Do the play 5's (second gen) offer a higher quality surround sound experience than the play 1,s? I currently have the play 1's in a fairly large room and they're ....eh, ok but I was curious nonetheless. For music, the play 1's are more than enough with the sound bar and Sub, but I feel the surround can or should offer more. Thanks
Hi fellows, just to check: is the PlayBar & Play:1s unable to connect via 802.11n on the 2.4GHz frequency? I'd read from somewhere that the newer SONOS series of equipment is able to even make use of 802.11ac; so at "the minimum", I was expecting it to hook onto my 2.4GHz 'n' network...? From my wireless access point management page, I always see the PlayBar & Play1:s using 802.11g "only".
Hi Am I correct in thinking the Sonos play 1 will not work on 802.11n via 2.4ghz? Reason I ask is I was about to change a setting in my Asus router on the 2.4ghz band to use N speeds only and lose the b/g. Currently its set to mixed so it supports all bands on 2.4ghz but most of my devices can do 802.11n. Only Im having a few router related issues and changing it to n only was suggested as a fix but Ive got a strange feeling that in the year 2016 the Sonos play 1 will restrict me from doing this! Thanks
I am thinking about purchasing the new Google home voice recognition product, I understand that Sonos will work with Amazons echo in the near future. Does Sonos have any information regarding google home integration?
I have a TV sound bar and play 1 speaker. Both items were added to the Sonos system and are activated however I am unable to group them. I have Living room 1 and Room 2. When I go to either of the rooms in rooms menu it is not giving me the "group" option. I tried several times. Any ideas how to fix this problem? I have no clue why "grouping" option is not coming up in either of the rooms settings. Any help will be appreciated! Paul
Hi all, I've just bought a pair of Sonos Play:1 to join my growing family of Sonos products and I'm moving into a new house so while I'm doing first fix I'd like to look at some neat ways to mount and cable these speakers on the wall. I'd like to avoid seeing cables or plugs, but I dont see any creative solutions out there apart from just taking the standard power cable down through the wall to a remote socket. Hard-wiring into the wall is an option, but by the time you've got a cover plate it's going to look a little unsightly. Anyone got any creative or neat solutions? Thanks, Tom
Hi all, hoping to clear up something. I have two Play 5s that work fine with streaming. I'm trying to connect my record player; http://musichallaudio.com/music-hall-mmf-2-2le-turntable/ and pre amp https://www.amazon.com/TC-750LC-BLACK-Professional-Moving-Magnet/dp/B000A36XZS I was sure I read elsewhere on this site that the set up would only require a y line out to one of the paired speakers, but this only gives me sound through one speaker. Also, if I wanted to cut down on wires and have the speakers a little further apart, would the Sonos connect do the job? I also have the bridge located in the house for use when streaming music. Not sure if this is relevant to this topic. Thanks in advance.
Hello all, Since line-in is not available for PLAY:1s (gosh) : 1) Can I easily connect 2 PLAY:5s to the same single desktop computer ? My sound card only has one audio output, can i use something like this : https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41nKGYhcmQL.jpg ? 2) After the connection is done, how do I enable stereo ? 3) I plan to use the speakers for music, gaming and video. Should I expect a lag in sound rendering, even if the connection is wired ? Thanks everyone
Hi there. Just got my Play 5 and want to hook it up to my Denon DP-300F turntable. No other components. I have a bunch of Play 1s in the house. That's it. Was told that I didn't need any other hardware which seemed strange. Any help would be appreciated.
I just moved into a new apartment, and my subwoofer is not consistently working. It is a two floor apartment, and I'm considering the boost but I lived in a home with two floors previously and it worked fine. When I go into room settings it shows as a question mark. I ran a diagnostic; here is the number 7529673 - can someone please assist?
have a play 5 and a play 3 in the same room and want to create a stereo pair. The app allows me to link either to another of the same, ie. two play 5's or two play 3's, but not one of each. Why is this? Surelt the technology is the same, just different speaker size and case sound path dynamics. I should be able to pair play 1 to play 3 and play 5.
I want to be ale to take my Sonos Play 1 somewhere and have instant good sound, in a hotel or a friend's home. Just plug the Sonos to the wall and use my phone to publish a Wifi network, which Sonos connects to and plays. I realize that service quality depends on how good my data feed is to my phone, but it should be good enough, otherwise it seems its just a software job to implement it..
I am trying to connect my sonos connect to my yamaha rx 675 receiver but not getting the speakers from the receiver to also have the music from the play 1 speaker. Not sure what I've done wrong. I have the audio out on the receiver to the audio in on the connect. Help. I do have output from connect to input in receiver as well as output from receiver to input in connect. Still can't get sonos to play on yamaha or vice versa. Help.
Hi all currently I have 1 Playbar, 1 Sub, and 2 Play1. All grouped together in "Living Room". I would like to be able to create two groups: - Living Room TV (all of the above) - Living Room Musik (just Sub and Play 1 or Sub and Playbar) right now this is not possible as a single speaker cannot be in more than one group ......
I accidentally got lotion on the front of my speaker, and the outline of the lotion is still there and its really bothering me. Fortunately it hasn't impacted the sound of the speaker. But I was wondering if anyone knew how i can clean off the outline of where the lotion fell?
I am moving to NYC from London and have two play 1's and a playbar. Will these devices work in the US? I think I need to buy a new power cable and change the current, is that right? Thanks!
Does it matter whether you connect speakers to the 2.4 or 5 GHz network? Besides if someone has a iphone 4 or something not capable of connecting to the 5 Ghz network...
Can someone advise I had a problem indexing my music library, in short, the sonos software would not allow me to remove a music share (music folder on my PC desktop) so I decided to uninstall all the controllers on 3 mobile phones and the software on my PC and try again. However, when I re-installed the software on my PC the problem remained. I therefore followed advice on this community and carried out a factory reset on both my Play 1's and my Play 5 (Gen 2). When I tried to follow the instructions to connect to a new system the network will not recognise any of the speakers. I have also tried to connect the Sonos 5 by Ethernet cable directly to the Router, the router detects the Sonos 5 but when the option to connect is selected the installation does not go any further and I am provided a warning that the system could not connect. I have ensured the Firewall is configured to allow Sonos controllers and have turned the firewall (Norton 360) off/disabled. I have also tried switc
As a stand-alone iPhone app, TuneIn Radio can play rtmp streams no problem, but the TuneIn service within Sonos cannot do it ("incorrectly encoded" error message). Let's get rtmp capability up and running in Sonos asap!
I have read quite a few posts such as https://en.community.sonos.com/controllers-software-228995/password-to-avoid-guests-changing-music-36704 I have a dual band router and guest mode enabled. As such, when connected on guest network and I try to access the Sonos via the Android app, I'm shown that Sonos is searching for the system and can't find it! This is great. The issue is, whilst logged onto the guest network, when I use a casting app (to send music) I can access the speakers and as such, stream! This defeats the purpose of the guest network which was the advice given on the cited post above. More worryingly, this actually appears to corrupt the guest setting on the router because afterwards, I can access everything via Sonos (whilst connected on the guest network). However, I am assuming this is an issue of the router, not the Sonos system! I've seen many pubs/function rooms etc use Sonos systems and as such I have to believe there is a way to make it secure but I'v
Will sonos be partnering with HomeKit like they have done with amazon???????????
Hi people. My daughter is having a birthday party on saturday. But the venue has no wifi and we need some music for games. I wanted to tak my Play 5 (1st Gen) and plug my phone into it using line in. Then play my spotify music that has been downloaded to the phone. I have read the advice to set up autoplay, which I have done. But when I have tried the line in without a wifi signal it wont let me access the app. Can anyone help? Thanks
Have a mix of 5s and 3s in different rooms. I cannot listen to any music on Spotify without at some point the music jumping half way through the song, stopping completely, loosing connection to spotify, or randomly stopping in certain speakers. It's doing my head in!! Sometimes different devices will show different speakers available! Would really welcome help!
I generally use my Sonos system in party mode. All zones are playing the same source. When adjusting the volume for a room I am in, I later discover the volume in another room is way to loud. I don't realize it until I walk into that room or my family complains. Is there a way to specify a maximum volume or freeze volume changes for a room? Regards, ultrajones
Hello all, I am currently using 4 ZP120 connect amps in various wired speaker zones at my home. I now would like to add 2 wireless speakers in my garage because its way too far away from everything else. Is there a way to do this using my ConnectAmp system?
