unable to connect pro-ject T1 to sonos one

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hello community,

I have a pro-ject T1, cable RCA , pro-ject phono box mm and the speaker sonos one.
I followed all the steps to set it up.But somehow it seemed like it didn’t connect with the speaker.
I could only hear a low volume from my pro-ject T1. Any ideas how to resolve this ?

thank you,
Chia

The exact same one is here too, sold with its own power supply…

What are you connecting the pre-amp to on the Sonos One speaker? It has no line-in port, are you sure it’s a Sonos One?

If both devices are on the same software (Connects made before 2016 are S1 only) you should be able to choose “line in” on the Sonos One when you play a record,

Ah that makes sense now… er… presumably you have it so the TT RCA line-out goes to the pre-amp (line-in) and it’s line-out goes to the Connect RCA line-in. If the audio is not very loud, then go into the Sonos App ‘Settings/System/[Connect Room Name]’ and try setting the line-in source level higher - set it so that at full volume you do not hear and distortion at/near the full volume level. I would start with source-level 8 and adjust it up/down from there and see if that resolves the issue.

Form the picture, it looks like there is a port labeled “Input DC” which I assume would be where you’re supposed to connect power to your preamp.  I don’t see any power cable for that device, and it surely would need some power to amplify the signal coming off your turntable.

Ken_Griffiths

Yes, I agree with @melvimbe - the pre-amp needs power to work.

Good quality power too, if you don’t want a hum or buzz in the audio.

I’d look for a switch mode supply (not analog) of the proper voltage and with more milliamps of output than you need.

There is that one silver/gold cable that looks like a speaker cable, and I can’t tell what it’s connected to, if anything.  That could be the power cable?  I don’t know.

Ken_Griffiths

The pre-amp should come with the DC power supply according to this Amazon link (albeit casing is slightly different, it is a Pro-ject Phono Box MM):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Ject-Phono-Box-MM-Preamp/dp/B007N6USS8

It’s probably hidden away beneath a cardboard partition in the packaging, perhaps?

That’s the turntable ground.

Hey Guys… @buzz @Stanley_4 @Ken_Griffiths @melvimbe @106rallye

Are you convinced this is a legitimate OP. It’s been three (3) hours since a response and it was identified three (3) hours ago by @melvimbe that a power supply was needed and yet still no response from the OP. Furthermore the OP lists in her profile the following:

  • Country Paris
  • City France

Don’t get me started on that...😂

Any who….carry on fearless community members. You’re doing a great job. Not that you require my approval 😂

Hello everyone,

thank you for all your advices.

i’ll try it again tomorrow.

sorry I got back to you guys so late.

i have a full time job and after my full time job ,I have a part time job this is the reason why..

Thanks a lot. I’m appreciated🙏

Ken_Griffiths

Even if the OP had not replied @AjTrek1, my own thoughts are, it doesn’t really matter that much anyway, as this thread might one day assist some other users who may frequent these pages, with the same/similar issue.

I do have far more of an issue with the Sonos community ‘search facility’, as it’s still rather difficult to (re)search a good many things on the forum here and to find helpful information. If it wasn’t for Google search I doubt I would ever find some of the past-answers to a good many things myself.

Both the forum search and the support search are poor. Using the “site:” option with a search engine is usually faster and gets better results.

Community: site:en.community.sonos.com pro-ject t1

Support: site:support.sonos.com pro-ject t1

hello everyone ,

it’s me again, how are you doing?

i did buy a dc input for my phono recently, however..
the turntable is connected. but the result in no sound.

i could only hear thin volume from the turntable event though i’ve ajusted  the setting in the app.

any lead could give me advices please? 😭

Ken_Griffiths

The wiring in your images (as far as can be seen) looks correct.

What is the line-in ‘source level’ setting in the ‘Connect’ room settings in the App? If it’s set low, at level 2 - try setting it higher (level 8 or higher) and ensure the output volume is set to 50%, or higher, too.

Then go onto select the line-in icon in the Music Services Tab to play the TT audio on your chosen Sonos device/group and ensure the volume-level for that device/group is not set low, or muted and see if that gets things working for you.

Make sure the pre-amp is working aswell - are there any signs that device is receiving power, any visible LED light etc?

Just to confirm, your cartridge is an MM Moving Magnet and not a MC Moving Coil as the preamp you have is for MM only from what I can see.

You could check to see if it has an MM / MC switch though.

Low and poorly equalized sound is a common issue when mixing MC cartridges and MM preamps.
