Whenever the Sonos ARC is receiving an Atmos signal the Atmos logo is shown in the Sonos app. Can you please consider to always show the signal in the Sonos app? E.g. DD 5.1, Stereo 2.0 Now I need to go into my system to look up the source signal which is inconvenient and if you can do it for Atmos sigan you should be able to do it for the others as well, right? For those who don’t like to have it shown you can consider a toggle somewhere to turn off/on showing it.
I have a Play 1 and a Play 5. Some days after Uverse did a software upgrade, I lost WiFi connectivity to the Play 1. A day later, Uverse did another software update and I lost connectivity to the Play 5. Both work when connected via Ethernet cable. When I pull up the desktop app, I get a ‘cannot find Sonos’ message. I was on the phone for over two hours with tech support, and the problem could not be solved. I deleted the Sonos 2 app and reinstalled Sonos 1, but that didn’t make any difference either. Almost certainly, the problem has to do with Sonos WiFi communication with the Uverse router. PW and router info are all correct in the app, which I checked and re-entered while hard wired. Anybody have any suggestions?
It has been almost 2 weeks since I got the new Arc, Gen 3 sub and 2 Sl set. It has been a long headache. Here are my problems. The sound coming from this supposedly high end speakers is so tinny and squeaky (or metallic or low bass). No matter which old iphone/ipad I use to trueplay, the end result is a sound barely better than that coming from my TV set. The volume coming from the Arc surround set is so low I can barely hear dialogues. Of course, if I blast the speaker level all the way up to 39 or 40, I can hear it, but this is not an ideal situation. Interestingly, the volume increases suddenly whenever a commercial is on. The sound level is not constant. I am not sure if Sonos is doing anything to address these issues. Their bass update did not correct my problems. Man, I was so eager to get the Arc and now I feel cheated. It looks like Sonos used me and several others to beta test an unfinished product.
Three years ago I initiated a thread called, “Sonos support for Hi Res Audio” and was entertained then by some of the rationalizations and, arguably, programmed responses as to why Sonos did not support Hi Res Audio. Today, I read from Sonos that in June of 2020, “Sonos S2 will enable higher resolution audio technologies for music and home theater.” WHAT? Did Sonos cave to the marketing pressures? Or is it more likely that they were controlling the narrative 3 years ago to buy time until their HW and SW Platforms were ready to roll out Hi Res Audio? I suspect this is the real story AND applaud Sonos for managing their customers until they were ready for a major platform release as these things take quite awhile (about 3-4 years) to develop, integrate and test. As I wrote then, to the astonishment and backlash from some in that forum, there were people (one called me a Unicorn) who could discern the difference in digitized formats. Perhaps, three years ago there were m
Hi, as the move came out pretty pricey I have built one by myself: It runs very well - I am having problems with the oute power down of powerbanks. The speaker uses to less energy when booting up. Kickstarting it with the power cord helps. I will get one from Mi later today with a low power mode to fix the problem. Here is my how-to: http://tiefenthaler.name/symfonisk/en
I got my Arc yesterday. And i have it setup with a pair of Sonos ones. I had been using a playbar for the last 6 months or so. The Arc sounds good. But i honestly don’t know if it’s better than the playbar. I mean the features are better. But in terms or sound i think I enjoy the playbar better especially for music. I;m not a sound expert...just what i;ve noticed in the first day that I’ve had it.
My Sonos system is integrated through Savant. It works very well with S1. Now before I update my Sonos devices to S2 (all of them are eligible to update) I was wondering if somebody with a similar integration setup updated to S2 and what was the outcome? I am wondering if it can mess up the integration between the Sonos and Savant systems. All the previous Sonos firmware updates went smoothly as far as my Savant integration is concerned. But this S2 update seems to be a bigger leap. Thank you.
How do you interpret serial numbers on a Connect to see if will be upgradable to S2, also S15 has no serial number on bottom?
I read a lot of reviews and watched quite a few comparisons online before I purchased a Move. I’ve had it about 10 days now and REALLY want to love this speaker as much as my others but have been slightly underwhelmed.... I mean it’s a nice speaker and all, but I was hoping to be as impressed as I have been with all my other Sonos speakers (Beam for TV, pair of Ones w Sub in LR, One in Kitchen, One SL in Bathroom and One SL in Bedroom). Some of the online reviews I read said that the Move is more powerful than the One (a reviewer claimed it’s “like 1.5 Ones” and others had similar sentiments), but frankly I can hardly tell any difference whatsoever between a One and the Move when I put them side-by-side (tested by toggling back and forth, muting one and then the other with different types of music). The Move may have slightly more bass, but if anything a One actually sounds a little more crisp to my ear, and the volume difference when the two are at the same point on the slider is
I have a solution. The HDMI cable that comes with Beam does not work. Use high speed quality HDMI cable and all your connection issues will be over. I am shocked that Sonos is supplying sub par equipment with Beam. Extremely frustrating and 2 days of my life wasted.
I have a home theatre set up with a Playbase and two Ones as rear surounds. I always have to go to “About My System” tab to check if the system was indeed playing Dolby Digital 5.1. With the release of the new Arc and Sonos S2 app. I can see the “TV Now Playing” screen will now display “Dolby Atmos” if the Arc is playing Dolby Atmos, which is brilliant. I think that is both a logical and convienient place to display the audio format that is being played. My question is: Why only display Dolby Atmos? I think it will make a lot of sense if it can display all audio format that is being played: Stereo/Dolby Digital 5.1/Dolby Atmos etc. This will benefit all Sonos home theatre owners, beam/playbar/playbase and Arc included.
I will start this thread with a few caveats: First, this thread is not for rants. There are plenty here for those, and there is no bar on opening new ones. Second, the thread is directed for the subset of users that have a large investment in legacy products, and are content to see their Sonos systems as music systems that offer stable streamed music from either a NAS or from the net, and have no expectation of more bells and whistles - just that things continue to work as they are working today. I happen to be in this boat as well, as someone that has three out of six zones running very well on legacy products that I simply cannot afford to jettison until the hardware dies. Third, this thread is based on facts, some of which have been coming to light only over the last 48 or so hours. It is therefore incomplete to an extent, and may even be wrong in places. Feel free therefore to clarify/correct/add as necessary - and I specifically invite @Ryan S to do so. But, no rants please - the
Hi. I have the Oppo 203 and just received Arc. Due to DTS issues I previously had a 2x1 Toslink Audio Switch that I could toggle to play DTS movies in Dolby 5.1 from the Oppo. Other than using the Optical adaptor and manually swapping the HDMI cable everytime I watch a movie in DTS any other suggestions on settings on the Oppo player that will limit output from HDMI cable to Dolby 5.1.....there's no obvious menu selection on the HDMI output settings. TIA
Had my fingers crossed that with the new features and usability updates promised with the new Sonos S2 app that one of those features would finally be an Apple Watch controller. With our outdoor speakers, having the ability to control at least the most basic of functions such as volume, play, pause and skip are at the very top of my list. I can wear my watch in a pool or hot tub but not my phone. Now that S2 has finally arrived, and the only new “feature” I see is Groups, I’m rather disappointed. I am still hopeful, however, that Sonos hears this plea a native Apple Watch app in the near future. Previously I was able to use an “okay” 3rd party app for control on the Apple Watch but now, with S2, I don’t even have that option presently.
Just wondering are people running Loudness on or off? I find the sound a bit fuller with it on, but it can be a bit boomy at certain frequencies. Also, with it off, some of the surround effectsseems to be lost.
I have set up my Sonos system, 2 paired play 1s and 1 Sonos One, with a 4 G Router. Everything works as it used to on the telephone wire router except Amazon Music. I have deleted and re-installed Amazon Music but the result is the same. e.g. I can search for an artist, display albums etc. But can’t display the contents or play individual songs. Other music providers like TuneIn are working. how do I get Amazon music to set up and play on a 4g router
There’s been a lot of confusion on this forum (and others) about Atmos compatibility for the Sonos Arc with non-eARC TVs, especially where the Apple TV is concerned. I have a 2018 Vizio E-Series and after reading entirely too much information on the subject, I still have absolutely no idea if I’ll be able to get Atmos sound from my Apple TV 4K through the Sonos Arc. Seems like a 50/50 chance at best. I’ve just pre-ordered an Arc and should receive it by the end of the week. I’ll test Atmos compatibility through my E70-F3 via both Apple TV 4K and the built-in apps. In hopes that it will help other E-Series owners, I’ll post my findings here. And if I’m able to get Atmos one way but not another (I’m assuming that if anything works, it will be the built-in apps), I’ll post my (extremely subjective) thoughts on Atmos vs. Dolby Digital Plus sound quality For what it’s worth, if anyone has any questions or anything they’d like to know, just ask - I’m happy to test as much possible to help
I just set mine up a couple hours ago. My current setup: Play5: Kitchen Play3: Living Room Play3: Office Play3: Basement 2 x Play3 Left & Right Pair: Master Bedroom Sonos Move - for deck time Expectations: I was HOPING this speaker would come close to the Play3 given the price. (I've never heard what a Play1 sounds like). I didn't think it would come close to a Play3 based on listening to the Youtubers trying to give sound comparisons through my own crappy computer speakers. Initial Reaction: Wow! These actually sound BETTER than my Play3's. I know audio is very subjective but I think I like the Move better than my Play3's. The "power" and "clarity" seem to be better on the Move than compared to my Play3's. But my Play3's seem to have a bit more "depth" to the audio. Hope that makes sense. When comparing to my Play5, I think the Move is closer to the Play5 than it is to the Play3 in my honest opinion. The Play5 does have more power, more clarity and more depth than the Mo
I’ve also sent these suggestions to Sonos but wondering what others are wishing for with the big S2 update. I’ve read Sonos’ S2 press release and what few new features mentioned in the press release sound great I think some of my suggestions could make S2 the gold standard OS for streaming music. With this in mind most of my suggestions are some of the best features of the Tidal, Quboz, Deezer and Roon native OS apps. Indicate streaming type of album and song playing no matter which music service you’re using inside the S2 controller….HiFi, MQA, CD, HD, Hi-Res etc Speaking of HiRes audio playback. it will be interesting if Sonos through the S2 update can push current Sonos products (speakers, Port and Amp) to actually play MQA music files from Tidal or Dolby Atmos for surround sound set-ups. Provide album credits, liner notes, album reviews and artist bio. Tidal and Roon does a wonderful job with this feature. Currently in Sonos S1 if you click “More” “Album Info” it takes you to see
I took a stab at finding an adequate solution for hooking up my new Sonos Port to my Crown D-75A amplifier… it turns out it was easy, not finding help from any provided inbox instructions from Sonos, so I though I would share on the community forum. https://www.nilesaudio.com/product/voltage-triggered-ac-power-strip-FG00242 This $200 product was on eBay used for $9… The 3.5mm cable cost me more than the relay box at Best Buy… I just had to strip one end to the IN terminal and plug the 3.5mm into the Port. I leave my amp switch on, and then play my device (Sonos App, Airplay2, etc.), it activates my amp and I listen… And the after about a minute of dead air from pause or shut off, my amps power turns off. Now I don’t waste power or have to get up and actually remember to turn off my amp… Fear not.
Glad to see the new sub-forum. My Sonos speakers are an integral part of my Smart Home, which has been built around SmartThings (and webCore) but also utilizes IFTTT, Alexa, and Google Assistant. Just for those considering the possibilities, I'll share a few examples of things I've done. It would be interesting to see ideas and suggestions from other community members on the things they are doing with theirs. Nice link here summarising the limitations of Atmos via HDMI-ARC connection https://community.cedia.net/blogs/david-meyer/2018/06/25/dolby-atmos-over-hdmi-arc while E-AC-3 can support up to 15.1 channels of audio, it's well beyond the HDMI ARC spec. Even getting 7.1 channels to pass is a stretch, so even if the stream contains object metadata, it will lack the resolution and height speakers. This seems to clarify what my ears have been telling me over the past few days, compressed Atmos in a DD+ stream just sounds too overly processed and is lacking clarity.
I have a living room that I have had to break into two rooms. Room 1 - Playbar, 2x Play 1’s for TV Room 2 - Sonos amp with wired speakers for music I also have a Sonos sub which I want to be able to connect to both rooms. When playing TV I don’t use the amp and wired speakers. Then when listening to music I want the amp and sub only, I don’t want my music being played with Playbar and 1’s. Sub is not moving, it stays in same spot in the room. I just need to be able to swap the sub between the rooms. I was hoping the new software was going to deal with this but NO. I know I’m not the only one with this setup problem. Please Help
I've been using the new AMP since it came out. I also tried out the Beam for a short time and thought it was good for what it is. I'm music first as far as what I care about the most and I was hoping to have the AMP do double duty. I'm using the AMP with Revel Concerta 2 speakers which are $900 and highly rated plus Sonos Sub and One SL rears. It's been great for music and for home theater and the phantom center channel is actually pretty decent. My only source for everything is 4K Apple TV connected to a 55 inch Sony X930E. For music to get two channel sound I had to switch the Apple tv to stereo and turn off the Sonos rears. The ARC made me curious so I ordered it and received it today. Setup and connecting the sub and rears was very smooth. When I tried to do Trueplay with my iPad it said there was a network issue. After restarting everything, plus some cussing, I decided to try my iPhone to Trueplay and that worked right away. Otherwise super smooth and easy setup. The ARC is rea
Hopefully this may help some with questions, just some of my impressions. Setup: Sonos Arc with Sonos Sub, and 2 play ones 1.) In a larger open room, which is not ideal, the Arc sounds fuller and more clear than a Playbar, which in turn is fuller and more clear than a Beam tested in the same space. Even in an open room, sound is fairly immersive and has plenty of power and punch with the right movie/audio source. 2.) Arc performs much better in a smaller room with more traditional 4 walls, since Atmos has more surfaces to bounce off of. This is also true of the Playbar and Beam, they sound better in a smaller room due to the obvious acoustic benefits vs an open room. 3.) For music, it's better and has a bigger sound stage than the other sound bars, but is noticeably less impressive than a Sonos AMP with a pair of Bowers and Wilkins 685 speakers in terms of soundstage, audio quality, etc. 4. Likewise, for movies - the AMP with the BW speakers in home theatre mode definitel
