SONOPHONE APP IS BETTER

SonoPhone is having a moment. This is from a week or two ago

I wish I had found out about this app weeks ago. 

Is it “from Apple”, or “available from the Apple Store”?

How do I add a new device in SonoPhone? 

You don’t per the app description.

If you spent $3 on the app expecting admin features I hear the dev will refund your money.

- no support for administrative features (adding/removing players, music service, ...). You need the official Apps for initial setup of your system, SonoPad will pick up all changes automatically.

- no options to set alarms or sleep settings

Good question. When I installed the app it located  all my Sonos speakers and found My Favourites and My Music. When I turned on my Sonos Roam it added it too. Magic.

I believe they mean if you bought a new device and had to add it to your system. Sonophone will find all your speakers though, even works with S1 I read, though I don’t have any to test.

I don’t know about a new device. I guess you could install the new device with the current Sonos 2 app and then control it with the Sonophone app.

Thanks to Sonophone I can use my turntable again via a Sonos Connect. This has been largely broken since the new app came out. Sonophone found the turntable immediately proving my system problems are directly the result of Sonos’s POS app.

I have a very extensive Sonos system in a large house. In despair at the new Sonos app, I am now using an alternative app to control my Sonos system - the app is called sonophone.  It really is a life saver. It works, it’s dependable and reliable. I can control my entire Sonos system again and it’s a dream.  

Were you having issues with the Sonos App then? If so, what were they and did you discuss the matter with Sonos Support Staff? I find the new Sonos App works okay on my iPhone.

I think you’ll find that you are in the minority. Check the feedback on this and many other sites. The new Sonos app is a disaster.

As an Android user, I again feel like the red-headed stepchild. Not only does their current app doesn't work, it sounds like this wonderful Sonos phone app is not available because I'm an Android user.  I'm beginning to feel that I made a mistake in spending a *  of money on buying these speakers. Why is it all the good functionality is saved for Apple people.

Well…switch to Apple..not that complicated.

And, again this is why Android users feel like they are not treated equal.

From talking to developers I have worked with over the years and reading the tech articles or interviews from solo, small development teams two reasons stand out why individual or small teams develop for iOS and not Android.

1. Apple have kept control of both the hardware and OS so performance is a more known quantity, which also makes supporting the app easier.
2. Historically Apple users are more willing to pay a nominal fee for an App, which covers the Apple developer fee for publishing the app and gives a bit of extra money.

In contrast Android devices run on a wide variety of hardware, random versions and random OS modification by handset manufacturers and network operators. Generally Android users will choose a free ad supported app over a paid version.

And doesn't the Sonos application allow for returning the updated settings to default?  And, as a Pixel 7 pro user, not all users are going to choose free when the paid version is so much better.  This is kind of why I picked the amazing hardware.  So the excuse is because Android is more flexible, that is the reason to not treat them equal.  I got it.  So we are the Red-Headed step children.

These are questions/issues you should addressed to the people who make the Sonophone app, or to Google.
