Amazon Alexa & Sonos

I purchased a new Sonos One 2nd gen last month, and I immediately noticed that the microphone was nowhere as sensitive as the gen 1 version. For Alexa to respond, I have to be quite near the Sonos One, and I've had to raise the volume of my voice to be heard. I relocated from Europe earlier this year and was waiting for all my Sonos gear to arrive with my furnitures. Those have now arrived and I set it all up over the past few days. So I have Sonos One devices in all bedrooms, all but one are 1st gen, the 2nd gen being in my bedroom. When I say "Alexa, turn on the light", it's typically Alexa in another room that will respond. "Alexa set a timer for 5 minutes" and you can hear it being setup in another bedroom. Now I don't know if it's an issue with this particular gen2 that is faulty, or that somehow the gen2 has a less sensitive microphone. But it's pretty much unusable as an Alexa device. If I say "Alexa!" with a rather low voice, I can hear the "ding" noise on all the o

Hi, Greetings,i m using Beam it’s a great product, but not able to access Alexa or any other voice asstt. ,Do anyone have the same problem with solution or alternative…!!pls provide info with details. thanks

Hi. We have 2 Sonos One with Alexa, one "kitchen", one "living room" Living room is the older unit. When I ask living room to play BBC radio 2, she goes through the routine, but the station doesnt play, but when i do the same on Kitchen, the station does play. Both speakers are on wifi, less than 20 feet from the wifi hub and our current wifi speed is 40mbps. Can any one help please?

Hello All,Moved into a new property with built in speakers in the ceiling. I’ve purchased a Sonos amp to run these and it’s working great. I now want to connect my Alexa devices to this amp (wirelessly). But Alexa doesn’t seem to discover the amp, I had no problem with this in the old property with an older gen Play:1.  Any help would be hugely appreciated.  United Kingdom Cheers, Patrick

Purchased my second sonos 1 in December, and noticed sometimes when music is playing, Alexa will not respond to me! The volume of the music is never too loud and the mic is enabled, if I stop playback via the Sonos app,  Alexa then begins to respond again. I do it and never had this issue with my other Sonos 1

Buongiorno.

Hello all, as you all may already know Alexa cant speak out voice notifications like it can with any Amazon Alexa device. I have seen a lot forum posts asking why they cant hear their Ring motion and doorbell notifications and for the longest time ever those notifications never worked with Sonos. Well as of last night my Sonos One speakers started blurting out motion detections and doorbell presses. I cant find any release notes about this anywhere, has anyone noticed this too? I also noticed with Alexa routines if you had an Alexa response she would say “Alexa voice responses are not compatible with this device” now she doesn’t and voice responses work just fine with routines. Hopefully this isn't a fluke bug.

Hello to Everyone!I have recently bought a Beam, wich works properly with Sonos S2 app, it is ARC connected to a Sony TV, but I just can’t integrate Alexa in the Sonos S2 app, which - when I try to add Alexa - always returns, that this service is not available in my country (Hungary). Although, I have set up the ios Alexa app on my iPhone, with a Hungarian address, and Alexa seamlessly discovered the Beam. I can also give voice commands within the Alexa app (just as if I would talk to Siri on my iPhone, of course, in English) - and Alexa executes them properly, but the Sonos S2 app doesn’t allow me to add Alexa. I have linked my Sonos profile to Alexa, within the Alexa app, also. This means, everything works from the Amazon side, but the Sonos app doesn’t allow me to add Alexa, because of territory restrictions. Certainly, I would not like to create a new Apple ID with a fake US or UK address, just to be able to add Alexa to the Sonos app, because I’ve read, that is possible.Could you

Alexa routines work fine to play music from one Sonos speaker or let Alexa say things like the time on a given speaker. But I cannot get this to work multi-room. The Alexa announcement feature is meant to let Alexa say something on all speakers, and it indeed works across Sonos and Echo Dot when activated by voice command – but not if I activate an announcement through an Alexa routine (although I can select Sonos and Amazon devices here).Has anyone been able to make this work? Thanks!

I feel that the volume of Alexa’s voice should be able to be set independently from the Sonos volume. For me, it is too hard to here her voice over the sound coming out of the Sonos speakers. Thoughts?

I am very dissapointed to see that the New Sonos 5 does NOT have voice recognition built in. As a family of 5 people who all use my current Sonos Play 5 Gen 1 using an Amazon Echo Input which is plugged into the Play 5 via the 3.5mm Jack lead to talk to the speaker. I currently am subscribed to Amazon Music HD family plan. I would like to upgrade my Sonos Play 5 for the New Sonos 5 but I am struggling to justify the price for an upgrade which would simply enable me to use the new S2 app on my smartphone. I feel that the rough cost to upgrade (£400+) for this speaker is a lot of money for not much gain. This is why I was so disappointed that the Sonos 5 doesn’t even have voice recognition built in! 😳 I don’t buy the argument that music boffs prefer the item without this option as surely if the product is simply made with voice recognition built in, the customer using the product simply has the option to either turn this facility On Or Off. Quite a simple solution! I’m sure other people

Hi, I've got a system both s1 and s2 compatible. I'm wondering whether I should upgrade? My system is as follows: Bedroom: Play5 (1st gen) (not S2 compatible) Living room: playbar + 2x sonos one (2nd gen) - this is set up as surround 5.0 for my TVSonos boost - to create separate network for all sonos products   Now my question is:1) what are my benefits to upgrade to S2 for living room which is S2 applicable and keeping bedroom as S1. 2)Also is it possible to setup Alexa in living room on sonos one, when the system is set up as surround. This is not possible for S1 and I wasn't able to find an answer if that's possible for S2  Thank you in advance for your help

The sonos app says that Alexa or the google voice assistant are not available in my region. I’m in the Cayman Islands.  Is there another option or have I just bought the wrong product?

I recently updated to the Sonos 2 app and upgraded the firmware in all my speakers. I have a move, beam, and 2 play:1s.  Now when I ask Alexa to play a station on pandora it plays one song and then stops.  Also, if a song is playing and I want to thumbs up or skip the song, alexa will say nothing is playing.  This all worked prior to the new app and firmware.

It should be made clear that the Sonos Alexa interface is very limited. The sonos speaker will not control any Alexa smart devices or skills. After months of trying to get 3 Alexa enabled Sonos to work i now have an email from Amazon to confirm that smart devices cannot be controlled using the 3rd party speakers. :-(

Hi all,  Having a bit of mare - and don’t really know where to start with explaining - but I’ll try! TL;DR:I want individual voice control of each room speaker & ‘play everywhere’, but, at the moment that’s not working. Setup:Sonos 1 and ZP90 in living roomPlay: 1 in bedroomPlay: 1 in kitchenOn S1 OS because of the connect What I want:Individual Alexa control of what plays in each room (from the only alexa device, the Sonos 1 in the living room) Play ‘everywhere’ if I want to combine it all into one, big, loud sonos-festWhat I’m getting:Individual control of what plays in each room UNTIL the moment I instruct it to play everywhere. That works beautifully, but then returning to individual control of rooms stops. It plays on an individual speaker, but the wrong one. For example… play ‘xyz’ on living room will prompt the response ‘playing xyz on living room’, but it’ll appear in the bedroom. It’s taken a good few hours of my life so far! I thought it was an echo messing things up, but

How do I set up Alexa on a Sonos in hk. Alexa isn’t on the Hong Kong App Store and it’s not an option in the Sonos app - the app only offers music options not voice.  Thanks

I have 15 Sonos speakers including two Beams. I initially got the Beams due to Alexa integration. However, I have now given up. I have deactivated the voice assistants on my Sonos/Alexa devices (Beams and Sonos Ones), and have installed Echo Dots next to the speakers.I have have two major issues. First, Alexa’s voice volume renders Alexa useless for interaction because she speaks too softly to hear.  There have been numerous threads about this over the past few years, yet the issue remains. A recent post here indicates that your engineers were unaware. LOL. They must be new hires since it has been an issue since day one.Second, so many Alexa capabilities are not enabled, such as communications. So my recommendation to those who like Sonos and use Alexa is to use separate devices, because Alexa / Sonos integration really is poor.

When will multiroom be available with Sonos speakers (with Alexa built in) and Amazon Echos?

I’ve seen a lot of conversations in this forum about TV control voice commands through a Beam or Arc not working properly, but most seem to indicate intermittent success or that one or the other command won’t work (i.e. can tell Alexa to turn the TV on and that works, but off doesn’t, or vice-versa). I just installed a new Arc (upgrading from a Playbar) and it’s setup and functioning perfectly, including the Alexa integration.  However, I cannot get the Sonos Arc to control my TV at all.  I have a Samsung Frame, model # QN55LS03RAFXZA.  I have the Sonos Arc connected to my TV’s HDMI/ARC port and I have HDMI-CEC/Anynet+ turned on.  However, whenever I attempt to turn the TV on or off by voice (“Alexa, turn on the TV”), Alexa responds with “Sorry I didn’t find a device with the name TV.”  I tried other variations...Alexa, power up the tv...Alexa, power on the tv...etc.  And I was online with Support for 30 minutes with no success either. What confuses me is that when I issue that verbal c

I just purchased the Sonos One device. Aside from it not being very user friendly to sync with my Alexa app, it also doesn’t have the capability of customizing its own wake word. So, I have to be aware of how loud I say “ALEXA”. Otherwise, my Alexa device in the kitchen hears me.  This should be a moderately easy software update and it is definitely a trending concern for your customers.  It’s obviously important to us. So, I hope that it is important to you.

I think I have found the solution that I am looking for, but wanted to run this by others. I know from reading that there seems to be various ways to use the Echo Link (no amp version) My proposed use is rather simple. I want to take the optical output of the Echo Link and run it unit the optical in of my Sonos Playbar. This will allow me to drive music through the rest of the house that is composed of Echo product, and my living room Sonos system at the same time.  Any reason why this should not work?  Thank you for your time.

Would like to be able to use my shazam favorites and play lists  , by voice searching via alexa ect , ?

Hi. I’ve seen this issue raised elsewhere as long ago as 2 years back but there has still been no satisfactory resolution. I have a Sonos One with the Alexa capability. Whenever I ask Alexa to play a track, it announces the track as the track actually begins to play. This happens whenever I use the voice command, “Alexa, play track-x”. I don’t have an Echo Dot or any other related/connected device. Why has this still not been sorted out? It’s really frustrating and should be easily fixed with a patch. Can you reply to my questions? Thanks!

I am pleased to see the Alexa integration now supporting routines on Sonos devices. I have an Alexa “Good Morning” routine that plays my Flash News Briefing and when complete turns on the Radio and Lights in the Bathroom. If this routine is triggered on an Echo Dot it works well, if the routine is triggered on the Sonos device it plays the Flash News Briefing but does not turn on the Radio or the Lights. When the Sonos device plays the Flash News Briefing I never get the “this completes your Flash News Briefing” message that I get from the Echo device.Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions… spent way too much time on this already :)
