As stated in the title I have three Play 5s (2 black, 1 white), having recently received the third from Adorama during their Black Friday sale. The first two I’ve been using (1, black, 1 white) for the past year have the same circular power cord, albeit in their respective colors. However, the third Play 5 that I just received came with a more flat (not circular) power cord. Does anyone know why this is? I also compared the back of each speaker and there are slight differences in the text right above and below the row of inputs (ethernet, line-in, sync button). I’m assuming that these differences are slight differences between production batches but can’t ay for sure. Perhaps important to note that ALL of the Play5s came brand new fully packaged, shrink wrapped and all. Questions: Which power cord version is the latest model? How can I tell which of the Play5s is the newer/older model? Should I be concerned/cautious about the differences between production batches/models? i.e. ar
I heard that owning a legacy product prevents you from receiving updates for your newer products, however there will be a way to “separate” them so you can still get the updates. Will this feature prevent you from grouping newer and old products together? Will you lose the ability to stream music to all your Sonos products in sync if you own older ones? Having to choose between losing grouping between all products or not receiving updates for newer products sounds like an absolute deal breaker for me. I read the “Clarifications” post but they do not answer the grouping ability.
The recent combination of announcements - Bridges being made obsolete, the 30% discount in return for bricking a speaker and now the outmoding of the origins Play 5 makes me wonder if the entire ‘smart speaker’ business is going. I have a Play:5 and a Play:1 at home, and none of the rest of my family have any interest in using them. My wife listens to the radio or music via her iMac while working, while my two teenage daughters prefer Bluetooth speakers or just headphones while listening to music. Having Spotify and Broadband means they can stream whatever they like, whenever, so the idea of loading music onto the NAS drive seems pointless to them. It seems that just about every other connected device has the ability to play music now - whether a phone, a tablet or a TV, and software like Airplay means we can route that where we want, using any convenient combination of hardware and software that we want to use. The recent Sonos announcements suggests to me that the idea of tying your
I'm wondering when generation 2 play 5 will become Obsolete and wondering why I should even invest in it anymore because it will become obsolete when is that date
I have 2 Play 1s in my system and they show as being Modern, rather than Legacy. So that I can work out how long they will be supported, does anyone know when Sonos stopped selling them? My concern is, if it was, for example, 2 years ago then Sonos could announce they’re Legacy tomorrow and so they’d only have 3 years left of support.
Is there a way to identify “Legacy” Sonos speakers via their serial number?
Is there a button or gesture to mute the Sonos One on the speaker?
Anybody else a little bit infuriated by the latest e-Mail from Sonos about end of software updates. I think it’s crazy that because my Play 5 is “legacy” my Play 1, Play 3, Beam and playbar could be rendered useless unless I basically pay a ransom of £300 to replace it with a new one (taking into account the 30%). There should be a third option to be able to at least move your legacy system to a separate app or something so you can still at least make use of the rest of the system that most of us have spent hundreds of pounds building up. Rethink this Sonos or maybe I’ll also make a threat that I will start building up a Bose system instead.
Hi Sonos I am finding your trade up offer grossly unfair. Today you have informed us that our Play 5 Gen 1 are basically becoming obsolete! I own 2 of the above speakers and have loved them for many years. You are now asking loyal customers,in my position,to pay almost £750 to replace them(30% discounted). This doesn’t sound like a very good deal to me. My only option may be to sell my speakers privately so I can afford to buy a new system This ,however, would not be Sonos. Graeme
With the announcement that ‘legacy’ products will no longer receive updates and if you mix new ones with them, the new ones will not receive updates either, is it time to ditch Sonos altogether? I love Sonos products and have many of them. Several are linked to sound systems (home cinema, hifi, etc.) and I listen to music through those systems. But my wife prefers to listen through various Alex Echo devices that we also have. Whereas I say “Alexa, play Radio X on the front lounge” to get radio onto my front lounge hifi speakers, my wife just says “Alexa, play Radio X” to play it on the Echo Show in the same room. Obviously, the hifi speakers are superior. However, I cannot see what new features a Gen 1 Play:5, Connect and Connect:Amp will need in the future to continue to stream music and radio stations and therefore cannot understand why we can’t continue to use them. As a direct consequence of the shameful Sonos email, I am very seriously thinking of ditching Sonos entirely and have
Hello. i have just received a notification email indicating that my Play 5 and my Bridge will not be supported anymore. this is disappointing because it has only been 6 or so years that we have had these products. They work great and i see no reason to change. for arguments sake, say i do upgrade with the 30% discount what’s to say Sonos won’t do the same thing again in the same time frame? i would rotating sound equipment faster than it actually breaks just solely based on software obsolescence alone. this is highly disappointing. please comment as i would like to understand the rationale better. thanks please note, i really do appreciate the Sonos environment. Very well thought-out and works seamlessly with our streaming services. So i am not disappointed with the products. Just the managment of the downstream customer experience
Like many longtime users of Sonos products (since 2012) I guess I have acted as an ‘unpaid ambassador’ for their brand. I’m not the type to ‘boast’ about owning such a system to others, but probably at least once every couple of weeks I recommend them - usually adding the line ‘a little pricey, but worth it’. Like many users, I received one of those 'Your system requires attention' - emails. The first had been for my various Bridges - no biggie, I traded up to a Boost. However this time Sonos Inc. decided to announce that my Connect box (bought 2013 @ USD 320, still being sold in UK by the large firm Richer Sounds) and my 2x Play:5 (‘1st Gen’, bought 2013 and 2015 @ USD 450 each) were now considered to be ‘legacy’. Given that this effectively means that after 5 years of use of some products, I am now being advised by Sonos to return them and pay to ‘trade-up’ instead, in all honesty I can’t see myself recommending Sonos to anyone else I meet going forward. Had Sonos been half the price
Hello, I have a cafe’ and purchased 3 sonos speakers from Ikea, they seems to work fine but its been a couple of months now that when playing music from spotify the music stops randomly and then starts again after a wile. It really disturbs the business mood. I tried unplugging and pairing the speakers again but the problem is not getting fixed. any way to fix this? The sonos app is up to date. Thanks!
Given the EOL of the Play:5 I am wondering what the timeline is for the Play:1, this should honestly be publicly visible for all products somewhere to allow for system planning.
Just seen this: https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/es42jk/32mb_no_longer_enough_chart_shows_installed_ram/ Could be being harsh, but surely as memory got way cheaper, it would have made sense for Sonos to increase memory sizes from year to year? Look at the lousy amount Play:5 Gen1 had from the start.
Play 5 devices could be used as dumb speakers in recycle mode but does that work?
I am a happy new Sonos owner. I haven’t been able to find an exact answer to this in the various topics. After power is lost to a speaker, does Trueplay need to be run again? The reason I ask is that one of my speakers is on the same outlet as a timed lighting circuit. This circuit goes on and off once per day. I am waiting for the electrician to split the outlet so that one half is always on. That will also solve the problem of the speaker falling out of its group every day.
When will the Play:5 (Gen 2) be replaced/updated to have voice-assistant capabilities, and adhere to the new Sonos design language and colour scheme? I want to upgrade my Play:5 (Gen 1), but do not want to buy the current product, which I think will be one of the next on the legacy list.
Hi. New to the Sonos universe. I’ve just bought two Sonos One SL for my dining room. I have them paired as separate stereo speakers and sitting on top of a sideboard. Space was an issue. I have traditional amp / speaker set ups in other rooms and opted for Sonos because of the pairing. So far so good. Initially disappointed with the depth, but opted out of ‘tuning’ and manually adjusted the ‘eq’ and I’m very pleased. Great clarity at low volume which is ideal for the room. However, now I’m thinking about adding more depth with a Sonos 5 (or similar?) which would sit primarily opposite the Ones under a bench (dining table with 4 chairs and a bench). Firstly any suggestions re set up very welcome; but also what would be best for adding depth. The Sonos 5? And also, if I added another Sonos One - can you independently eq each speaker if all paired? If so, I could (in theory) get another Sonos One and eq flat or with more bass to mimic a sub…? Thanks.
Hi all, In our living room we have a Sonos Beam attached on the wall under the TV. Beam is used while watching TV but also when someone in the living room streams his Spotify to the Beam. This works like a charm but I'm not totally convinced with the sound, for me it's not full enough. We also have a Sonos Play:1 and that one travels between the bedrooms of our children. They both use it for listening music. They are happy with it. Yesterday I was watching a movie on the TV and decided to grab the Play:1 (sorry kids!) and take it downstairs. I paired it with the Beam and started watching Rogue One. For me the sound was way better compared to just the Beam. I understand that this isn't true stereo and neither is surround but the resulting sound was way more richer than ever before. Now I want to buy an additional speaker so the kids can have the Play:1 again. I'm thinking about buying the new Sonos Move. It could be used for watching Tv in the house but can also be taken outside while s
Hello, I understood from several messages that the Sonos Moce will not be incorporated in the Sonosnet mesh network and if I continue using the sonosnet basically will not be able to included the move in groups and plkay synchronized music. I have an existing network with 10 + speakers, consisting of play 1 One, play 3 play 5 (1ste and 2nd gen) beam and sub, . Till now the clear message was that for such qty of speakers the only good option was the Sonosnet. My network is build up from with ubiquiti material (USG / managed switches & 2 accesspoints) Basically buying a Move would push me from the Sonosnet to wifi, will this setup be as stable as the sonosnet ?
So I have a problem here. I’m currently study aboard in the US, and my home country is Vietnam. In Vietnam, we already have a beam, 2 plays 5, 2 plays 3, and 2 plays 1. So I’m planning to buy a playbar, and a sub, they are very long (playbar) and heavy (sub). Last year, I bought the Sonos Beam, but because it was shorter than the playbar so we was able to put it in the checked luggage. However, this time, both the Sub is too heavy (~36lbs), and the playbar is too long (the beam barely fits our luggage, so I’m sure the playbar won’t fit.) So I have 2 options: I can carry it as a Carry-On, but I’m worry that the playbar is also too long to fits in the cabin baggage, and the sub is too heavy to be carry on-board. So I’m not sure about this option I can check them as checked luggage. However, this can be quite problematic because they are high valued products so they can be easily stolen. Second, I’m worry that the box and the speakers can be damage, which I don’t want to happen. Please le
I have a play 1 speaker that is blown I have only had the speaker 4 years has anyone else experienced this issue?
I’d like to purchase the entertainment set for a record player to play in a large room. I would also like to add two Play:5s to another part of the house and still play music from the record player throughout the house. Essentially, just connecting all the speakers to play off the record player. Is that possible? If so, how can I do that? Thank you!
Just wondering if anyone knows what the Play 5’s cabinet and drivers are made of? Thanks
