Changes to volume mapping and impact on Sub output

Thank you for your feedback regarding the recent 14.12 software update with Enhanced Clarity for Arc

In this update, we made a change to Arc’s audio profile to improve dialogue clarity and the overall sound experience. This change is based on feedback from our listeners in the field and brings Arc in line with our other Home Theater products, resulting in a more accurate representation of the sound as intended by the content creator.

The updated tuning adjusts the spectral balance of Arc+Sub to achieve a more accurate representation of the sound and an improved sound experience. While the Arc+Sub output capability remains the same,  the mapping of volume across the 0-100% range has been adjusted with this release which means low and mid volume levels are relatively lower compared to the previous tuning so you may need to adjust the volume slider to achieve your pre-update volume level. The maximum volume and bass output are unchanged. We acknowledge that this change was not made more clear in the release notes and in the future we’ll be sure to make sure we communicate these rare changes more effectively.

Please note, we have identified an issue for some users of Arc, Beam and Ray whose configuration includes a Sub (with or without surrounds), who may find their Sub output is lower than desired after performing a new Trueplay tuning.

Users with Beam or Ray bonded with Sub can increase the Sub level for a more powerful low-end response, however this won’t have the same impact for Arc users. Customers using Arc bonded with a Sub (and/or surrounds) who find their Sub output is lower than desired following performing a new Trueplay tuning, should temporarily disable Trueplay on Arc until this is addressed by an upcoming software update.

Trueplay tunings for Home Theater configurations without a bonded Sub are unaffected, including standalone soundbars and those bonded with surrounds only.

Moderation edit:

With the 14.18 software update, the above mentioned issues have been addressed, and the Enhanced Clarity for Arc adjustments are retained. There was a clear preference within our community for the previous volume settings, and these have been restored. This will be apparent immediately after updating to 14.18. The Trueplay issue has been fixed. Customers who experienced a lower Sub level after performing Trueplay after updating to 14.12 will need to update their systems and then perform a new Trueplay tuning in order to address these improvements in their system. Customers will hear a more powerful low end response, meaning any Sub level adjustments made after 14.12 should no longer be required.

We have app update

And when I pressed that - it updated my app.

Now every time I go there, it still tells me to update my app - even though the app is at 14.18

Same here

I feel like we didn’t get an announcement on this NOT being or ACTUALLY being the fix, because they THINK it might fix the issue - but DON’T wanna put their foot in their mouth.

Finally finger crossed for the Sub fix

I dont think it was fixed tbh

I dont think it was fixed tbh

Who knows?

No announcement, no Peter Pee yet, no thing.

They told us last time, that it wasn’t a fix for 14.16  - this time they said nothing, which makes me think it could be a fix - but they honestly aren’t sure if it will work… haha..

I mean, the last time they communicated on the issue they got a ton of backlash and that dude is now listed as retired.

No i mean it all points to it still being broken i mean sonos said

  • Bug fixes and performance enhancements.

and the trueplay bug is still making volume louder with it off and no trueplay reset.

Dear sonos can you confirm if this update fixes the sub issue? Because a tiny bit of transparency wouldn't hurt.

The lack of TruePlay reset is almost certainly the nail in the coffin for this update being the fix.

Sonos, you clowns.

Why not just try it out? If you did so, have you also ran Trueplay again?

I mean, if it doesn’t sound to you like it’s fixed, it probably isn’t. What’s the point in a placebo effect?

The last time I just tried it out is how I got into this mess!!

It's better than it was sub has more impact with truplay on,still have to turn treble down to make it ok for my ears

Also front soundstage seems narrow getting more width from rears but will need to test more

It's no worse which of late is good news.…

Back to testing

Till I see a sweep test in a graph - I will assume the placebo effect is strong with some.

I AM THE PHONE ON THE STICK GUY!!!! :D

Yard Stick TruePlay for life…. well unless Sonos doesn’t fix things anymore.

@MrZeDark

Just tested my 2 fives and sub also my moves and they are much better

I had issues with more than the arc and had turned truplay off on all speakers mentioned now it's back on

Early days yet but will post anything else I notice

Find it odd that I have to turn treble down on all the speakers mentioned but heyho..

No update available for me yet, UK

Hopefully Peter Pee is working on a new video

Deafening silence from Sonos..

I'm finding some improvements in the Arc's soundstage, it's definitely wider, I've been playing around with setting and I'd turned the surrounds off but had to stick my ear to them to make sure they were off, they were, however I still don't like the sound of voices, sound way to shrill for me, turning trebble down don't help much here either, I can alter the sub output with trueplay on and I'm back at the 0 point, definitely a step forward I think. To the poster ubove, peterwhiteside80, I'm in the UK and have updated..

@Aidyb

I have treble at -6 which seems to work also turned rears to -4 seems a lot better but it's not 14.10 😊

I’m in the UK too and I’ve got it. Maybe keep checking back. I’m on iOS.

Maybe an android thing?, I use my wife's iPhone for trueplay etc

Eh, sub doesn’t seem to be back to 14.10 levels still so I guess the wait continues.

I just don’t understand why this is such an issue still.

FU Sonos. I hate you!
