Sonos seems to be shuffling my Spotify playlists when I use the "Connect to a device" option in Spotify

This is driving me crazy. I’ve got Spotify desktop app open on Win10. I can play an album or playlist fine, in the order I want. Shuffle options are OFF

As soon as I use the Spotify app to “Connect to a device” (in this case a Roam sitting next to the laptop) the queue completely changes and the SHUFFLE option turns on in Spotify. If I disconnect the Roam, the shuffle feature turns back off and the queue reverts back to normal.

What is going on?

To compound matters, the exact same thing happens if I use the iOS version of the Spotify app yo connect to the Sonos Roam. If I choose to play the music on the phone, it reverts back to the normal order.

If I try to launch the playlist from from the desktop Sonos app (ver 16.6  S2  83161210) I just get “the connection to Spotify was lost” error message.  It’s unusable. I’ve tried uninstalling the Spotify service, reinstalling it again too.

If I try to use the Sonos ios app, the same thing.

The banner is likely gone now, it gets removed when the issue is ‘resolved’. It always points to www.status.sonos.com

I’ve just discovered the exact same issue, and it’s very frustrating.

If I start an album or playlist on android or PC, as soon as I connect to my Roam shuffle is turned on. If I turn shuffle off in Spotify, it re-enables after a few seconds. In fact if I then try and play a particular song on the Spotify album or playlist it will choose a different song in the list.

So far I have:

  • Forced a full restart on the Roam and restarted Android phone
  • Checked Sonos is all up to date
  • Tried disabling autoplay in Spotify
  • Tried removing Spotify as a service in the Sonos app (no change so I’ve re-added it)
  • Uninstalled/reinstalled Spotify

And the issue remains.

Note that I have a Sonos Amp 2 in my house as well and this is NOT having the issue. It’s just my Roam.

I have 2x Era100 and I have this same issue with spotify. Every other device is working just fine but when I connect to my Eras the shuffle gets enabled and greyed out so I cant toggle it on or off.

I have tried clear cache/cookies, re-install spotify and sonos app, logged out and in many times.

I use my Sonos speakers and spotify every day and today is the first time this thing happened and cant get it to normal.

Yep, I saw this after clicking send on my post. Have checked just now and the issue is fixed for me.

This is still an issue for me today (7 March 2025 ~ 2 PM MST). Is there any fix?

I would recommend that you call Sonos Support directly to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Right on, thank you so much!

Rebooting my Sonos speakers (unplugging and plugging back in) seems to have resolve the issue for me.

This issue drives me crazy too! I’ve noticed that Spotify Connect seems to force shuffle mode when linking to Sonos. I fixed it by turning off Autoplay in the Sonos app (Settings > System > Your Roam). Also, I made sure shuffle was off in Spotify before connecting. A full reboot of my devices and router helped when it kept happening. Hope this works for you!
