Let's talk about Sonos Connect, Connect:AMP, Sonos AMP, and setups using Sonance architectural, or your own speakers and components.

Will the phantom center speaker, produced by the Sonos Amp, be of lower quality if the Amp is fed only a stereo input signal, compared to if the Amp is fed a true 5.1 surround input signal?
Has anyone placed connect amp outdoors in a weather proof protective case? I wonder if a closed case would cause the unit to overheat.
Hi I have my Sub tucked away behind the tv. Partly because the bass sounds good coming from the corner of the room and partly so that my wife won’t see it and ask how much it cost! It looks like a real dust magnet and I’d like to put something over it to protect it. Would it cause problems with airflow, overheating, or would a thin material be ok to use? ( for Sun in the title please read Sub )
Is it acceptable to locate my sub woofer behind my stereo console?
I have a Sonos system made of 2 Play 5 and a SUB and would like to connect a CD player as I have hundreds of music CDs. How can I do?
I currently have a PlayBar, Sub, and 2 Play1s configured in surround mode. I am moving to a new home soon that has 4 ceiling mounted speakers that seem to terminate in a built-in cabinet below where the TV will be mounted. I'm wondering how to best utilize those speakers in a new configuration. Should I get a new Sonos Amp to drive those and let them "replace" the Play1s (if that can even be configured that way)? Could the Sonos Amp live in a cabinet without any problems with heat? I'd appreciate any advice the community can provide. Tony
I’m hoping someone can give me some advice. I recently purchased 4 Tic GS5 speakers and 1 Tic GS50 sub, that I plan to power with a Sonos Amp. The Sonos Amp is 125w/Ch at 8 Ohms with 2 Channels. Can you let me know if my plan to wire the 4 GS5 speakers in series into the sub will work, if powered by the Sonos Amp? Thanks, Marc
I have a Onkyo receiver pushing my 5.1 surround in my living room and Sonos Amp pushing my 6 channel zone 2 through speaker selector. My center channel sucks in my living room and was hoping to add the Beam. I stream tv mostly through YoutubeTV so that is only stereo. If if I hook up Beam to my TV optical out on my TV could I use that but also use the receiver for surround at the same time (when not only stereo feed)? THANK YOU!
Hi, I have a very basic setup with a Project 2 Turntable, a Cambridge Audio Pre-amp, an older style Connect Amp and some third party Quad speakers. I simply want to use the AMP to power my turntable and play through the speakers but can't seem to get any sound despite having followed the official guide. Can anyone suggest anything? I am using the 'Line in' mode on the app and I can see soundbars going up and down as if it's receiving the signal but no sound through my speakers at all. I've attached some photos of my setup. The other Cambridge Amp in the photo is redundant. Thanks in advance
I have a Technics turntable, and a Kenwood KR- a56R Stereo Receiver. I would like to get this hooked up to the sonos system in my house. A couple of questions, this is assuming I need to buy the CONNECT: - There is not a "Line Out" or even RCA Out option on my reciever. The ONLY out options are to Speakers, and are the old Speaker wire types. Do I connect the Speaker Out to the CONNECT? In order to do this, I will need Speaker Wire to RCA adaptation I am assuming. - DO I lose quality here? I.E. the Receiver has multiple Speaker Out terminal spots. If I only connect 1 "speaker out" to the CONNECT, do I lose the stereo effect? - What would be the best speaker set up for this arrangement? Currently in that room, I have a Sound Bar (for the TV) and 2 PLAY 1 speakers (Surround) and a subwoofer. Should I add a 5th? Thanks!
If i purchase an Amp or Connect:Amp and have old fashioned speakers wired into them Then connect my computer via 3.5mm input Do i play my music through the Sonos App on my PC or through ITunes(where my music is organised)?
I have been disappointed in the Sonos Amp and how it performs with an Acoustic Landscape AS41SYS. The AS4.1 consists of 4 satellite speakers and 1 sub that presents it's self as an 8 ohm load to the receiver. I previously had this system powered by a Yamaha RX-V667 receiver rated at 90w per channel @ 8 ohms. I had tried a Sonos Connect:Amp and it simply didn't produce enough volume. I recently purchased the Sonos Amp rated at 125w per channel @ 8 ohms and really I can't tell a difference between the Sonos Amp and Sonos Connect:Amp. The Yamaha RX-V667 produces more volume (albeit without all the Sonos features). It confuses me that the Yamaha RX-V667 rated at 90w per channel out performs the Sonos Amp rated at 125w per channel both at 8ohms. The speaker setup is the same when testing both receivers. Some of the runs are long (~200 FT) but I used all 12AWG oxygen-free stranded copper. Sonos support is chewing on this, but I was wondering if others out there have tried this par
I did not find in the description that it has a separate DC power supply. Anyone can shed some light please? Thanks
I want to know what the normal and maximum power consumption is for PLAY1, PLAY5, PLAYBAR and SUB when I play? Not when idle. Can´t find that in any specs on sonos.com (the minimum is stated for some of them ex. PLAY1 appr 4w) I need to know this because I have limited power in my apartment. It is not important that your answer is exactly 🙂
We are about to start a backyard renovation and I'm trying to plan ahead. I currently have several Sonos speakers and am using a Connect to create a Sonos Zone for our primary home theater/AVR (Denon AVR-X3500H). Here's my question: If I skip the Sonos Amp, go with a different passive outdoor speaker brand (leaning Polk currently) and connect the speakers to Zone2 on the Denon via the speaker terminals, will I be able to control the volume of Zone2 playback outside with the Sonos App that is tied to the "Living Room" home theater zone? Or will I need to use the Denon app to control the volume of Zone2 from the receiver? In other words, will the volume slider within the Sonos App for "Living Room" control both Main Zone and Zone2 simultaneously of the AVR?
Does anyone know if the Sonos Amp supports connection to Bose Lifestyle V35
Is it possible to use any combination of Sonos products to drive passive hard-wired stereo ceiling speaker pairs in 5 separate rooms around the house and configure each room as its own zone? All speaker cables come back to one 19" rack-mount cabinet in the garage right next to the router where I already have a single Connect:Amp wired up to the kitchen ceiling speakers. I was using a Nuvo 3-zone streaming amp but its PSU just failed and it wasn't that good anyway. Would I use multiple Connect:Amps (expensive) or is there a better solution? Thank you for your help. Tim.
Hi, I have recently moved to a house that has 8 wired ceiling speakers (all 8 ohm) and would like to incorporate them into my Sonos set up. I bought a Connect:Amp, which allows me to use 4 of these speakers but I was wondering is there anyway I can get all 8 working off one Connect:Amp? In other posts on this topic (e.g. https://en.community.sonos.com/components-228996/number-of-speakers-a-connect-amp-powers-6793754) I have seen mentions of "Impedance Matching Speaker Switches" though I am not sure if this will allow me to use all 8 speakers at once or just to switch which 4 are working at any one time. Any advice that you could give me would be greatly appreciated, if you are referring to particular types of products (like the Impedance Matching Speaker Switches mentioned above) it would be great it you could also link examples. As a note I am UK based.
I have a bridge and connect which are both showing as active and setup correctly (I've had my Sonos for 4 years with no issues until now). However, suddenly the volume on my speakers is insufficient (like a whisper even when turned to max volume). Any suggestion please? I tried calling the 800# but the wait time was well over 30 minutes.
Hello, I'm interested in the best sound, not price, as we're building a home, and I want to do it right. I have the option to install a pair (or any amount really, but a pair for comparison's sake for this post) of the new in-wall sonance speakers, along with an amp in my garage, or hang a pair of play:5's on the wall. Which combo will have the more robust, loud sound, assuming they're both detailed Sonos audio I'm used to? There aren't many comparisons or reviews yet on the in-wall units, so I'm looking for some Sonos staff to chime in here. I'm thinking in-wall vs in-ceiling units so the sound travels out of the garage a little, lets say if im washing my car in the driveway, and since the garage is rather wide (3 car) and not that tall, i think it will fill the space better if the speakers were projecting horizontally. Also, i'll most likely put a sub in the garage as well.
Guys we have a long established Sonos network. As part I use a ZP90 (which) is hardwired to the router to drive a B&W zeplalin speaker. This speaker is the least used in the house. In trying to use it yesterday it did not appear as a speaker in the Android app. So i have tried to add it (as a connect as ZP90 not listed as an option) i have tried new ethernet cable, no eithernet cable, power cycles and a factory reset (which it does not seem to do as no lights on front). Any suggestions? On a side note the system did a wobble yeaterday, loosing all conectivity requiring speakers to be re added, by hardwire of one speaker to the router. I mention this as the ZP90 was the original hardwired connection (yes i know this not required for some time but it is an old setup). This may be indicative of the ZP90 dying and a new mesh being required.
I am adding a new zone to an existing multizone setup. This will be a zone connected to a home theater receiver, to allow the home theater speakers to be used as a Sonos zone when the TV is not in use. The consultant I am working with has spec'ed a Sonos Connect for this setup. I have an old ZP80 that I am not currently using. Can I put that in, instead of buying a Connect? The rest of the system uses ZP90's connected to amps and ZP100s connected directly to speakers. Also, if I use the 80s and 100s in my system, will I have any compatibility issues if I want to add new units later, such as SUBs or PLAY:1 (or :3 or :5)? Thanks for your help.
I have brought my Sonos system into a new home already fitted with a Legrand OnQ Cat5 LyriQ whole house sounds system. I have four areas served by this system including an outdoor, covered deck - the system seems to use a line in signal which is amplified at each location through an amp built into the wall control. Getting support from Legrand on this system has been an exercise in futility. What I'm wondering is if I need a Connect or a Connect:Amp for this system to stream music to these non-Sonos areas? My instinct tells me its a Connect only, but I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with a similar system - past whole house systems I had needed to be amplified at the source which was then connected to the whole house speaker selector, not this one.
When, if ever, will the matte black SUB be reproduced? I refuse to buy the glossy version after seeing a friend of mine's scratched and dust covered. On top of the cosmetic damage the SUB doesn't look right with the other products on the shelf currently!
Hi, I'm in the process of installing some in ceiling speakers in my (UK based) house. I've got a Sonos amp (the newer black model) and I'm running it to a Monitor Audio Stereo In Ceiling Speaker in the bathroom (AWC265-T2 https://www.smarthomesounds.co.uk/monitor-audio-awc265-t2) and using this 16 gauge, 2 core cable(https://www.smarthomesounds.co.uk/16-gauge-2-core-speaker-cable). My question is, do I need to run 2 individual lengths of this (2 core) cable to the speaker, or 4 individual lengths of cable? I believed it was 4 lengths, but the AV installer said it was just 2. Thanks, Pete
