How can I use a Sonos Five Stereo Pair with Alexa?  As I have tried to research this question, I have not been able to get a definitive answer of if it is possible.  When attempting in my own environment, I am able to connect 1 Sonos Five.  But if I do a stereo pair, the option is grayed out.

OK - Got it figured out.  Did not want to have to say “Alexa, play music on living room.”   Just wanted to say, Alexa, play music.   After restarting everything I was able to clear this error below.  Then after I did that, I was able to add the Sonos Stereo Pair to an Alexa Group and then was able to select “Always” so that the echo dot just acts like a microphone to the Stereo Pair.  Screen shots below.  Tricky - but finally got it!

See the article below to set up an Alexa device to control a Sonos Five Stereo Pair:

To your next question….

  • “When attempting in my own environment, I am able to connect 1 Sonos Five.  But if I do a stereo pair, the option is grayed out.”

Are you saying you are unable to create a Stereo pair using the Sonos App?

Are you trying to do that within the Alexa app? If so, that’s the wrong way… you just have to set up the stereo pair within the Sonos app as one room and that room will be shown in Alexa app after activating the Sonos skill there. And you need an Alexa device like an Echo or another Alexa ready Sonos Speaker to use voice commands to control the stereo pair room. Remember to call the rooms name at the end of your command.

Hi!  Thanks for your help.  So, just to clarify - here is where I am at:

  1. Set up Stereo Pair with 2 Five’s
  2. Named the Pair “Living Room”
  3. Then, open up Alexa app, navigate to the echo dot that I want to control them with.
  4. The “Living Room” pair shows up, as not an option saying “Incompatible with Living Room Echo Dot”

Suggestions?  Screen shots below.

You can’t. and also have no need to, add the Sonos room as a speaker to the Echo. Just use the Echo for voice control and tell Alexa to play music on „living room“.
