Connect Sonos play 1 and play 3 to my TV (Philip and/or Samsung the Frame)

Hi all! Hope to get some guidance.

In essence, I've inherited one Sonos Play 1 speaker and two Play 3. I'd like to connect them to work as speakers for my TVs, which is one Philips from 2019 and a Samsung the Frame from 2023.

Is it possible to connect the speakers directly to the TVs? As I've tried to read up on this, it seems like I need a soundbar to go with the speakers, but I'm not sure.. From what I understand as well, the Frame does not have the right "line out" which is needed to connect via cable.

All advice here is highly appriciated!

Yes, a soundbar is needed. Check the input details on Sonos’ products web pages for which have Optical or HDMI.  But you need to watch for compatibility too with your inherited speakers, which are quite old now.

In the guide it states that you could use two Play:3s for home theater. Is that in combo with a soundbar, or could it potentially work only with the speakers?

Sonos’ Ray soundbar has optical input; Beam and Arc Ultra have HDMI. Not all soundbars will accept Play:3’s as surrounds - the newest Arc Ultra, for example. That was the compatibility checking I meant. It’s on Sonos’s product pages with lots of useful info in the FAQ’s.

You need a front channels soundbar to drive the surrounds.
