Speakers

Have been the happy owner of a Play:5 and two Play:3's. I've always been careful to watch the volume levels on them (more for preservation of my hearing), but my girlfriend tends to run them pretty loud as she's doing chores around the house. Are blown speakers an issue with Sonos? I quick google search appears to say "no", but just wanted to check with you guys. I thought I remember reading that Sonos has it's own protection circuitry built in. Also, with "active" speakers, are the chances of blowing a speaker pretty small?

So…here goes the Sonos v. Heos Comparison…version 2.0. As noted previously, the former draft disappeared, never to be seen again. Which is sad, it took a while to write. As you may recall, I have been irritated with Heos over the last couple of months and have been looking at Sonos as a viable competitor. Sonos is the market leader so there must be something good going on there right? My comments below primarily concern sound quality, as this is the most important factor to me in any speaker. On a ten point scale, sound quality gets 5 points, app 2, design 2, and reliability 1. Sonos One v. Me and a friend are interested in play 1 devices. We were blown away in a demo today in store but if we go camping for example where there is no wifi router, could the Sonos be configured to connect to a iPhone Hot spot and play music (assuming there is power) ? Is this possible somehow either playing music from an iPhone or iPad over a hotspot on the device straight to the Sonos without a router ?

My question is on the SonosNet behavior when there is more than 1 cable connection. My scenario: I have 11 Sonos units. One of them (poorly positioned far though) is connected by cable to the network, which puts the entire network on SonosNet (About screen reads WM:0). But it's choppy, which could be to the poor position of the unit that is cabled. I have a question, if I plug a second Sonos unit to ethernet somewhere in the middle of the mesh network, will it strengthen the entire mesh network? E.g. will SonosNet take advantage from the fact that the second unit has direct access to internet and won't route further away nodes all the way to the same unit which has the cable connection? My guess would be that this would be the default behavior, but I wanted to confirm the SonosNet behavior. The choppiness might be due to two things, either 2.4 GHZ interference from neighboring wifi networks, which is the case in the area. But I also know that far away nodes in the mesh netw

Moving to Houston and working on a Sonos setup. New house has a 10x10 gazebo with power and a tv. Gazebo is 30 ft from the house. I would love to put a pair of Play:1’s in it. What are people’s thought on these speakers outdoors in rain proof environment? Also, will I have connectivity issues that far from the house (airport extreme router)? If so, any thoughts on how to solve? Thanks for your time in advance. CC

I've called Sonos Tech Support about 8 times and cant get anyone to answer the phone. Every call begins with a recording that there is "high call volume, with a 30 minute wait" I've never been so frustrated with a product and wish i could return it for another wireless speaker brand. I recently waited for 30 minutes and then got disconnected!!! Such a waste of the amount of hours spent on this speaker. Im actually thinking of tossing into the NYC East River and recording it and posting it all over the web. Such poor customer service! Anyone else have this problem?

I just set-up my play 1 with a bridge and connected it to a nas as a music source. It appears that all my songs are playing faster than they should, and the pitch is higher. What could be causing this?

When i rotate my Sonos play:5 to vertical position my impression is that the side tweeters stops and the power adds to the central tweeter. Is this impression correct? Also it would be very useful to see the eq treble bass on first screen and not navigate through the menu. Thanks a lot!

Hi! I got the new Play 5 a week ago. It feels like a quality product, but I am struggling a bit with the EQ-settings. First I ran Trueplay and there was a clear improvement. (Less hall/cathedral sound). Without Loudness it sounds pale. It's like the mids (voices) are a bit muted and the whole sound stage is not impressive at all. I usually disable Loudness on speaker systems, so this was a surprise. Everything comes more alive with Loudness set to on. The problem with Loudness brings sibilance to the trebles. I'm quite sensitive to sharp treble sounds, so I manually adjusted the trebles 3 steps lower. If I lower it even more, the total sound image gets destroyed. The trebles alone were ok without Loudness, but the mids were not at all + bad sound stage. Am I missing something here. Do you agree that it sounds "dead" /boring without Loudness? And that the Loudness brings sibilance to the trebles? Do you manually adjust the EQ?

Is Sonos Play:5 line in bypass the d/a converter of Sonos or the incoming analog signal is converted to digital/analog signal from Sonos and then goes to the speakers?

Suddenly, ALL the audio output from my IPad with IOS 11 is being played through my Sonos Play 1. Previously only music streamed from Spotify came through on the Sonos. Anyone know how to revert to the only Spotify arrangement? Thanks

I have a Play One that I would like to take to a new location to see if I have wifi coverage before adding another speaker. Can I just move it and use its current name on the app or do I have to reprogram it after the test move? It's just temporary for the reception test. It will go back to original location.

I’ve submitted a diagnostic 1113111930. I keep hearing a popping sound from the surround speakers. I’ve read many posts but there seems to be no solid resolution.

Just added a Player 1 and updated my system. Now nothing works. System recognises speakers but I can't play anything. Rebooted as per instructions in other posts but no luck.

I have bought a Connect Amp and connected it to a Pioneer DJM mixer (and two turntables) by RCA phono cables, and then grouped it in the same room with 2x Play1s, a Playbar and Sub but the sounds keeps cutting in and out. I've also then added the Kitchen Play 1 into the group and that cuts out too. I've checked the output of the mixer through the headphones and that seems fine. Any thoughts on what I can check?

Alexa echo dot 2 and Sonos One hate each other

1. People talk about an app call Yonomi, which I do not use, because I don't want too many 3rd parties having access to my smart home. 2. Then there's the Samsung Smart home integration. 3. If you have a Lutron Caseta hub already, you can easily create scenes for every function of Sonos which I have done. And then control those thru IFTTT and use specific phrases like, "Hey Google, Play Death Cab, Kitchen" short, simple and not adding a bunch of crud. Then I got to thinking, I don't want to use IFTTT, because I used this in the early stages IFTTT and results were finicky, but now they are pretty solid. 4. Now if you're a programmer with a raspberry pi, you can easily get the node-sonos api on GitHub and basically have a awesome set of features that have existed and people have asked for a long time ago. Hi all, Excuse the newbie question... I have (only) a 1st gen Play 5 currently, and am looking to upgrade my sound to include 2x Play 1's OR 2x Sonos One's, to use as rear left and rights or front left and rights for movies/music etc, and just generally on their own as a pair occasionally. My question is simple: Can the 1st gen Play 5 act as the central main speaker &, MOST IMPORTANTLY: the wireless communicator to the 2 Play 1's/ONE's in a group with all 3? Also, could the 2x Play 1's/ONE'S be paired together for L & R sound in this overall '3' setup? Thanks very much, Mark

I need to purchase a replacement 3" mid-range speaker for my Sonos Play:5. Please help.

I bought two Sonos 3 today. One box is from 2025, other from 2017. They said they were same in the store. Does anyone know if there were any generation changes to the Sonos 3 in the last couple of years?

Request if Sonos wireless headphones might be considered for the development team. These can be very useful when needing to run the system in privacy...i.e..late at night when working or studying so as not to disturb others in the household or office.
