Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Now I tried Homepods for a day, cant be compared to Sonos at all. So it seems I am sticking arround a while. Its crazy no one has copied Sonos.

They can’t copy, Sonos will sue them.

I haven’t gone into the detail that other users have with functionality. The core functionality of the new app in (a) recognising both of my speakers at the same time, (b) playing the music I want, when I want it, and (c) playing music at the volume I want and being able to turn it off altogether when I need silence, were all failing.

I have chosen to delete the app so I currently have no controller for my speakers, which are moving incrementally closer to eBay where they will no doubt by now be worthless.

Surely the first step here is to at the very least perform a total roll back on this deeply flawed version to allow users access to their systems whilst Sonos regroups?

Meanwhile, Sonos’s share price slides daily…

I am unable to play the FLAC files from the local Plex server via the mobile, Windows or web app while I am able to play MP3 files from the local Plex server which is hilarious so I am considering selling my Sonos speakers and buying an ordinary Hi-Fi equipment instead

I HOPE YOU’RE LISTENING SONOS, WE’RE FED UP.

So frustrating that we all have spent so much on Sonos devices and they can break it with a new app.   I filed claims for my Sonos purchases and hope to be reimbursed to buy Sony, Bose or something else.

Any news ? what’s the plan now ? When will local library/playlists be playable again ?

My +20’000 tracks preciously recorded, copied, encoded, renamed, folded won’t wait much longer … I’m left with Spotify and online radio and one “bricked” speaker (Roam) and this is ashaming. What I really don’t get it seems PC win version remained more or less ok, they just destoyed the Android (and obviously iOS) apps.

The roadmap is here

There was a countdown in this email but it's ended early even though the new product isn't due to be launched for another 5 hours!

When Sonos can't even code a countdown timer correctly is it any wonder the new app is such a failure?!

The new app looks great, but it’s functionally terrible!

You can no longer edit the queue. Can’t “play next” can’t reorder the queue or even remove songs in the queue.

what the actual duck?!!!

I do not think I have ever seen such a discrepancy in a dialogue of the deaf between, on the one hand, a marketing department going out of its way to praise a heavenly new application and, on the other, the hell that users are going through and no longer know how to make themselves heard. The height of hypocrisy, and one of the finest examples of selling dreams.

The update of the Sonos app is a disaster. The company Sonos would benefit from being more honest and transparent with its customers. The handling of this situation is catastrophic and only inflates the negative buzz around the brand. Sonos would gain so many points in terms of customer service and against other competitors by being more proactive in resolving the various problems it has created itself following the update of this app. Trueplay, which ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT WORK when managing multiple speakers in a surround configuration, is the perfect example ! And yet NO statement notifying this major problem and NO DATE for deploying a fix. SONOS, your loyal customers are watching you handle this disastrous situation, so PLEASE, do not take us for cash cows... do not spit in the face of those who make your reputation!  Act, communicate with your base !!!

The new Sonos app is a terrible piece of software development that has made my Sonos experience worse in so many ways that I have a hard time understanding why Sonos released it. Clearly this software did not get the testing required.  Issues since installing it:

• Took two tries and some research to re-establish my Sonos network.

• The app is unresponsive at times, or slow to respond at others.  Changing volume on different speakers is one area of slow response or non-response.  Yesterday, I couldn’t turn a set of speakers off with the app so, after multiple tries, my wife turned them off with her phone, which has the older version.

• After struggling to turn Sonos off, it randomly came on without initiation in one room late last night.  My sister, who was visiting, said she had had the same issue with the new app.

•When playing music on multiple speakers in different rooms, one speaker or another will cut out.  Sometimes, the speaker comes back on by itself - at other times, I have to choose the speakers again and “Apply” to re-establish a connection.

•I have a Brennan B2 that is set up as a storage device (NAS)that I could access via Sonos.  I could access this via Sonos on the old app, but this support is gone on the new one.  The Brennan community is not happy with this feature deprecation.

The interface is prettier but the functionality behind it is terrible.  I see that Sonos plans to fix some of these issues, but I don’t understand why the company released such a terrible version before it was ready.  Maybe my Sonos experience will improve as fixes roll-out, but for now my level of Sonos satisfaction has dropped from “Very Satisfied” to “Very Dissatisfied”.

What a surprise (not). It was all about the headphones. It very much looks like Sonos have chosen to trade their existing customer loyalty in order to launch a new product, which I’m guessing requires the new app as a prerequisite. Why on earth didn’t they just make the new app optional? I see the Play Store rating is now down to 1.1. I’m sure that will help sales of the headphones. Good luck.

This is what sonos about the planning (look under ‘available now’ and ‘Coming Soon’…. (And Hope they will indeed fix things up…)

I am sure a lot of loyal Sonos customers who would have eagerly bought the headphones will not now.  No one I know will ever buy a Sonos product unless Sonos somehow redeems themselves soon.   What a disaster of a laiunch and poor or zero response to fix it.

I guess we all learned our lesson and Sonos is going to face a major boycott of its headphones - at least until it gets its act together (if it ever does)…

You should spend less time on PR for this new app and more time ON MAKING THE APP ACTUALLY WORK!!!
Are you guys reading your support folders or the feedback from the forums???
THE NEW APP IS NOT WORKING!!!!

Across Android and iOS, different versions and device manufacturers - THE NEW APP IS CRASHING AND TRYING TO UPDATE IN A NEVER ENDING AND NEVER FUNCTIONING LOOP!!!

The new Sonos app is no good if you have a local music library. I could not figure out how, or even if, I could add my local music library with the new app. Even if it is possible, it is not intuitive; my local music library should simply be there when I update the app, and the fact that it does not automatically show up is a serious oversight by Sonos.

About 50% of my listening is from my local music library (i.e., a NAS device on my network), rather than using a streaming app, so this Sonos update was unusable.

I will use the old version of the app and will not update for as long as the local music library feature does not work better in the new app. If the new version of the app does not eventually automatically accommodate my local music library, I will be forced to eventually leave Sonos for another product, after many years of using it. It’s really too bad...I’ve been very happy with Sonos until this fiasco.

I’m also missing the music library. I’ve discovered that it’s the size of the library that’s the issue. When I connect my spouses’ smaller 4000-song library, it works. When I connect my 60,000-song library, it disappears. Both are on the same drive, so it’s not a network issue.

How many items are in your iTunes library?

I think the bigger your library the more time it takes for the app to show it on the ‘home page’ (together with the title / category “Your sources”). my 25,000 tracks library shows up only after 2-3 minutes…. (everything is slow, like the reaction to changing the volume of speakers etc. Amayzing how such a praised brand went so fast and so deep down the drain...). So I guess a larger library will take even more time to be ‘uploaded’ on to the app.  The controller app on my PC does not have this problem - the library shows up directly when launching the app (as it should!).

Of course we still have to wait for the seach function of the mobile app to be able to include the music library ….

I haven’t tested this fully yet but in the old app there seemed to be good synchronisation between my podcast app of choice, Pocket Casts, and Sonos. With the new app, if I return to playing a podcast episode which I am halfway through then it goes back to the beginning rather than carrying on from where I left off. I realise this is a small irritation compared to some of the more major deficiencies of the new app but it is frustrating.

It’s been a while now since this was forced on us, and still no apology or back track or customer service of any kind.

What sort of company is Sonos?

Yes @LazyBadger ! My thoughts exactly! What on earth are they thinking?

I have a really bad feeling that someone in the company saw the forecast on the matter “how much will it cost to make the new app compatible across generations” scratched his head and then made a deliberate decission knowing god damned well that the app would’nt work for hundreds of thousands loyal customers.

*(in relation tot the search function) I mean: to be able to use the serach function to search artists, albums and tracks in our own libraries instead of havind to scroll manually from A to Z through the many items of a collection….

They won't be issuing an apology either. There'll be articles about their new headphones on the usual tech sites, followed by an article about them issuing a public apology. Wouldn't look good from a PR standpoint. Basically, frustrated customers, including myself, have to suck it up.

My need is very simple - I just want to be able to ‘add to queue’ from stuff in my Music Library on my Mac as I have been doing for the last 15 years is that too much to ask.

I can find no way too achieve that on my Iphone 12 although I can still do it from my desktop ( for the moment !)

If anyone knows how to do this simple operation in iOS I’d be glaad to know how.

How do I get my music library back?
