I’m getting a message on my MacBook that the Sonos app will soon need to be upgraded because support for apps built for the Intel processors are being phased out. I have Sonos app version 17.2 and MacOS 26.4.1. Is a newer version of the Sonos app available?

Prior to the upcoming MacOS release previous versions of MacOS used “Rosetta

Here’s an AI Overview”

  • "Rosetta" most commonly refers to Apple's translation software enabling Intel-based apps to run on Apple silicon (M1/M2/M3 chips). It works by automatically translating code during installation, allowing for immediate, responsive performance. It is crucial for compatibility but will be phased out in future macOS versions.

Sonos has decided not to recode the MacOS app to work with Apple silicon. Sonos actually started stripping the desktop app of functionality (i.e. setup and others functions) from MacOS and Windows several years ago. Eventually, the desktop app will be phased out on Windows as well. The Web-Based app is the eventual replacement.

I received that message also, causing me to end up here. I lost my queue due to a power outage caused by a lightning strike last night. I tried restoring the queue (my 6000+ hourlong Mixcloud uploads to play randomly). My iOS iPad only added 100 “songs” and wouldn’t shuffle them. My still functioning MacOS on new Mac Neo, I guess using Rosetta in the background, managed to queue up all 6000+ and randomize.

Sonos needs to drop a couple of their checkmarks for features off of iOS and add them to MacOS—at least for now.

Sonos decisions over the years is the equivalent of a big F.U. to their customers.

Wow, I’m so disappointed. Their software has always been *****, but this is even worse. As least on my Mac I could get it to work. Anyone know of an alternative app for Sono’s? Their webapp has very little functionality.

What features do you miss in the web app compared to the PC app?

What features do you miss in the web app compared to the PC app?

No Music Library album art. Both in local library listing and now playing. Now playing doesn’t show the album name. No A-Z jump for the Music Library. Snail pace scrolling, when using the Music Library. Delayed, lagging volume adjustments. Overall slow responses to all actions.

I see a few feature requests coming. Though having album art especially from your music library might slow the web app down even more.

+ No EQ control
+ Inconvenient volume control: volume doesn’t change while dragging the slider. New volume comes into effect only after releasing the mouse.
+ No way to add/remove/edit streaming services
+ No way to manage and update local music library
+ Need to login at start (type email/password) to control in-home music player on local network - funny and boring.
Yeah, I know everything about “security”, "cyber attacks”, “Russian hackers”, “North Korean hackers“ and all that. 😁
+ Can’t control in-home music player  on local network without Internet access. What???

When looking at the album that’s playing (in the music library or music service), there’s no indication of which song is playing, like there is in the queue (works in all other controllers).

There isn’t a way to save a queue to playlist or create a playlist or add to playlist.

No way to look up /search on the currently playing artist or song (other than type it in the search box). ie most all context type menus are non-existent.
