music Service, AirPlay from phone in car, Bluetooth on the beach, etc

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/itunes/itnsa3dd5209/windows

There is a limit of 100,000 files, and each file must be less than 200MB, but that should handle most libraries, ie a 20 terabyte NAS.

Hi @Cdsalgad

I don’t have the numbers to hand, but the majority of people who use AirPlay do so from an Apple device. In fact, as far as I know, using iTunes on Windows is the only way to transmit AirPlay without an Apple Device, period. My assumption is that it acts slightly differently due to this fact. I think the number of people affected by this issue will be relatively low. Our priorities are to fix the issues that are affecting the most people, so yes, this issue is temporary, but at the same time, I cannot say when it will be addressed.

If anyone affected by this issue has not yet called in to our technical support team, I’d encourage them to do so, as an increased related case count is the only thing that will speed up the resolution of this issue (but please don’t expect a resolution while on the call).

I hope this helps.

Is not the only way. Lots of devices are afected, for example any device running roon, or squeezelite, booth software runs in many different platform.
I think the problem also affect older Mac hardware.

I understand that a problem need time to be fixed, what a I don’t understand an is a big qaqc fail, is first broke things that were working an second, not fixed fast.
if someone let me downgrade my speakers to October firmware, I would be more than happy.

Fair enough - I did not research it at all, it was just that none came to mind.

The scope of the issue may have changed - I don’t know. My documentation mentions Windows and no other sources.

Downgrading software is not an option.

I hope this helps.

FWIW, Apple Music on Windows does not AirPlay to my LG TV, I can AirPlay from Apple Music on iPhone to TV. Windows Apple Music AirPlay issues are NOT specific to Sonos devices.

Therefore it must be true that AirPlay on Windows (or other non Apple OS) is behaving differently than on an Apple OS, as AirPlay is part of Apple OS, but a ‘bolt-on’ for Windows.

April 5, 2025: I’m having this exact problem with my new Era 100 speakers (Airplay not working from Windows). I just got off the phone with Sonos support, the guy was great but had no solution (so this issue apparently not in their knowledgebase).

I tried both iTunes and Tuneblade on Windows, and both nonworking (at least to Era 100). But both work fine to other Airplay devices. Certainly indicates that it is definitely a Sonos issue.

It is frustrating call Sonos support and receive answers totally wrong like Sonos era is only Airplay 2 and also answers like the problem is not in the base…6 months and the problem is not fixed.

What devices work fine? I am unable to AirPlay from Windows to any non-Apple AirPlay device, eg LG TV.
