Hi all,

I am setting up Google Assistant to work with my Arc.

During the process it decides it wants to control my Panasonic TV.

As my TV has its own Google setup, how do I stop Sonos from managing the TV and creating conflict?

Many thanks

Hi @Blue cat,

The commands that Google Assistant support on Sonos are the basic media commands (play, pause, skip, and volume up/down) while the only TV command being the option to turn the TV on and off. Since the only commands that would work with the TV are for volume or for turning the TV off, you likely aren’t going to have any conflicts.

If both the TV and Sonos Arc hear the command, then one of them (generally your preferred device in the Google Home app) will execute it. Google say this on their article for Multiple devices respond to "Hey Google":

If you say “Hey Google” near two or more devices, such as your Google Nest or Home device and your Pixel Tablet or phone, multiple devices might turn on. Only one of the devices should respond.

Google selects the best device to respond to based on various factors, such as:

  • Proximity of the device
  • Type of request
  • Capabilities of the device

So while multiple devices may hear the command, only one will execute it. If you want a sure fire way to prevent any conflicts, then you just need to specify the device as it’s named in the Google Home app. I’d recommend matching the Sonos Arc name in both the Sonos app and Google Home app for this reason.

I hope this information helps!

Hi Jamie

Many thanks for your help
