The latest version upgrade of S2 12.2.4 has started to say that the OS on my Motorola G4+ phone Android 7.0 is no longer supported. It now no longer finds my Sonos Play:1 and Play:3 speakers in the app. The notification directs me to the Sonos website documentation that says that Andriod 7 is supported. I haven’t seen any announcements that Sonos is dropping support for Android 7. Why is this happening?

I confirm: bug fixed and app works fine on my phone with 12.2.5 version. Thanks to the Sonos support. More fear than harm...

So there’s no incentive to keep older phones working, despite the waste of the worlds resources. Sonos applies the same criteria - they don’t repair anything, just ‘recycle’ it. As far as I’m aware, they won’t fix your broken kit and return it to you...
No, you get a refurbished one as replacement if the item is out of warranty - that’s called RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). That’s why you are required to return defective items to Sonos in exchange for a refurbished one.

I don’t buy into the ‘security’ argument - if Sonos cared about security then they would have fixed the SMB1 issue when changing to S2. The reason that they only support more modern hardware/software is because it’s easier and cheaper for them to do so.
I still have a phone up to date but it’s convenient to leave a old tablet at home to navigate and such, especially if you have guest for example, so they could choose and not have your phone.
The more time pass, the more I’m kinda “pissed” at Sonos. Great hardware and build quality, but all these thing push me to not buy any new more product; even if I want to buy the Arc for example but I fear for the support … If at least the bluetooth was available or other “open” method … They do the same thing like Apple but without the “same” support (Even if it’s shorter year after year) and I’m not looking that much TV to be finally disappointed haha

Your old tablet will likely still be good for general use with Sonos, just not setup and configurations.

Not exactly sure what you fear when it comes to the Arc. Sonos has stated that they will continue to provide full support for products at least 5 years after they stop selling. Since the playbar sold for 7 years, and the Arc just went on sale last year, it’s safe to say you have a good 10 years left at least.
Yes but the feeling of the possibilty to have hardware depreciated just by software guidelines … When it works perfectly, it’s not good :)
And when the trust is breached, it’s hard to regain, unfortunately
Had the problem last year that the S1 App popped up and said my OS was no longer supported. It was fine as everything continued to work as usual. Woke up this morning and the App said it will no longer work and I couldnt get past the message or turn on/turn off/control my speakers.
The support page said that the S1 will continue to work but when I got onto to support they blamed me because i had “automatic updates” ticked and my speakers had been “updated” but not the App and they would no longer work unless I bought a new phone. Very bad service that they can make my speakers redundant by stealth. Tried to delete and then re-install S1 but it failed to work. Just sitting here and remembered that my Spotify App also works my speakers so I tried that and it works fine.
Basically Sonos has “updated” my older system to a point that it no longer works yet Spotify App (without any sort of update) continues to work fine.
It's Spotify Connect, and works more flawlessly than Sonos S2 haha, I use it all the time too, it's more convenient and speedy.
