Question

Google Home won't play anything on my Sonos S1 system

Hi. My Sonos 1 and 5 are connected on the Google Home device list and Sonos is a linked service. Recently I cannot use Google voice commands to start any services on my Sonos devices - it just defaults to playing on the Google device I asked to perform the action. If I go into the Sonos app and play something I can then pause/volume change etc via the Google Home app no problem. Is this a Google or Sonos issue? (I’ve rebooted all my devices/router etc. unlinked/linked everything but the problem still persists)

Did you find what you were looking for?

Hello @Storming123, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing issues targeting your Sonos speakers via voice commands on your Google Home device to initiate music playback.

You can have a look at our Support Article Google Assistant commands not working on Sonos as it includes helpful information and more importantly the below:

If you do not have voice-enabled Sonos speakers

  1. Open the Google Home app for iOS or Android.
  2. From the Devices tab, select one of your listed Sonos products, then select the Settings icon at the top-right.
  3. On the Settings screen, select Unlink Sonos. This will open the Add Devices menu where you can select Sonos, then Unlink account.
  4. After Sonos has been unlinked, set up the Google Assistant again using the Sonos app.
  5. Make sure that any music services that you’ve added in the Google Assistant have also been added to Sonos.
  6. Once completed, try giving Sonos a command using your Google Assistant device.

As you’ve already tried the unlink / re-link Sonos with your Google Home step, I would recommend you to reach out to our Support Team for some live troubleshooting.

They have tools at their disposal to provide you with advise and information specific to your system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.
