Sonos, why would you release an app upgrade with so many problems!? Where are my playlists? They're gone! Where are my alarms?  I can no longer edit or save the queue! Where are my albums? I can't change the home interface! I can delete some of the things you guys added automatically but there's nowhere I can see to add anything. What a mess!

Don't you guys check your work? I've been reading some other letters and there are many more problems.

New Sonos App update… despite many attempts, cannot broadcast the same music in other rooms … error message says cannot connect

It’s working okay here on my setup. I’m running all on WiFi - perhaps try a reboot of the local network annd devices and see if that will resolve the matter. It might just be an IP address conflict, perhaps?

The apps keeps crashing. Cant update my play:3. I cant do anything with the app it keeps getting stuck and crashes. Sonos products are useless now. When will they fix this?

I haven’t had issues with the new Sonos App crashing, but I did once (a long time ago) have an issue with the older S1 App doing a similar thing and it turned out to be a ‘corrupt’ install - I removed the App and rebooted the controller (iPad) and reinstalled it and it worked fine after that, so maybe that’s worth you trying with the new `Sonos App (if not tried already, that is). I find the new App a little slow in places, but I’m not seeing it crash.

Sonos must not even read these comments.

I uninstalled the update and went back to version 16.1 of the app.

For Android

Uninstall the Sonos App then download and install version 16.1 from APKMirror

Hi Folks,

Let me add an interesting twist.  This morning I wanted to setup a new Raom.  We have about ~20 Sonos speakers throughout the entire house that include Fives, ERA 300’s, ERA100’s, Arcs, Subs, One’s, Move’s and now a pair of Roams.  So, to be safe, I used my iPad, which I don;t use for Sonos all that much, to add the Roam.  I was forced to upgrade the app, OK, it’s the iPad, so I don’t really care.  Well, yes, I do.  Once the App updated and added the Roam, all the other old apps that I use, on the iPhone mostly or my Mac, ALL stopped working and saw nothing, no speakers, no music, no playlists, nothing.  We play music from ~6:00 am to ~8:00 pm every single day, without our system, we would lose it!

The fix, after panic was replaced with determination to fix the system without the needing the new app, was to delete the app off the iPad, factory reset both Roams.  Once the Roams no longer existed, everything went back to normal with the old app.  But note, you cannot add any new speakers to your system with the old app.  If you do, beware, your entire system will require that everything is upgraded, not something I am currently willing to do with the state of the new app.

Yes - you clearly did the App/Roam device updates, but it sounds like you didn’t do the other system speakers firmware update. It’s not even clear that you were using the same Household ID, under the same Sonos account credentials - but ‘yes’ it’s always been the case that you cannot add a new Sonos product (or a factory reset one) if you have chosen to keep your existing system on a Standstill-2 (S2) setup.

You are 100% correct, I did not want to risk updating all the systems then being forced to use the new App.  Many of the missing features are features that we use everyday.  Until the new App is fully functional, I cannot risk having so many features not working or just missing.  Also, this is all one household ID under one Sonos account as well, it’s only my wife and I here.  Unfortunately, until the App is fully functional, we cannot use the Roams and cannot add any new speakers.  Currently that’s not a big issue, but it will become one when the new Arc is released, as we are planning on upgrading both home theaters.   Pretty frustrating how this App was brought to market.  I work for a leading high-end Enterprise software company, so I am very familiar with releasing software and this has all the markings of not being fully tested in environments that replicate real life customer installs.

Hi….  Yes, auto update is off, turned that off across the board when the new app was announced.  I wanted to make sure it was solid first, but as mentioned, if you want to add a new speaker, you must upgrade and then the fun starts.  For now, I am leaving the system as is and not messing with anything until this new app is fully functional.  I hope that is sooner than later.

I really hope someone in SONOS gets their comeuppance for this atrocity. Why on earth would anyone launch an update without thorough testing and essential features in place? They solved a few performance issues and created a system that feels like version 0.1. FUBAR.
I sit here listening to songs on my EarPods now. Thanks.

So you wish the company gets “comeuppance”?   Can I assume this means they go out of business and your speakers lose their value to the point they are useless, instead of getting things fixed and Sonos surviving as a company?  Strange way of looking at things

I sent an email to the CEO and to his personal email, no response.  in 2017, Bose was having issues with then SoundTouch, which is what I had back then.  I sent then CEO an email and within a day her personally responded and copied in one of his Development Executives.  We traded emails for many moths but SoundTouch was doomed and eventually I sold off all my Bose hardware and purchased all new Sonos gear.  Up until now, that app has been pretty solid, much better than SoundTouch.  I just hope that this is a lesson learned by Sonos leadership and that they ensure this never happens again.

These f*****g a******s at Sonos.  I have two ios devices which had not updated to the new app, and have auto updates turned off.  SOMEHOW, the app was updated on both devices and I didn’t do it.

This new app is truly a piece of evil-ware.  I now have NO WAY to control my system since my last two devices have no been hosed.

If this doesn’t get fixed ASAP, the hardware is all going to the recycle barrel.  I’m LIVID at Sonos.  There is absolutely nohthing they could possibly do to regain my trust.

Sonos clearly doesn’t give a s**t about their customers.  I hope their stock drops to zero and they go out of business.  Bring back app version 16.1 go back to your corners and figure this out.

We have been installing Sonos for 10+ years and this is by far the worst app release ever, I am unable to even connect to my own system. Absolute shambles.

I have 4 Sonos apps on 4 devices. The first new app dropped on my iPhone. When I experienced the mess, I quickly switched off auto update on my other devices. I have (had?) faith in Sonos and figured I’d give them time to fix and use the old app until then. Well, it is NOT fixed and this morning I was greeted with FORCED UPDATES ON MY DEVICES! Crisis Management 101: Don’t make matters worse for those affected.

I’m not one to get overly excited or upset when new apps are released / updated - usually have a few kinks to work out. That being said, this update is an absolute unmitigated disaster, and nowhere near ready for market. This app isn’t even up to “Beta” testing” standards.

I have been using the S2 app with my system since its inception, and with a couple of exceptions, has worked flawlessly throughout my entire Sonos architecture. My system consists of four Beams, a Move, and an Arc with sub and surrounds in my media room. I don’t use a lot of the features that many have reported missing, but I can tell you this new update flat out does not work even remotely like it should. I use Pandora as my main streaming service through the Sonos app. Since the update, i have to open the app and close it several times just to get it to acknowledge my system and not ask me to set up a new system. Then, once I am able to get it playing, it no longer allows you to go back to the beginning of a track or previous track, etc. Every time my phone goes into standby and you wake the screen, the app says cannot locate system, even though the music is still playing / streaming. Lastly, when I go to turn off the system, after unchecking all the rooms where the music is playing and tap “apply”, the music still continues to play. The only way I can now make it stop is to check Media Room only, then turn on the TV.

Please do not tell me to reset my router, etc - have already done this along with every other recommendation - nothing changes. For the record, nothing has changed in my Sonos system of 5 years and nothing has changed for my internet / WiFi system - the problem is in the new app. If I had to guess, Sonos released this before it was ready for Prime Time because the just announced “Headphones” won’t work without this new release. I was seriously considering getting a set of the new phones, but after this debacle, I’m considering dumping my whole system! As a Network design engineer, I cannot for the life of me see how this could be forced on your client base in its current sorry state.

Almost impossible to use. Alarms no longer work. Try to play anything and it says unavailable. Thanks Sonos. Time to start looking for a new system. This is now unusable. All seven of my components are just about worthless now.

Shutting stable door, alas, but people need to turn off autoupdates of the speakers too, otherwise Sonos can make them incompatible with the old app.  (Android user, stepped back to 16.1 because that worked with my Windows library.)

I dont understand why this company is so bad, like you made speakers which connect over wifi (already less usable than bluetooth) and then make it worse with your software updates. Just make speakers and stop messing this up.

OMG THEY JUST **BROKE** IT!

I am stunned and baffled as to why I was pushed a totally broken program as an "update". If I can't even change what song plays next, this thing is NONFUNCTIONAL.

This new verision is really a travesty. They ought to allow a downgrade for users.  I use the app to play music in my restaurant and it is not only unresponsive and quirky, but it is not intuitive.  Changing the audio on multiple speakers at once has a delay.  The interface for choosing sources for music is horrible.  IIf you have multiple playlists or sources playing on different sets of speakers, you cannot tell what playlist is playing on what.  Further, when adding a TV source to a beam, whatever speakers were grouped with it break apart. If you pause, there is a delay.  If you hit play there is a delay.  The song playing on any set of speakers does not show current, as it could be a song that played 10 minutes prior. At least I can flip open my MacBook and it is far more responsive and easier to figure out.  Im using an iPad Pro M1 with the app so it's not the processing power.  This is just a real piece of s**** software

I agree. This is so bad it defies logic and makes me wonder what they are really trying to achieve. Because it definitely isn’t an improvement. The worst ‘upgrade’ I have experienced.

I don’t understand the new app. Where is all of the usual functionality please? Sonos Playlists (essentials etc), stations, seem to have been replaced by an app without most of the features I use. It also seems to be impossible to switch the music being played between my various speakers on the system.

Please put the prior version of the app back on the iOS App Store and give us a choice.  Every company can make a mistake like this, how you handle it differentiates good companies from those who don’t care about their customers.  DO THE RIGHT THING!

I see there has been another update however still so many bugs hard to list them all. Lets get the old app back.
