Just installed the new app. But I can’t find where the music library went. Also no option to add a folder to the library
Moderator edit: We have an article with instruction on how to add a music library share on Windows and MacOS. Have a look.

I use an nas with 250gb of music in mp3. Sonos worked fine for a decade until, the May update. Initially could not even see the NAS in Sonos iOS app. Updates and shanking smb setting made it visible and eventually usable. The compilation album issue is annoying and prevents playing any compilation album. Multiple same albums listing each artist but none can be played. I’ve read all forums over the last months. Yesterday I chatted with someone at Sonos and the long and short of it is they know about the compilation track issues and was told engineers are working on it but will take time. Ridiculous is what I told her. I asked what sonos would do for us longtime users flummoxed by this moronic ill prepared update and was told nothing. Just be patient. I asked if they would reimburse me for cost of other Sonos app I download that works, but no, not happening. Told her this would be a textbook chapter in business school course on how to ruin a brand. Anyone using a 3rd party iOS app for Sonos that works with large music library? If so, please share the name.
I still cannot play my music library from the app (android). What am I doing wrong?
You probably aren’t doing a thing wrong. It’s the app. If the app was as it once was, you would easily find it by hitting the Browse option, select said library and then, Sonos would do the rest. Those day are gone.
Still don’t see/have available a ‘Music Library’ tab to select on the opening page with ‘Select A Music Source’. Before the May update debacle, it was always there on both Sonos 1 and Sonos 2 controllers before that. My Sonos Playlists still exist, but are ‘...unable to play..’ per message displayed when attempting to play any of them. All songs contained within now have ‘.m4a’ extension previously not there. 8000+ songs purchased via cd then downloaded, or individual songs/albums purchased through iTunes still not accessible since early May…. Hours spent on the phone w/ Sonos techs, and Apple techs subsequently to no avail. Any fixes discovered out there?
For immediate relief from the music library constipation that IS Sonos, download Sonophone for $4.00 and you’ll easily access your libraries. The app lacks some of the other features but, enough to get you up and running. Audirvana is another alternative that I’m still researching.
It is astonishing that the Sonos app from 15 years ago had usability and functionality far exceeding that of the “new and improved” app we are now forced to suffer.
On a iPhone the app under “Your System” has a section close to the top of the window “Your Services”. I shows an Apple Music symbol that is NO HELP to you.
Scroll down below a whole bunch of nonsense and you will find “Your Sources”. My music library is listed as an option there.
Getting the correct zone to play is still a headache and I have to go back to my desktop Mac to select different zones for different music but at least I can access the music library that I have collected over the years!
Hope that helps
Ian
Thanks , checked my folder is shared and connected via folders , go back to sonos app go to manage, (which I had tried before) No option or mention of music library settings. All they offer you are music via apps eg spotify, radio stations or podcasts. No way to connect . any ideas how you get Music Library Settings ?
what is the story now please…. ?
My NAS based Music Library started working well again a few weeks ago, after the recent app updates. Previously (while the app was in the ICU) I had removed the library from the Controller. I simply re-added it , the indexing ran for a while, then it was available.
It’s been reliable and pretty much “ the way it used to be” since. Just one small (annoying) issue left to fix: every time I start one of my Playlists it always start with the first song, even if I select shuffle.
Otherwise I’m happy.

ninja… are you on an Android/Windows platform or iPhone/Apple? And, did you install the Firmware updates? That part is something I haven’t done. At least my TV works. I’m paranoid that, if I do, Sonophone won’t work either.
I am Android/Windows and no, I did not consciously install any firmware upgrades. AFAIK they happened automaticaly as the start of the fiasco … a few months back.
(BTW I ediited my previous post while you were posting ...)
got my music library up but now albums that have multiple artists or compilations are now listed multiple times so its impossible to play these albums unless you want to choose each song one at a time. Sonos said this would be fixed by July or august but still broken

Same here. On all Apple - iMac, iPads, iPhone. Thought it was strange that the first song in playlist would start and then all shuffle for the rest. No big deal...
Does Sonos intend to replace Library Access on the app? If so, When? The workaround is hardly better than nothing. It’s a nightmare to browse, and it is unavailable when the computer it sits on is inactive. All in all, the disaster continues. As Sonos owners and supporters since around 2006, it is so disappointing to see their advantage implode.

Exactly - it’s a disaster.

Presumably, the latest Sonos app is interpreting the data from our iTunes Library file in a different and less helpful way, since nothing has been changed in iTunes, so far as I’m aware? Why can’t Sonos put things back the way they worked before?
After many weeks “without” the SONOS that I want and originally had, I’m fed-up of reading the abject rubbish emanating from SONOS about getting things fixed after THEY broke it so …..
Let’s ‘cut to the chase’, SONOS is no longer what I signed up for and I’m “terrified” of making further ‘upgrade’(?!) mistakes that ultimately lead to me losing all usability of features that I actually want, specifically MY library of music.
My first purchase of any SONOS products goes back to the years before the Sonos app! I still have their original ‘remote control’ which of course is no longer functional, something that I’m truly concerned is where the rest of my Sonos components are headed.
Currently I have a mixture of my older (original) components as well as 3 newer components, the latest being the SONOS Roam. My ‘older components’ can still access MY library (as they’ve always done) via the S1 app but the ‘newer components’ are (supposedly) linked via the S2 app although not able to access MY library even if I try to use the ‘identical pathway’ as used via S1 !?!
Many years ago my original SONOS set-up involved a straightforward link to a newly purchased WD NAS-drive and I don’t recollect any difficulties with either my phone (Android) app or the NAS drive. I’ve since updated my (Android) phone several times and have added a newer NAS-drive (BUFFALO link station 210) all without difficulty even though I’m not particularly technically minded. So why have SONOS ‘abandoned me’ to the current uncertainty and why am I being expected to address issues like “if the NAS has a min/max setting for the SMB protocol and you perhaps have set the minimum to SMBv1 and maximum to SMBv3 (as an example) then perhaps see if setting both to the same protocol version might resolve your issue - try SMBv2 for both as that’s fairly compatible with most things.” I’m no technophobe BUT WTF?!
What I’d like now is to continue using my SONOS components via the (Android & Windows laptop) S1-app with MY LIBRARY. As such I’d like to be able to ‘downgrade’ S2 to S1 any components that are able to function in that environment, then I’d sell any “non-downgradeable” components. Unfortunately, it seems that to do anything (new) like ‘add a new component’ via the S1-app, I’m required to ‘upgrade’ the app which I’m guessing will result in me losing MY library ….. “catch-22”. Are SONOS prepared to give a straightforward (safe method) to achieve this??
I have reverted to using Roon to control my Sonos devices . It has no issues indexing my library. What a shame I'm having to use a third party application to do the job of the Sonos app.
Like the previous poster I have no interest in spending my precious time debugging network issues and network share bugs on this app.

Hello Jim600
I’ve read a lot of new posts on this subject in the past few days. I’m sick and tired of SONOS now and like you have been a customer since the start. My NAS no longer works along with my entire system. I can’t even reliably stream Apple Music or Spotify (my backup solution to having NO MUSIC in the house). I’m at a loss as to how the senior staff at SONOS can still be in their employ. Broken promises and a piles of very expensive worthless junk!
Sadly I have now purchased an entire new system from another well known company. I can’t find a way to connect my extensive library to the new system yet but at least I have music in the house again without the infuriating frustration of SONOS and their broken kit and promises (angry now)
Best of luck, GC
I took have abandoned Sonos like they a abandoned me.... Moved to the LMS media server, and the squeezer app for Android.....all works fine on my old Sonos speakers (play1's and play 3's ..four of them). Works great for my local library, and better radio sites than I got on Sonos. Got a $25 raspberry pi to act as the media server, but worth it given the pain of dealing with Sonos now. I was another very loyal customer, and used to rave about my setup....now I warn people off.

Jim, maybe I can give you a little hope. I also use Android/Windows/NAS based SONOS and I too experienced all the deteriotations in the SONOS App & services over recent months.
** BUT** now it is OK. As mentioned in my posts above, about 2 weeks ago, after the SONOS app was updated (again), I was able to reconnect to my Music Library using the SONOS Controller on one of my PC’s and basically it’s all working pretty much “as it was”. Maybe ou just need to discconnect reconnect your library.
If you don’t succeed contact SONOS help staff direct. They are usually pretty good, once you make contact.

I hung on and that saved me spending ANY money, as the new Sonos App and library are working just fine here with the latest Sonosupdate to play my own locally held music. As per attached.
There’s only one issue I’m seeing with the display of compilation albums, but that’s in the pipeline to be fixed, plus I can use AirPlay to stream those, or access them via iCloud, Plex in the Sonos App anyway.
My Sonos standalone controller for my laptop stopped working two days ago. Says the system is there but won’t connect. I’m running Windows 11. Oddly enough I have an older laptop here running Win10 that I was setting up as a media centre and decided to install the Sonos 2 controller and it worked straight away. My android phone app is also working fine. Most frustrating as I have to use the web app now, which I don’t like.

That’s cool how does iCloud work with your system?
It doesnt work , it will Not work and there will be no fix in the Future to work.
even they offer Good speaker they offer the worst Service, servicequality and Support
Not worth any penny

Glad it's working for you now..I should have clarified, I didn't NEED to spend the $25, I originally ran LMS on my mac at no cost..I just chose to go that route as I wanted some separation. For me it was a trust thing, LMS is open source, and updates don't get pushed out to me, I choose when to update, and can always roll back if I needed to. Despite the Sonos promises of not making this mistake again, I moved over before that was all said, as I was seeing no response from them, and wanted to get running again. But glad it is working for some
Here is the issue with my library; all of my CDs were ripped using dBPowerAmp on the same settings. Initially as WAV and then batched converted to FLAC. The files are grouped into sub folders - A to C, D to F, G to I etc.
I can add the share for A to C and D to F, but not G to I or V to Z. No information on what fails or why - the error message is meaningless.
At one point I split down the folders further and further to increase the scope of what Sonos could index, adding shares piecemeal. But when I add a new file and try to run a full reindex it falls over.
HEOS indexes the share, Roon indexes the share - Sonos - nah and with no information on why.
