I installed my Sonos system 2 days ago and I add the Plex service. Plex remote access is working properly. I could play my Plex flac files whithin Sonos app immediatelly. Yesterday I ripped some new CDs and I added them to Plex. I could play the flac files from Plexamp to Sonos devices but from the Sonos app I can see all the files but when I add them to the queue I receive the messase "I can't play - song name - Plex connection server lost. The flac files added originally could still play within Sonos app. I tried many things that I read online... suddenly after activate/disactivate the Plex remote connection, the new files where available also in the Sonos app. Today I added new files to Plex and again I can't play them within Sonos app but only from Plexamp to Sonos... I read everything about this subject, the situation is very weird, does anybody have an idea? To me looks like a Sonos bug.

Hi @cbat79

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

The only documentation I could find on this suggested you do what you have already done - remove the service from Sonos and add it again. There was no issue tracker on the documentation, so it appears that we are not actively investigating this. Music services are responsible for their own integration with our systems, so I can only recommend that you report this behaviour to Plex directly.

Hi @Corry P

thank you for your message. The day after my post the files added to the Plex database where available to be plyed from the Sonos app too whithout duing anything, just keep calm and wait. So I contacted the Sonos support to understand if this thing is expected, they told me that they are awared of the problem and they are working on it, by now there is no information about a fix. My case number was ******** if you have any chance to chek it. I was told that there should be also a trascription of the chat but I have no idea where to find it.

Moderator Edit - Removed and recorded case number.

Hi @cbat79

Thanks - I have reviewed the case and I believe the agent you spoke to incorrectly identified the issue - the issue they tagged against your case is relevant to Plex content marked as a Favourite in the Sonos app, and not that recently added Plex content will not play. The agent will receive feedback concerning this.

The transcript is available to you immediately after the chat closes, but not now - if you would like a copy of it, please let me know and I can DM it to you.

I still recommend contacting Plex regarding this issue.

I hope this helps.

Hello @Corry

thanks for your quick reply. Can you please DM me with the chat trascription for my future reference.

Today I added one more disc to my Plex collection and the situation is the same again. Now I try to contact Plex and If I get an answer from them I’ll post it here as a reference for the community. My Best, Cristian

Hi @cbat79

Sure - I’ll find it and sent it to you now.

From what I have seen, I believe it’s common practice for music service to store your personal index data in multiple locations for use with different playback service (for lack of a better term) that is accessing the data.  The multiple locations will sync at a later time. Plex needs to have interfaces in place for Sonos,  the various streaming TV apps, and of course their own Plex and Plex amps apps on Windows, Mac, iOS and android, possible different versions depending on the version of the OS.  It stands to reason that you are seeing the new music on Plex amp before you see in Sonos as Plex surely prioritizes their own app over Sonos.

Also with Plex, the music is accessed differently whether you are on the local network where your files are stored, or accessing the music off network.  And while Sonos speakers are in your network, I believe Sonos has to access your index through a plex cloud server, rather than directly from your local plex server.  If you were accessing plex amp on your phone while connected to local wifi, that could also explain the delay.

Either way though, reaching out to Plex for an answer is the right call.
