I almost exclusively use Spotify with/through Sonos. Up until the latest Sonos update just over a week ago, I was able to start playing a playlist or song from Spotify through Sonos, then open up the Sonos menu and click “Start Radio.” That would instantiate a Spotify radio station based on the song that was playing, which I then added to my Sonos favorites. I also created several home automation routines through my HA Hub (Hubitat) so that I could kickoff any of those radio stations with voice commands to Alexa/Echo. That was all working perfectly until the last Sonos update (v 80.07.03). The Hubitat Sonos integration supports playing a Sonos favorite.
Since the last Sonos update, I noticed my home automation voice commands weren’t working. So, I then started using the Sonos app and found that playing Spotify Radio Stations has completely broken. Whenever I attempt to play one of the aforementioned Sonos Favorites (Spotify radio stations), Sonos switches to the “Play” icon, nothing happens, and about a second later it switches back to Pause. In other words, it’s failing. Further, when I attempt the aforementioned process to create a new Radio Station from within Sonos, again, nothing happens. The “Start Radio” menu selection is still there in the Sonos menu, but when I tap it, the currently-playing track stops playing but nothing happens - no new radio station, no more music.
I can still play a Spotify radio station if I use the Spotify app and select my Sonos speakers. If I do that, I no longer see the cross-fade switch available in the Sonos menu. And, once I’ve started that radio station in Spotify, if I move over the Sonos app I can still save the currently-playing station as a Sonos Favorite, but if I stop the music, and attempt to start that newly-saved radio station again from within Sonos, it fails in the same manner described above.
Given all the issues with the latest app releases, and the fact that this all broke immediately after the last Sonos app update, it’s evident that Sonos is the culprit here, and not Spotify. Something in the Spotify integration has broken OR Sonos has decided to stop supporting Spotify Radio stations (without telling us).
Has anyone else noticed/experienced this issue since the last update?
