New firmware just out, updating now and will remove / add library to see if anything has been done
It’s like getting a surprise present. Until you unwrap it you don’t know if you really want it.
Might plug my speakers back in tonight and see what happens
Or coal!!

It takes around 30 minutes to reindex my maximum sized library… guess norhing will be different. Anyone who knows what the firmware update is supposed to … do?

That’ll be covered in the copious release notes….
New firmware did not fix the compilation album issue. If there are 20 tracks in your compilation album you get 20 albums with no tracks in any of them.
Re indexed successful despite no indication that re indexing was taking place.
Still hundreds of albums from compilations. Not fixed!

Seriously? Months and months of waiting to get a fix for a pretty basic function? Compilation albums still not displaying or playing as they should. Beyond contemptible. Surely there are sufficient coders on the payroll at Sonos to remedy this elementary failure. I regret paying Sonos a single cent for its product.
I feel like I’m in the movie Deliverance, with Sonos as Bill McKinney and I’m Ned Beatty. Completely powerless.
No fix to the album grouping issues noted here and no further communications from Sonos about progress for a fix? Wow. Unprofessional, to say the least. I’ve been a Sonos customer for 11 years, but this is not giving me confidence in their company.
I have the same issue, very annoying! Please get this fixed!
Yes, it’s infuriating.
As @anorakus mentioned on p.1 of this thread, Folders view provides a workaround (yes, I know we shouldn’t need one) that more or less provides the necessary functionality to play compilation albums.
My theory is that Sonos have been contracted to provide work experience placements for primary school aged wannabe coders, and Sonos has given them this project to cut their teeth on. This must be at least close to the truth, I would expect high school aged amateur coders to do a better job than this FFS. Full disclosure - I’m a software engineer, so I have a clue about producing commercial software. Sonos’ commitment to crappy coding and quality control by randomisation engines is truly breathtaking.
I can't understand why, given the uproar over messing up the user experience for music library users, fixing this isn't a higher priority than it appears to be. It shouldn't take 6 months to get this resolved, but there isn't any indication as to when it'll fixed in the future.
Prioritising other minor issues that make the app visually better aren't much use when the app has been rendered useless to some users. The folder option isn't a 100% workaround.
The reality is that I just don't use the app anymore... And when I come to buy more speakers for the purpose of streaming my library, I'm unlikely to buy Sonos. Empty promises, the software hasn't been updated in months despite all the issues. Bored of it now and already changed my behaviour pattern to avoid using the speaker altogether.

Exactly. Have recommended and installed Sonos for MANY friends during 15 years of use… it’s more than hard to stay loyal.
It has been 5 months and unable to play my music collection on my SONOS system.
Why did SONOS simply not allow users to revert to the previous version? Such a simple answer.
Is it true that SONOS is moving towards becoming solely a music streaming service with a regular subscription charge? Would mean that they can reap in money from everyone who purchased the hardware (and no ability to play own music libraries). It’s hard to think of an alternative answer why they are refusing (yes, refusing - it cannot be that hard) to fix the music library issue.

I gave up and downgraded my old setup to S1. Everything works again. I won’t be getting anything Sonos when I next buy audio stuff.
Sure, it’s a pain, but entirely avoided by browsing by FOLDER. You want to play a compilation album, start it from folder view. Easy as pie.

Thank you - I had no idea the albums could be played through the folder option. It’s not obvious because there are so many layers of subfolders and some albums are incorrectly in compilations (probably due to errors in labelling) but it does look like I can actually play albums this way.
Using folders had been mentioned before, but with the impression that each album had to be manually recreated as a folder.
Why has no-one from SONOS provided this solution through so many months? Admittedly this answer is far from perfect, but it is a temporary solution which means that albums can be found and played.
THANK YOU umiami91
I was so frustrated with Sonos that it did not cross my mind…
And if it’s not my job to think about such a simple work around, I’m sure it is Sonos engineering’s !
These guys must be drowning in the abyss of their Quality Assurance… appalling.
I am not computer illiterate. But when I have look up playing music from folders, the articles I see refer to playing music stored on a phone. My audio folks haven’t mentioned the folder alternative either. At any rate, it’s not my job to figure this out. If there is a work around, why did Cory say it was best to wait for the fix?

If you go to sons/music library on the app, one of the selections is folders. The thing is that we are accepting there is a workaround for all of the screw ups that they have been making. "There is a workaround" is not a way to support a broken product
Didn’t mean to sound like a criticism of the responders. We are all desperate for a solution that fixes the problem. I remain in awe of Sonos’s ability to stonewall their customers. Their declaration of new practices read like a satire. It’s hard to believe that a company of any size would have had management that did not establish quality benchmarks and wouldn’t only release products and updates when they were ready.
It proves sonos have no interest in fixing the problem they introduced to long standing customers
