Extraordinary sound meets elegant design

Eleven high-performance drivers, including custom elliptical woofers and precisely angled side tweeters, produce vivid detail and impressive bass for home cinema and music streaming. Arc's upward-firing drivers create a multi-dimensional soundstage that moves around you, rendering every whisper and explosion with dramatic clarity, detail, and depth.

With its elongated shape, soft profile, and seamless façade, Arc discreetly mounts to the wall or sits beneath the TV without pulling focus. When mounted, a magnetic sensor detects the orientation and smartly adjusts the EQ to temper bass resonance.

Arc’s sound was specially tuned with the help of Oscar-winning sound engineers to emphasize the human voice so you can always follow the story. The advanced processing creates five phased-array channels that masterfully deliver sound to your ears from all directions at the exact right moment. Use enhanced Trueplay tuning technology to optimize the sound for the unique acoustics of your room, even calibrating the height channels for precise localization.

You can also make a surround sound setup with a pair of our surround capable Sonos speakers, such as a pair of Sonos Ones, or amplify it all with a Sub for an extraordinary surround experience.

Some more details on Sonos Arc:

  • Simple to set-up. Plug Arc into power and then connect it to your TV using the HDMI-ARC cord. Bring your phone up to Arc to automatically pair and securely transfer WiFi credentials using near-field communication (NFC).

  • HDMI eARC. Increased bandwidth supports high-quality audio and has lip-sync compensation built in.

  • Dolby Atmos. Play Atmos and Atmos-encoded audio to play from your collection and favorite services through your TV’s HDMI ARC or eARC connection.

  • Ambient light sensor. Arc detects how bright the room is and automatically adjusts the brightness of the LEDs to be visible but not distracting.

  • Automatic remote sync. Arc connects to your TV's HDMI eARC port with a single cable and automatically syncs with your remote.

  • Control your way. Control Sonos Arc with your voice, the Sonos app, your existing TV remote, your favorite music service’s app, or AirPlay 2. Capacitive touch controls for play, pause, skip tracks, adjust the volume, and group rooms just by tapping or swiping the top of the soundbar. LED indicates status, mute status and voice feedback.

  • Smart voice recognition. A four far-field microphone array used for advanced beamforming and multichannel echo cancellation makes sure you’re heard, even when the music is blasting, even when playing in immersive surround sound. For privacy, turn the microphone off with a tap. The LED light is hardwired and will always indicate if the microphones are enabled or if your voice assistant of choice isn't listening.

  • Optimized for your listening. From within the Sonos App, tap Speech Enhancement so you never miss a word, or Night Sound to amplify quiet noises and reduce loud ones so you can enjoy late night TV without waking the entire house.

  • Tune with Trueplay. Trueplay puts the speaker-tuning capability of the pros in the palm of your hands, adapting and optimising the sound of the speaker to the unique acoustics of the room. iOS device required.

  • Low profile and compact size. The dimensions are 3.4 x 45 x 4.5 inches (87 x 1141.7 x 115.7 mm) H x W x D and Arc weighs 13.78 lbs (6.25 kg).

Please someone help before I go insane

Hello there. Yes the dolby atmos is shown in thr screen. Which i found very helpful.

at first i was double checking everywhere. Incluiding in the area of the settings, bla bla bla.
Putting movies in 5.1 only. Others with atmos. Etc.

and yes. Everytime its an atmos. It will display in the main screen. Obviously when u go to the other settings area u will see it as well.

hope this is helpful.

Thanks a lot for your input gerardolenin. I guess that message only appears when you’re playing DOLBY ATMOS, correct? not when Dolby Digital 5.1 or DD+5.1 or Dolby Stereo 2.0… (which is what I would like Sonos to include in the app since it is already doing it for atmos...)

I have a Playbar myself and I am able to see the Dolby Digital 5.1 on the Settings but it would be nice to have it displayed there...

That is correct. Its only when its receiving Dolby atmos. I actually had the same reaction like you: it should be nice if it shows watever the sound is providing.

i do as well replaced my playbar with full surround extra sonos devices. I can say that the Sonos Arc sounds a lot lot better. Even for other stuff like for example: With the playbar i always had the speech enhancement on. With the Sonos Arc is not needed.

in case somebody didnt read my previous messages. Im in a LG OLED B7 from 2017 and an apple TV 4K

regards.

It would be nice if theres a area where we all can confirm if its compatible.

Anyway, I just came here to help a little bit:

My LG OLED TV from 2017 model: OLED65B7V  is working perfectly with Apple TV and Sonos Arc playing Dolby Atmos. Tried netflix, apple tv series ( See), and Disney plus. Everything working perfect.

Im in the UK

Apple TV is sending DOLBY ATMOS as Dolby Digital and the arc is recognising the signal.

Hello,

thank you for your feedback, just one question, it is not clear for me: how do you know it is reading atmos as DD+ ? Someone says higher that DD+ is not showing in the app? Sorry I missed it somewhere.

I have a samsing qled, not earc, and a Q900r user on another topic says it won’t passthrough atmos from ATV to the arc (evend dd+). Same with any sources he says…

well...my ARC arrived about 1hr ago and I’ve learnt something about my TV (on a positive note).

I’ve a 2018 Samsung Q9FN and it’s actually passing through ATMOS from my Nvidia Shield..lossy.

The complete opposite of what I thought would happen, is happening.  I thought no Atmos from Nvidia Shield, but possibly from built in Netflix App.

more testing this pm….but so far, exceeding my expectations

My Arc arrived yesterday and I can confirm that my 2016 LG B6 does not decode DD+ Atmos through it’s Arc port.  Needless to say I was kind of expecting it, but in the back of my mind I was hoping it still would. LG really screwed its 2016 customers over.  Here’s to hoping that an affordable eARC encoder comes out in the near future.  On a good note, the ARC sounds way better than my Playbar that I replaced.

Hello, this is a quote from another topic (i created a sonos arc vs samsung one connect topic here : https://en.community.sonos.com/home-theater-228993/sonos-arc-and-samsung-qled-2019-with-one-connect-q950r-q90r-6841917?postid=16438487#post16438487),

perhaps it would help you with netflix,

But it is the contrary for the external sources that is said here!

“Yep so the Netflix app passes Atmos via DD+, but for me to get it work I had to go to another app, change the settings to DD+ then go back to Netflix and then Atmos showed up in the descriptions, for whatever reason changing the tv settings whilst on Netflix didn’t work, don’t ask me ask Samsung?! Gave same advice to another poster and it worked for them (smart drive also Q900). Disney+ and amazon prime should work through DD+ but apparently it is a Samsung issue and Atmos doesn’t appear to be working with them full stop regardless of the soundbar. As for Apple TV and other streaming devices it seems Samsung is unable to change the Dolby mat codec to something it can work with so no Atmos there either. Samsung have really dropped the ball compared to LG here, I’m tempted to see what I can sell mine for to pick up LG.”

Hello again,

Regarding the question: How do I know is Dolby Atmos via DD+, well thats easy: Altough its true that in the main screen it shows you that is Dolby Atmos only, if you go to the “about my system” area, it will show you that is Atmos DD+

I was kind of expecting it as well, since all the streaming companies use Atmos DD+ because its an easier compresed method to send Atmos trough internet. At the moment the Full Dolby Atmos or whatever is called is mainly for Bluray and so on.

One exception to this, is Tidal and their Atmos song options in their more expensive subscription, Ive got a trial version to test this. Tidal says in their webpage that is the full uncompressed format and that you require eARC or (if you dont have it)nto plug it directly to the speaker. TheIr Tidal app for apple tv is compatible with this atmos option they offer, so I tested this and i can confirm that is not working ( my tv has no eARC). I guess in a future the Tidal app that we install in the Sonos services will be updated to be compatible with the Sonos Arc anyway ( its not at the moment, i tested this as well).

Few days ago I purchased and then cancel my purchase because of my doubts with the option to have the atmos, since i already have the playbar and i was happy with it. But then on CNET reviews they mentioned that as soon as your TV is able to decode Atmos by itself ( you know this if your smart tv section has their netflix, disney plus and so on with dolby atmos option) and be from 2017 onwards then it would probably work. So i decided to take the risk, glad i did.

I was afraid because somebody in this forum said that with the Apple tv it will not work since the apple tv specifies that it always send the maximum format available…...but then i thought that for netflix, disney, and so on their “maximum” format is DD+ anyway. Maybe in a future when the 1GB internet speed is the normal for everyone they will switch to the full HD. Hope by then to have a new TV with eARC, In the meantime Im fine. I never got a bluray anyway.

Once again, i have a 65” LG B7 from 2017. That is basically the cheaper OLED version from 2017, so i do belive C7, B8,C8 and so on should work perfectly. ( with dolby DD+ only).

Regarding the post with about switching apps in the Samsung QLED in order to make it work thats a bummer, i havent tested on the apps from the smart tv, but I do believe it should work. Actually i was expecting to use those apps in case the Apple TV wouldnt work, glad it did because i prefer it hundred times more.

LG was one of the first ones to support Atmos and Vision since early stages, so probably thats why its been an easier thing for me.

Hope this helps. If any question just let me know.

My shipping order just changed to “Out for Delivery” which surprised me, because I thought it would be delivered on Friday. Keeping my fingers crossed that the ARC will work correctly on my Sony OLED with eARC. I’m hearing rumors that Sony will update the HDMI software later on.

I received my Sonos ARC today, and didn’t realize how heavy the ARC was going to be (I got used to the lightness of The Beam), but it sounds as amazing as every reviewer had said it would be. It took me all day to connect it properly with my Subwoofer and 2 SL’s through trial and error. Yup, I was having major connection problems.

Anyway, interesting observation was my  Amazon TV cube showing “Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 ” in the Sonos app when viewing through “about my system”, but not on the Apple 4K TV. And, I didn’t have problems getting Dolby Atmos, mainly because I have the eARC connection on my Sony OLED. The Sonos ARC sounds brilliant once you get it connected.

My order (placed on 7th June) has gone from 'pending' to 'backorder', and I had a very vague email last night about 'problems with fulfillment'.

Does anyone else have any idea on time frame, I would have bought from the UK reseller rather than Sonos direct if I'd known? Simply Sonos were doing the trade up deal as well, and have stock! Pretty poor from Sonos.

My order was placed June 1st and I’ve never seen it at the pending stage, had no communication from Sonos at all despite sending two emails, their Twitter team just sends out a copy/paste answer to any query regarding pre order delays.

Its an absolute disgrace at this point.

Someone on Reddit spoke to Sonos yesterday and was apparently told this:

FYI: UK Sonos Arc orders (potentially affects other countries as well)I pre-ordered an Arc on the 15th of May, still haven’t had any follow up from earlier week to where my order is yet and it still says temporarily out of stock on the tracking page. So I called just now to ask where it is as i was told it would have shipped yesterday/today. The guy i spoke with on the phone said that as of 15 minutes ago (14:56 local time), they got an update saying that a batch of Sonos Arc have been delayed going to their warehouse. Meaning that they wont receive it till Monday. So those orders will potentially start shipping from next week. When I asked if their shipment on Monday will cover all the affected ARC orders, he said that he is not sure (wasn’t in the update that he got) if it will cover all the affected orders, but assumes that it will. I pressed about their plan of action if they aren’t able to fulfil their delayed pre-orders and he said that he wasn’t able to give a firm answer but most likely it would mean that those orders (including mine) won’t be fulfilled till the July batch arrives.

I wanted any opinion on how I’d introduce an Arc into my living room. My wife is somewhat forgiving of my need for technology, but I need to tread carefully when I want change. I was able to introduce a playbase, as it wasn't too obvious. It sits on a small table that needs to be across the corner of the room, so wall mounting isn't an option. The TV is a 49” Sony and I'm not going to win any discussion about needing a larger screen. My problem how do I  place/mount an Arc below the screen if I replace the playbase. Practically, how can that be done - and will it just ‘look wrong’ ?

Appreciate any advice.

Hi

your info is very helpful. I have an LG 55B7V which as you say works well with the ARC.

i wonder if you have tried a UHD Blu Ray ?  I have an OPPO 203, when playing through the TV to the ARC it shows as Dolby Atmos on the main screen (didn’t check the other) but I am not sure if it was true D A so I plugged the audio only hdmi from the OPPO directly into the ARC and I only got Dolby Digital and it was much weaker than through the TV.

I kind of hoped I would be able to get True HD 7.1 if I went direct.

But it is a wonderful bit of kit and I am supremely happy my TV is passing Atmos to the ARC as I love the picture and didn’t want to change it yet.

My advice to anyone wavering - if you like Sonos products you will love the ARC !

You will need a bigger stand without doubt ! I have a 55”LG and the stand is slightly bigger then the TV but the ARC is about 3” over at each side. try the old we can keep the TV but get a better stand trick.

however it is big so you would need a bigger stand so it doesn’t swamp your TV.

It’s a stunning piece of kit

I received mine yesterday and set it up with 2 Ikea Sonos Symponisk lamps as rear speakers in a surround system.

First of all, the sound is silky smooth and it puts out a nice rich bass even without sub. For music I have set the surround system to "full sound" in the app. The Symphonisk lamps just disappear when set to "ambient" surround setting and the music becomes very front-loaded. In some ways I actually preferred the music from just the two lamps paired for stereo, before I added the Arc to the system. I really like being able to differentiate all the left and right stereo goblins in music, and the surround system makes that much harder. There might be a way to expand the stereophonic effect of music in the app but I am still getting familiarise with the app.

At the moment I am disappointed that I can't seem to get Dolby Atmos out of my Xbox One to pass through my TV into the sound bar. This seems strange to me and I am not sure how to remedy it. Xbox One is my blu ray player as well as a game console, so if I cannot find a workaround this will be tragedy (I fear that Sonos not including an HDMI out in the Arc could be this device's undoing)

My preferred film streaming platform is Disney+ but they have unfortunately stopped streaming in Atmos due to the COVID pandemic (in Europe, anyway) so without a blu ray player, an Xbox or Disney+ I have yet to really put the Dolby Atmos feature to the test. I guess i will have to upgrade to Netflix 4k to give Atmos a proper go. (Personally I feel Netflix UK lacks the catalogue of big films that most benefit from 4K and home theatre sound -  whilst Tiger King is great, I really don't need to hear it in 3D surround sound)

Does anybody know for sure if those YouTube Dolby Atmos demo videos actually put out Atmos sound?

YouTube is all 2.0 stereo.  Download the demos from the Dolby site and play from a thumb drive.  You will be impressed.

Also, you can set surrounds to Full for music sources in the surround settings for the room.  This will give full volume to the surrounds for non-TV sources.

Arrived earlier today and sounds superb. No issues getting it set up other than having to wait for the Remote Control config step to time out (no option to skip).

I was caught out by the optical adapter - I’d been assuming it would be female tso to male hdmi and would plug into the Arc, but it’s the other way around and plugs into the audio source. As such I had to unexpectedly lay hdmi cable as I’d been planning on using the existing optical cabling until an HDMI audio to eARC converter is available.

(white Arc, ordered May 9th, California)

Finally got my new LG C9 set up with the Arc. Done quite a bit of testing  and I can happily confirm that I get Atmos and have zero lip sync issues with the Arc connected to the TV via eARC (passthrough enables) using the following:

Internal Apps (Netflix,Disney+, Amazon)

Apple TV (Netflix, Disney+, Amazon)

Xbox One  X

PS4 Pro (Only have DD content at the moment)

Samsung UHD Player

Very pleased with this as the audio delay from my old Panasonic TV via Arc was awful. Finally got rid of all my optical cables and switches from behind the TV.

Atmos soundtracks sound amazing, filling the whole room. The S2 update also seems to have improved the sound coming out of my Play 1 rears. Overall very pleased with the upgrade.

Have you downloaded the Atmos app onto your  Xbox ? You need it to enable Atmos in the settings.
Im in the UK and I get Atmos from Disney+ via my AppleTV and also via the internal App in my TV.

Hoping someone might be able to help.  I just updated my Palybase with an Arc and using two Play 1’s for surrounds.  The Arc is connected via the supplied HDMI cable to the HDMI/ARC channel on my LGB7 OLED TV.  The audio settings on the TV are correct as far as I can tell. I have tried natives apps, apps from a 4k firestick and an Xbox.  None of them will play Atmos.  I have seen other say that they gave gotten it work and others who say that it doesn’t.  The LG’s firmware is up to date.  Not sure what to try next.

I have an LG OLED B8P hooked up via ARC and can confirm I’m seeing Dolby Atmos sent to the Arc. However I’m seeing the audio lip sync lag which I’ve seen mentioned. Does anyone if there is a fix or whether it’s only via certain sources (e.g. AppleTV vs TV app). I’m having trouble finding Amazon Prime Video Atmos content to test the TV app vs the AppleTV app.

TIA

Had the ARC for a few about a week now, along with a sub and 2 rears. Previously had a Beam. At the moment im a bit underwhelmed by the ARC, its lacking a lot of mid sound and sounds tinny at times.

The Beam had a better overall sound to it. At the moment im more impressed by the sub. I previously had Samsung Q90r which did have a great sound, but had lots of issues in regards to disconnections etc. The Q90r had a great overall sound which this doesn't seem to have at the moment. I am hoping Sonos can improve the sound of it, as its not a cheap soundbar.

Some time ago I posted that HDFURY were working on a eARC solution. Its now in preorder : https://www.hdfury.com/product/4k-arcana-18gbps/

I have a appletv, projector, Sonos Arc setup and this should fix all Dolby Atmos issues etc… Sounds super cool. I have nothing to do with HDFURY but i have spent so many hours trying to find a setup that would work with Sonos ARC (EARC solution). Hope it helps and please let me know if someone has a cheaper solution. Thanks

Just one more HDMI socket on the Arc is all I would’ve needed to make this an easy buy.

In the interests of simplicity they’ve nice again crippled their product and made it 100x more complicated than it should be.

My use case;

  • LG C6 TV with ARC only (not changing this anytime soon as still want 3D)
  • Oppo UltraHD disc player itching to let loose with some full bandwidth Atmos via seperate audio only HDMI
  • Apple TV 4K (arggggh!)
  • Xbox One Pro ready to output Atmos
  • If I use ARC out from TV will only get downscaled DD+ and will run out of HDMI inputs

I’m already looking for extra HDMI eARC splitters/switchers and I can’t see a way to get the full benefit of the upgrade from my Playbase. I did not intend becoming an expert on ARC and eARC this week but now thinking of buying an Sonos Arc I have to factor this into my decision.

How much simpler it would have been to have another input on the Arc! I hope this wasn’t just about saving a couple of dollars in manufacture…..

I think you hit it square on the head, Sonos’s objective was simplicity, but in pursuit of that simplicity it has cornered customers into figuring out how to make do with limited connectivity (hdmi), lack of DTS (again), and trying to find work arounds for eARC to avoid buying a brand new tv, since that is what over 90% of all customers are equipped with with their current TV’s.

Sonos, you have created more hoops for many of us to jump through rather than make our lives simpler, and at a premium cost, bravo.

Still, one hell of a great sounding sound bar.
