Just wanted to add to this thread sharing my own dissatisfaction with the new v80 iOS app.  Its a poor effort and very frustrating user exerience.  Missing features, hard to navigate and unreliable.

App constantly saying “Something went wrong” when trying to play from BBC Sounds or other music services.  Fortunately the Beam auto-plays from the the TV and Im able to use the MacOS app for my other devices.

I rarely post. Agree with all that has been said. I will add that I think I speak for every one of your customers when I say that we don’t care about how pretty the UI is for Sonos. We just need to find the speakers, find the music, turn it up, turn it down. Just like we had before. We need Swiss Army knife design.

I had a random incoming call from my boss on Zoom today. I jumped on the Sonos app to turn down the music but the app was listing the wrong room. I couldn’t turn it down.

We all know the old app wasn’t perfect, but it could at least be available to turn down the music 99% of the time. Today, I had to unplug the speaker from the wall and then call my boss back.

i had the same...I had to take a call in the street because i couldn't turn off Sonos...ridiculous!!

Can’t you just select the speaker you want and then press pause? All you have to do it drag up from the bottom.

Just got the Sonos email offer of save 20% on new speakers

no chance not with this rubbish app

Couldn’t agree more. I wouldn’t pay 20% of the price let alone 20% off!

System is a croc of s****!

Struggling to see why Sonos are so pitifully slow to address this problem. Just revert back to the old app, yes it wasn’t perfect but the latest app is unusable and makes using Sonos frustrating as hell!!!!

So what do the more knowledgable among us like Rhonny, press250, Bumper, et al. advise we do? Should I load the most current update(s), or do what I can to stay right where I am?

I’m afraid to change a damn thing, because every time I’ve done that in the last couple of months, I’ve been sorry.

Absolutely positively DO NOT install anything right now.

I’m hoping today’s ‘oopsie’ is ironed out by the broadly telegraphed next version of the mobile app, but things are mighty mighty fubar as they stand right now.

As an aside, I was courageous (okay, okay, STUPID) enough to install today’s v16.3 firmware on behalf of we huddled masses. And my Android tablet is literally useless at this moment: the v16.1 app is blocked with “update required” and the new app crashes on start. Tried reinstalling each of those versions, no joy,  rebooting, same. I mention this in advance of the GoFundMe I’ll shortly launch. 😉

This is the best advice. Going forward use caution. Wait until other owners update and give the all clear.  I if you haven’t done so turn off auto updates ASAP.

Hey @Bumper, Android users* on Samsung devices see this when the app crashes …

… there’s an awful lot to unpack there!

* In all cases, updating to the v16.3 firmware was coincident with this behavior

Tried rebooting Sonos play 1 - get error message 1000

Tried rebooting Sonos play 3 - will not make sound to pair with phone!

another day without sound system!

now app will not find Sonos play 1.

am truely over this system.

someone from Sonos needs to help!

Error 1000 tends to need you to install the Windows or Mac version of the app, downloaded from the Sonos website, and run the update from there. As it is built on the old app architecture, it has tended to work well for curing 1000 errors/failure to update.

Has Sonos publicly acknowledged the new app has made using their system a truly horrible experience?

If not has anyone got any clue why? It’s like they are actively sabotaging their own company. Has the new app changed something firmware wise that cannot be rolled back, and they’re worried about bricking devices while running around making the app incrementally worse with each small “fix”?

I thoroughly agree with comments above - the new Sonas app is awful. It typically will not connect to music and I cannot switch the music off - I have to pull the plug to the speakers from the wall to stop the music!  And trying to control the volumes of the various connected speakers is even worse - I adjust the volume in the app and it mysteriously changes itself back.  Adjusting volumes is almost impossible.

GIVE ME BACK THE OLD APP - it worked properly and well.  Not like this heap of cr*p which should never have been released in such a dismal and poor state.

When can I have the old App back??? When will these problems be fixed?

If you use android phone you could delete new app then download the S2 gold app from apk mirror

I did revert to the old excellent app on Android but on 17 July Sonos prevented it working. Just a notice to "upgrade" without which you could not proceed. Reluctantly did so. It did not display NAS content visibly, could not shuffle play a folder, on shuffle playing songs included half hour comedy programs and finally said

program has a bug clear cache. on pressing that button I can't even get it to load inspite of a reinstall.

Whenever I contact Sonos they try to blame our WiFi, it's not! When will they acknowledge there's an issue and do something about it.

You can diagnose the issue yourself. When you have a problem with the mobile app, try whatever you are doing on the desktop app. If it works there you know it’s the pos new app.

Totally agree. The design of this app was meant to drive you crazy. It sucks. Plain and simple.

I may add that we have digitized hundreds of thousands of songs from records and CDs in an iTunes library on our Mac, which we now cannot access anymore, never mind being able to steer it from a mobile.

Hundreds of thousands?  The local library limit is 65K, so you couldn’t access all of them before either.  The post had me up till then (though the “financier” part was a bit of a stretch).  Nice try, though!

Yes you can, by putting each album or group of albums in a playlist, and have a music library of playlists rather a library of records. I too have hundred of thousand tracks available in my music library through the playlists. The library calls the play list, then sonos opens the playlist (album or group of records). doing so you can multiply the limit of 65K by a factor of 15 or 20 or more.
