Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.
Home Screen
The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.
The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.
100+ streaming services, one Home screen
The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.
Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs —the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.
Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.
The new Web App
The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

**Class Action Lawsuit** We all deserve to recoup all hardware investment
If ever a situation called for a class action lawsuit, this is it:
Company sells customers expensive, multi-unit hardware systems
Tethers customers to a software ecosystem to use them effectively
Dramatically changes software into an auto-update environment
Unsuspecting customers lose access to extensive, core media sources and features that significantly diminish the value of their expensive hardware and/or make it untenable for usage they had every reason to believe they would continue to have
Customers wishing to continue meeting these essential needs forced to sell Company hardware that they had no intention of doing at a loss and buy competitor hardware.
Pattern of behavior by Company indicates that choices made to remove said functionality were part of an intentional, plan to damage the product experience of many users in favor of others.
Seriously. This would be like selling someone a car and then updating the operating system so that the steering wheels was controlled by AI instead of manual because there’s more profit there for the company.
Even if they resolve this issue with their awful software release, how much in damages are deserved for every customer for heir lost time and undue harm?
The store value of my hardware suite, which I had no intention of replacing is probably $7,000 - $8,000. How much do others have invested who believe they need to leave SONOS?
I am not someone who can start a class action lawsuit, but I’m sure there are people here who can, and I’d be at the front of the line to join it and recoup my losses. If you feel similarly, then bump up this thread so that SONOS is held accountable
I have now tried to revert to S1 with my 12 speakers. I can gladly sell my Roam and get a Move instead.
I read in the compatibility sheet that the Play One SL was compatible with S1 so I started the process to revert it to S1 by making a factory reset on the device. I then tried to use the revert to S1 feature in the app, I still have the old S2 app. No matter what I did this step in the process could not find it.
I then read more carefully, an updated One SL can not be downgraded to S1.
If I try to add it back to S2 I can’t because Sonos is forcing me to use the most current version.
I am strongly considering moving to something else, I am sure Sonos will add in features again but I do not want the Sonos Apps to control my local devices over internet. What happends If I start a playlist that sits locally on my SMB server and Internet goes down, I can’t even stop playback.
Please report good alternatives to Sonos.

Do not follow Sonos instructions for S1 upgrade (they call it downgrade but it’s actually an upgrade) as they are not correct. You have to use the S2 16.1 version of the app to upgrade back to S1.
Is it just me, or can you NOT rearrange or add songs to an already existing queue on this new update? If so, how? If not… SONOS! FIX. THIS. IMMEDIATELY.!
Latest update for iPad now has alarms, but no sleep feature that I can find.
I just did a system update (using the update fintion in the new app itself) on my iPhone but still no Alarm function to be found… how did you manage?
Same problem here. The new system is buggy AF. But Double check your firmware is updated as well. You can try force quite the app a few times. Won’t come back for me but good luck to you
Hi Bumper, see the thread below in case you haven’t yet :
Where the f is the alarm button?
Where the f is the alarm button?
Settings / Manage / Alarms
I can’t see the Alarms under settings / manage even though I have updated the system today (iPhone)….
I found that I had to remove the app and then reinstall from the App Store. Once I did that it was easy to find
Thanks, this helped! (The names of te different alarm are missing now but well.,, Sonos 2024… ). It would have been nice to have the infomation you gave me given by Sonos itself 😉

Your new app is rubbish. It takes ages to lead, It immediately says it can not find any of my devices and it is not user-friendly at all. Whoever created this need needs a good telling off. I hate you and you made such a great system a total pain to work with. Wish I can get the old app back
For Android, hi-fi cast music player https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.findhdmusic.app.upnpcast does the job! ... and even better!
Oh great, now I'm starting to see how this works. I can no longer access any of my local music and I also only have one family shared Spotify account. My wife is currently using it through her phone, so I cannot listen to anything on Spotify.
Perhaps what someone else is doing is creating a forced move to get people to have to buy additional Spotify accounts and then turning around and creating revenue by showing how many increases they are creating for Spotify or other streamers.
Just a thought…
PLEASE GIVE US BACK ACCESS TO OUR LOCAL MUSIC LIBRARIES, SONOS!!!!!

The local library access is still there by the way - the new App just no longer supports the insecure SMBv1 or http protocols. A library now needs to be shared using SMB v2 or higher.
My NAS uses SMB v2/3 and so I see the local library.
Some users with PC’s are opting to setup SMB v2+ shared libraries using the step-by-step instructions mentioned here:

I am using the S2 version but since I don’t have the latest version I can’t do anything, Sonos is forcing me to update to the latest S2 version to reverse to S1 or include any new speakers.
What a shitshow this is currently. If you haven’t updated to the latest app yet and you decide to revert back to S1:
To downgrade to S1 you need to factory reset your devices.
To downgrade them to S1 you need to update to latest version 18
When updated to version 18 it has no feature of backing to S1.
...
Seriously. This would be like selling someone a car and then updating the operating system so that the steering wheels was controlled by AI instead of manual because there’s more profit there for the company.
...
Or more like: selling a family touring car and then in the hidden change it to be a one-seated car with a capacity to go only around the corner, having a service interval of 1 hour or 1 mile, whatever comes first. Air condition, parking assistant, etc., all ripped out in the night by the car seller - leaving that one seat in a close to useless car.
What a shitshow this is currently. If you haven’t updated to the latest app yet and you decide to revert back to S1:
To downgrade to S1 you need to factory reset your devices.

They are forcing every device that can support it to upgrade to the new app. In a way I'm glad they released the new app before the new devices because sales of those new devices will now suffer as a result.
The execs will start asking questions when the sales aren't stellar and then look at the app store reviews.
There is no way they can bring the new app up to feature parity with the old app quick enough and squash the bugs that plague it to encourage sales.
I like the ability to control remote systems with the new web app - but once I join a system (I have 3), there doesn’t seem to be a way to switch to another system without logging out and then back in again, which is a 6-click process with three slow page loads. Is there an easier way to do this? It would be nice to have a straightforward pull-down menu to switch between systems seeing as remote control is one of the new features...
What a shitshow this is currently. If you haven’t updated to the latest app yet and you decide to revert back to S1:

Yeah it was a pain in the @ss but well worth it for me. Setting up my favorites in my playlist was the longest part of it.
Not sure what phone OS you are on but on Android it is still possible to go back to S1. 16.1 is the last version of the Sonos S2 Android app that you can download from APKmirror and there is no 18 version. Perhaps you mean 80.0? If you have Android and Sonos S2 80.0 installed you can uninstall that and side load S2 16.1
Sonos has said that down the road they will be adding S1 downgrading support to the new app but does anyone really trust them on anything they say anymore?
This post has everything you need in it with screenshots I just took this morning:
Also feel free to PM me with any questions and I will try my best to answer them. Just remember that I am not a Sonos support tech in real life but I played one on TV! 🤣😜
My playbar is now totally bricked.
The iPhone 14 Pro won’t support the new app. It tells you to connect to WiFi even though it is connected. The app displays the WiFi SSID so it is clearly connected. Others have also reported this. So, you can’t even use the new app at all if you have an iPhone 14. (To be complete, it did work when the app upgraded, but not after it was uninstalled and reinstalled.)
The ability to downgrade the Playbar firmware to S1 has been removed. So, it is not an option to use the S1 software.
The S2 previous version on my Android tablet sees the Playbar and offers to install it, but aborts once I elect not to upgrade the app itself.
The app asks me to log out and let the real owner log in!
One person cannot generate such frustration. It takes a team.
This app is unusable. Sonos has to be embarrassed about such a poorly constructed app. There is no way they even tested this. Normally you would send beta versions to users to test. Didnt happen. You can no longer do Trueplay as it locks up the app. When using Amazon music it doesnt play lists or cant change a song. When you play a single song there is no way to back out to do anything else on the app. You have to close the app and open it again to do anything. This is crazy. My speakers are now useless. Thanks
Please, please, please SONOS sort out this app update - it's totally FUBAR!! I've always said that a company should be judged on how it resolves its issues so get to it - and pronto Tonto!! Give us back the old system until the new one has been thoroughly tested. Just wasted several hours having to set the system up again and still can't get the app to work properly. Stressed is an under statement!! Expected better from Sonos!! .......Where's the gin?

Hello all, since I installed the new app, the line-in imput I need to play vinyl records is not recognized anymore. Can’t play vinyls. Also, I can’t reconnect my Sonos radio, I get an error message which say that I should check my internet connection and retry later. Did it, didn’t help. Last but not least, from the new app, I can’t connect to my Sonos Stereo pair of two FIVE units. When I try to select that option I get an error message stating that there is a connection issue. When doing the same directly from another app such as Apple Music, I can connect to that pair without any problems. Anyone experiencing similar issues? Thanks 🙏🏻 a lot.
I was hoping to get some help to resolve the issues I mentioned, instead of getting this new app promo text a couple of times. I’ll be thankful for any support so that I can start enjoying my vinyl records again using the Sonos app as I did until now with the previous versions. Thanks.
non sequitur - I was having issues with dropping wireless connection on my iphone when trying to use upgrade sonos app. May be unrelated, but changed network security mode from “WPA2/WPA Mixed Personal” to straight “WPA Personal” on my lynksys. The waters parted.
Is it just me, or can you NOT rearrange or add songs to an already existing queue on this new update? If so, how? If not… SONOS! FIX. THIS. IMMEDIATELY.!
The new all doesn’t recognize the line in anymore, can’t play my vinyls. Can’t reconnect the Sonos radio feature, can’t connect to my stereo FIVE speaker pair. Quite a challenge that new app version … 😢
¾ times I try to use the new Sonos App I get an error message and nothing plays! PLEASE bring back the old app or fix this soon. My Sonos system is now useless...
Same here. Dreadful.
Oh gosh I AM SOOOOOO FED UP WITH SONOS; only a few hours after I managed to have the alarm back (had of course to delete and reinstall the app, NOT something Sonos cared to inform us about) and now of course I cannot play anything from my own music library (not it is not on NAS, it is on an external drive connected to a laptop with Windowes 11) - and probaly all alarms linked to that library as I am sure it will be confirmed tomorrow morning…
SOOOOOO FED UP WITH SONOS. My music library does still appear as a source and all artists and albums are listed but nothing can be played. The fantastic beautiful wonderful amazing new Sonos app doesn't even react; the app on the laptop at least informs me that “access to //DESKTOP-[my desktop ref number]/iTunes denied” at each attempt at playing a track from the music library. Of course the usual way of indicating to Sonos where to locate the library is nowhere to be found on the phone app and on the laptop app it is no longer functional (link to Music Libray Settings is greyed and nin clickable) .
I can't take this anymore…. spending hours each day since the #5&8^^ app of yours showed up, endlessly looking for solutions, then getting yet another problem IF by any chance / as a miracle a solution is found . Sonos people: I have a life, you know? And it does not consist of solving problems YOU have created
This update was the last straw for me. Years and years of using Sonos with thousands invested all while putting up with customer-hostile software updates. I’ve just purchased my first BluOS device and will be outfitting our cabin with that system.
Just curious since I am on and will stay on S1; for streaming I use the Spotify native app anyway so it does not matter to me what's in this one, but is this upgrade an effort to keep up the UI experience with the joneses or is it to take it to be an experience that no streaming service offers today?
No it is part of a continuing set of dark-pattern updates meant to steer you into monthly payments and planned obsolescence, without providing any benefits in return.
