As many have discovered many legacy NAS devices do not support anything other than SMB1 out of the box, and are no longer supported by their manufacturers, meaning there are no firmware of software updates. With a little digging (and some Linux knowledge), I was able to upgrade my Netgear Stora (about 12 years old) from SMB1 to SMB2 and thus get it working with the new Sonos environment. I find it surprising that I had to do this, given the large number of legacy NAS devices out there used for years by many happy Sonos customers (until now), even my shiny new Macbook Air, can use SMB1 to connect to such devices. Anyway that’s another issue. You need to have some technical Linux knowledge to do the following, it’s all done via a ssh session to the NAS.Here’s what I did. (Big thanks to the guys at OpenStora for documenting most of this.)Get root access, and enable SSH, as most of these domestic NAS units do not provide a command line interface. How do I connect my Chromebook music library to my Soson 1 app. Had to keep Sonos 1 because of all Sonos 1 speakers I have.
So I recently bought an Arc...now there’s a new version - I don’t THINK it makes sense to try and “upgrade” (try and return and get the new one)I bought an Arc for $899 last month. Is it worth trying to return for the next gen for $100 more?I also want a sub...If I return my Arc for the Ultra, I think I’d go with the 4, but if I keep my current one, is there an advantage to the 4?
FYI No release notes. If you’ve updated is it safe to do so?

HiMy SONOS setup is as follows;1 * Play 1 (not hard wired)1 * One SL (not hard wired)1 * SONOS Boost (hard wired)All running S21 * TP link network routerSONOS App running on IOS and Windows desktopI predominately use my setup to access a “ripped” MP3 music library that sits on windows share on a Windows 2012 server configured with SMB2. The SONOS app has been configured to use this as a music library - all has worked well prior to S2 upgrade. Now when selecting tracks they play erratically - on IOS give a “Content unavailable” / on Windows gives “an access denied” type error. A track that didn’t play one minute will then play if I try again 10 minutes later - all totally inconsistent and no pattern to any of it. Checked and rechecked share / NTFS permissions to Music Library location - all ok. Checked Windows 2012 firewall rules - all ok.After spending 45 minutes on a call with SONOS - they have told me that my setup is not a supported configuration. They class a Windows 2012 server as
As topic. The Android phone app works as expected, e.g.If I search for “A State of Trance” under albums then it displays 1 album (comprising 5 discs) from my library (on my network share) and I can play that whole album. Same for the “Random” album, a Gary Numan tribute album comprising multiple artists. However, in the Windows app, under albums it presents as individual tracks. Using the web app is not an option of course because that doesn’t even support my own libraries at all, only streaming services.
It seems not possible to have new songs just released by 1 music service to have them play all at the same volume level. The excuse because the songs were from original cd’s, MP3’s… is just not holding up anymore. Is Sonos going to solve this problem please? It’s terribly annoying.Thank you
Hi,I am currently considering a Sonos Set (with Arc Ultra, SubG4, and two Era 300s) vs a Sony Theatre Quad with SW5 sub and I am trying to determine the pros and cons. In this thread I’d like to focus on Airplay 2 vs Sonos Multiroom.- Are there any advantages using Sonos for multi room over Airplay enabled speakers/systems of comparable sound quality?Previously I think the advantage was Airplay did not transmit Dolby Atmos, but Apple have said it will be added in Airplay in iOS18 (here’s the press release: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/06/updates-to-the-home-experience-elevate-entertainment-and-bring-more-convenience/)Am curious to hear your thoughts I am very new to Sonos.
Hello fellow members I have a question regarding the Sonos boost. I have been using it for a few years as I decided to add a separate Wi-Fi network to all my Sonos speakers in the house. Since I never had a problem with signal dropouts.Recently I added a pair of ERA 300’s as surround speakers and looking into the system settings in the Sonos app to check if the new ERA’s where connected to the separate Wi-Fi Sonos network I realised that I no longer can see in the settings if the speakers are connected to the Sonos boost by looking at the WM setting. My Sonos boost has been always connected directly to my router using a RJ45 and I am wondering now if Sonos have dropped this device whether or not it is worth still having this connected and if there is any benefit al all?thanks.
I’ve had a Beam and 2 SL1’s connected for about a year with no problems. Recently I added a sub mini and ever since then the tv will shut off automatically about every 30 minutes. No changes were made to tv or Xfinity. No screen savers or auto power savers are enabled on anything (I already checked). I’ve installed new 4K HDMI cables and have tried unplugging everything and plugging it all back in several times, hoping it would reset. It keeps turning off. I love the sound I’m getting, if only it would stay on. What do I do next?
I have recently installed two 75” televisions (side by side) in our Recreation Room and looking to add Beam or Arc soundbar(s) to each television. Is it possible to have two soundbars in the same room? Both soundbars play what each television is playing independently? Both soundbars play what one television (sporting event) is playing while other television is still running (video game for example)? Both soundbars playing music application while both televisions are doing something else (sporting event & video game)?
Sonos is so unreliable. If I'm lucky enough to get a room to play. Isn't change tunes or change rooms. Then it will not switch off or let me adjust the volume. I fed up having to reset every thing to get then to work even then it's lucky if the do work
Hi all, Just looking for some advice with placement for my speakers. Setup consists of:1 x Playbar1 x Sub2 x One The first image shows my basic room setup, it has a corner sofa. The Playbar will be positioned in front of the TV and the sub beside the TV. The main seating position will be at the long part of the sofa (running beside the wall) into the corner.Initially I was going to place my One’s behind the sofa in front of the TV using stands, as per the second image. They would have been at shoulder height. However my wife is not impressed with the idea of having the stands exposed, especially with children in the mix.We were thinking of putting the One’s on the stands at shoulder height behind the sofa along the wall, as per the third image. Would this work? It has the added benefit of not having to worry about hiding the power cables, and they would be out the way of the children a little.Purple in the image are the One’s / sub. Red are table furniture.Your suggestions are very much
I have been a great Sonos fan for 15 years or more, and bought so many of your products. But now I had enough. How can you continue to provide such utterly abysmal software? It just never ends
Ever since I updated the Sonos app, I am experiencing this annoying glitch with it: I click on a station and when I hit “play” I get this error message, “Something wrong. Try again”. This is happening about half the time and I use this app several times a day. My playlists, podcasts, news, sports and more go through one or more of my “rooms”. (I have 11 speakers/devices in my home. Can anyone help?ThanksM Klein
My Music Library no longer plays. The suffix m4a has beeb added to each title and they just scan through when started. I have read all I can online to no avail.
Sonos used to work well, I started using it many years ago but the new app is very slow and I have to call support to get the system up and running. Now I turned off the 2.4GHz network and tried to run sonos on 5GHz. Does not work so system is not working (again) since a week. The ‘wizards’ in the slow S2 app does not help and system can’t be found. I even tried downloading the old S1 app to get that running with the system, but it does not find any of the speakers. I use Android (tried with 2 different phones) and Play 1, Play 3 as well as connect amp.
I have many Sonos products, including ARC, Play 5, One’s and 2 x Play 3’s.Suddenly the Play3’s stopped working, after resets, they appear in App & Computer, and play together, however won’t group with any other product, it just says “Unable to Connect, Please try later.I have factory reset, and got everything else working, The Play 3’s work together, just not grouped with other products. Any advice?
Updates repeatedly fail. Individual speakers require repeated factory resets. Don’t buy SONOS if you want to take it to your vacation home for a few days. Setup is extremely painful and time consuming.
Hi all,We have a Sonos Playbar and recently purchased a new Samsung TV (Samsung UE65DU7100 (2024)).The TV has 3x 2.1 HDMI ports, one of those being eARC, but no optical port. I’ve double checked this with Samsung who have confirmed no optical port exists for this 2024 model TV (we are in the UK). The issue of course being that the Playbar only has an optical connection. Is anyone aware of a decent adapter or technology that exists to somehow be able to use our Playbar as the TV output? I appreciate Sonos don’t sell anything for it, but I can’t figure out whether technology exists elsewhere (Amazon etc) to make this work. Unfortunately we can’t change either piece of technology as both returns periods have expired. Thanks in advance all.
Hardware update this morning. Some but not all EQ related settings changed as far as I can tell. Nothing for the Ace.Anybody have ideas what's addressed this time?
Allowed the Sonos tech to take control of my computer for about an hour or so. He could not get my local library back. I managed to fix it myself after the May update wrecked all access to my library. Then the last update wrecked it again and even the Sonos tech cannot get it back. So my system is now useless. Yet - I don’t see a lot of comments about this…..? Maybe I should try another teck at Sonos?
Can you play Sonos headphones and Sonos speakers simultaneously? If so, which set up is best?
