Speakers

I have a house and a cottage full of Sonos speakers, including Play 1, Play 3's, several Play 5's, an Amp and more. One of the Play 5 units has suddenly stopped working. I tried moving the unit to a different location and exchanging the power cord with one of the other Play 5 units but it seems to be completely dead. There is no flashing light and it has vanished from the network. I even tried assuming that it was just the LED light that wasn't working and attempted to initialize the speaker on my network but no luck. At this point, I have to assume that the unit has simply died although it's only a couple of years old which seems premature. Is there a Sonos repair facility or some way I can get this unit replaced under warranty? I love my Sonos system but am very disappointed that it has died at such a tender age.

Hey guys! Thanks in advance for the help. We are getting married this summer and will be having a small acoustic band (2 guitars and a singer) at the wedding. Is there any way possible that I can connect the line out from the band's amplifier into a sonos system? I would really like to place sonos speakers throughout the venue so you can hear the live music wherever you are ie, the bar, the bathroom, changing rooms. Is it possibile, by mean of an official (or less official) way, to split somehow the audio and the video source in order to play the video on the tv and the audio on my Sonos One? If I cast a movie from a pc with plex/kodi to the smart/chromecasted tv it works fine, but I would also like the Sonos One to play the audio source of the movie instead of (or together with) the tv speakers. Is it possible?

Power cable or truly wireless?

I've been a loyal customer so long that I'm still using the 100 controllers (over 10 years). Sonos has rolled out a whole lot of very impressive products during that time. That said, the one glaring omission are outdoor speakers (with the built in amplifier to tie into your Sonos network). It would seem to be a very easy solution, and I'm still baffled that there have been no products launched for those of us who like to have music outside! John

I'm curious if I can use my Traktor S2 dj turntables with my Play5. Have tried the line in, compressed, uncompressed, but I'm having the delay issues. Will a ZP90 or ZP120 remedy the issue? I understand Sonos's streaming capabilities are great, but I'm looking for something to distribute sources coming out of my Onkyo TX-NR515. Effectively, I am wondering is, will the Sonos Connect and a Play:3 speaker allow me to broadcast the Onkyo's sources to the Play:3? I know I can go Bridge -> Onkyo, but I (think) I want to go Onkyo -> Connect -> Play:3 and hear whatever I have the Onkyo providing (TV, CD's, etc...). If it can do that, do I also need a Bridge as well, or does the Connect have all the Bridge functionality in it? Thanks in advance

Moving to another apartment and selling my old stereo equipment I now have spare 2 x play 1 and 1 x play 5 on hands that were before used for different rooms. Due to convenience factor I would like to move one of these to my main listening area but i still question which way to go. Either i add another Play 5 or purchase a Sub to go with Play 1s. Having small kids my listening volume is normally quite low. Reading this forum some suggest that the sound from play 5s would give me fuller sound but bass from the Sub would be much better, while others seem to think play 1s do sound better on their own when Sub comes into the picture. I understand the decision would always be subjective but would still like to hear some advice. Thanks Tomaz

Hi guys, I bought a Play 5 after an audiophile friend of mine advised it to me. I've been working around it for almost two months to make it work normally. Here are a few issues I'm having so you could help me on that. 1. Cannot configure wifi on it. Here's what I tried: - Switching my router dedicated to Sonos from 5 ghz to 2.4 ghz - Tried on two iPads, one iPhone, one Android smartphone and a Macbook. In any of these cases he recognizes my network. - With an Ethernet cable it works but the most weird is that even in the Macbook with the SONOS wifi selected, sound never switches to the speaker and remains on the internal speakers. 2. No way to add my internal Mac music (iTunes) to the Sonos library. Always says my music folder is not available or it cannot find my Mac. Since I have a Bluetooth turntable, the only way I am able to make it work is using a Bluetooth adapter from Audio Engine, but once again, it's not controllable through the Sonos Controller App. And after

After some time of using the speakers (about 2 hours) they just now started randomly changing the volume (especially making the music louder) and I couldn’t get it under control. Even when changing back to zero/mute they went back up into infinity. No but seriously, there is no one else in the WiFi and I was using the Amazon Echo Dot to start the music, switched it once from the Spotify app and didn’t do anything until it suddenly started changing the volume. I‘m on an iPhone X with iOS 11.1.2, an active Spotify Account and using Play:1s and a Playbar. Also had the problem before (not just since the iPhone X or iOS 11). I have a gen 1 Play 5 speaker that has two blown speakers. The problematic speakers are the two mid range drivers that produce a decent amount of sound. As most of you know, finding replacement speakers is impossible and even buying another gen 1 Play 5 wouldn't be cost effective to replace these two speakers. I've been looking and I'm curious if the speakers inside the Play 3 are the same that's used in the Play 5. After looking at the tear down for both speakers, it appears as if they could be the same drivers after all. Does anyone know if I would have any luck using some Play 3 speakers to replace the speakers in my gen 1 Play 5?

Hi. My wife gives training, and this involves playing video files on Powerpoint Presentations. Her MacBook's internal speakers aren't loud enough, so she wants to connect the laptop to a Sonos Play:5 (using a wire) in order to use that as a speaker. We did a test at home yesterday, and then went fine. However, when she took the laptop and speaker out of the house, it didn't work - perhaps because she didn't have the Bridge or a WiFi connection? Could anyone please tell me if she is able to use a Sonos 5 as a speaker without the Bridge and WiFi, and, if so, how to do this? I'm not very technical so please keep it simple! Thanks a lot.

I have invested in sonos over the last couple of years and have been really happy with the products - but i'm disappointed that Sonos haven't produced a rechargeable speaker that can be used Outdoors in the garden. Any idea if and when this may happen in the future???

Intrigued by the new Sonos One (and getting a full surround system) but wondering how they work as both a dual Alexa speaker AND as rear speakers for a Sonos 5.1 system. Is this possible, and if it is, how seamless is the experience when asking for Alexa while watching TV?

Let me start by saying I'm old enough to remember a time before internet, CDs, cassette tapes, or even the MOSFET transistor. In other words, I'm a dinosaur who cut his teeth in vinyl. So I remember a simpler age when the product that came out of the box was all you got. No software issues. Few compatibility issues to complain about. Generally, an AC plug and some RCA and speaker cables were all that was involved. I'm also fortunate enough to have collected some very good hifi equipment over the years including high end stuff from B&W, Krell and McIntosh. Sadly, that equipment sits largely idle today because over the years the pace of my life has become too hectic. I'm just not where my music is often enough to truly enjoy it. I’m sure that I could turn off the white LED on play 1 speakers but can’t remember how I done it and can’t see anywhere in settings to do it. The led is quite bright on the bedroom speakers and I’m having to unplug them at night. This is a bit inconvenient especially when I want to listen to music in the morning. Can anyone remind me where the setting is. Thanks Mark

My son lives in New Zealand and I would like to get him a sonos, will it work there??

As I understand it there’s no way to turn any of the speakers off. They go to “sleep” when no streaming is present. But, why does the status light stay on even when the speaker’s “asleep”. And how can you be sure the speaker’s really “asleep”? Thanks

I just bought another Sonos One to make a stereo pair. I have them less then a foot apart from each other. What is the ideal space that needs to be between them. Also to me I really can’t hear a difference between just one and having two. I might just not do a stereo pair and just put them in separate rooms and group them. Thanks

I work in a warehouse as my job, and as it's a tech shop we use an ex-display Play:3 as the upstairs music driver believe it or not! So, with that nice passive bass radiator and two mid-range and middle tweeter drivers how does it fill the upstairs warehouse? Speaker placement: It's on a shelf next to a cage container, and the area behind it is also fenced off (otherwise you fall downstairs). Basically, the "walls" it's placed next to are acoustically transparent. You could argue it's theoretically placed in the middle of nowhere. No walls to encourage low-range frequencies. Story: I will keep it super short, I love my Sonos, so seeing the Play:3 come off of display for the new Sonos ONE I just plugged it in and rigged it up. My Play 5 just stopped working (no power, no lights), and Technical support said the unit was dead and only offered an out of warranty replacement. I've only had the unit for 2 years and used it lightly (compared to the play 3 that I use daily). Is a 2 year life span standard for the Play 5? I like the Sonos products, but I'm really disappointed at how quickly the unit died and Support's response. For $500, I was expecting it to last a lot longer and am hesitant to get another. Have others had a similar issue? How long have other Play 5s lasted? Should I try to fix it on my own? Thanks for your input!

Looking to potentially use the Sonos system to run a fitness sound system (4 play 5's in one of the studios, 2 in the other). I would need the system to both play music and also allow the instructor to speak through a wireless microphone system at the same time with the music still playing or is that even possible (would have to use a mic and mixer as input). D Does anyone know if this is doable through sonos connect or the sonos amp?
