my electrician cut 10” holes for my ceiling speakers.  Is that too big?  I know the recommended cut out is 8.25”

What ceiling speakers are you referring to?

I have not purchased them yet, but they are the round ones, that  Sonos sells now and refers to them as “In-Ceiling Speakers” .

From the FAQ for the Sonos In-Ceiling by Sonance speakers:

https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/ceiling-speaker-pair.html

The Sonos In-Ceiling by Sonance speakers use a cutout hole that is 8 1/4" in diameter. If your existing hole is that size (or smaller) the Sonos speakers will fit but may require a small amount of drywall to be removed (if the hole is smaller than 8 1/4").

10” would be too large.  Looks like there is some patching to do.
