Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Agree, there is clearly a Management Bonus attached to the 7th May.

And yes, very sad.  This issue completely overshadows the upcoming Headphone launch that I was looking forward to.  Now I won;t be going near them.

Also disappointing how few Sonos vloggers/YouTube “experts” are calling Sonos out for this.

The press coverage has been very weak over this - hardly critical at all.  How this impacts future sales is the most important point and will more likely cause Sonos grief than anything else.

I for one will never buy another Sonos device whatever solution they cobble together UNLESS they offer a full refund for existing devices.

😁😊😎

The alarm clock has been back since 80.00.08, but ....The alarm clock with a desired wake-up time of 6.30 only wakes up with a two-hour delay, at 8.30 am. Could it be that the current local time is not being used?

Overall, it’s a backward step imho. Simple steps like changing channels are a hop and a skip whereas it was a simple one click action before. It’s slower to respond/navigate/refresh and crashes or loses connection much more often now.  There may be features that I’ve not found, but if is clunkyer than before I’m more likely to use it less or stop using it completely than I am to go digging around to find them. Can I switch back to the previous version?

well, it might be a clue as to how bloggers & co earn some money ...

Read elsewhere people having a one hour delay on  alarms. Seems they put alarms back , but not bug free. No surprise.

Can people please stop posting that Sonos didn’t run a beta (there’s at least one post in this topic from a beta tester who confirmed they reported all the most common issues) or doesn’t know how to do software development.

I never saw that, i also asked if anyone here was a beta tester, can you remember what page was this on.

I’m reading through Sonos developer documentation, I think they need to heed some of their own advice.

Principles (sonos.com)

Here are a few excerpts from Sonos principles…

“Sonos strives to create simple, easy-to-use experiences that don't distract our users from their everyday lives.”

“It's important that your integration stays up to date, clearly presents the content that's playing, rooms in which it's playing, and volume level at which it's playing.”

“Response times in the Sonos system are important. We want our users to enjoy their music and content without needing to think about controlling technology. Slow response times are unsettling. They force users to take their attention away from what they care about (their music, an activity, their home life) and focus on the technology.”

“Sonos is a system that just works, predictably and reliably. Listeners don't want speakers to stop playing or rooms to be removed from groups unexpectedly.”

“Be user focused

Keep in mind that households are typically made up of different types of users with varying degrees of technical interest or know-how. Users will be interested in getting easy access to the capability or experience your product provides. Don't assume that they are interested in the underlying technology or want to spend time researching and learning.”

“Make sure that you test your integration with different types of users. Don't rely on your own experience to decide if something is easy to use.”

Tried using the Courageous app to play Tidal Tracks - useless without queue management.  Gave up and returned to the relative sanity of the native Tidal app. 😁😎🎶

The new web app doesn’t fit on the screen properly. Either the top is cut off, or the bottom.

@jay house

Might it be the browser zoom settings, or larger font size you perhaps have put in place?

The new web app doesn’t fit on the screen properly.

Of course it doesn't. Sonos just doesn't seem to get it right. Their new app really sucks, the web app is superfluous (who in his right mind would ever want to control his Sonos system from outside his house...) and my music library and my playlists are nowhere to be seen.

I’d tried that already thinking the same thing but makes no difference if I change it and it’s set to 100% anyway.

Oh agree 100%. It only makes sense as a fallback option running on one of the speakers locally to provide access from any device with a browser on your local network. Quite why they thought it necessary to put it in the cloud and provide out of home access to a home audio system that can only be heard when you’re in the home is anyone’s guess.

I was just trying it out to see the new layout, at some point I’ll have to bite the bullet and downgrade to the new app as one of my speakers is already on a different software version to the rest so can no longer be used unless via Bluetooth and I have a feeling updating it will update the rest to the current version and thus force use of the new app.

This app update is TERRIBLE.  After investing thousands in this system, having my Home Theater comprised of only Sonos, and Sonos throughout my home, and about to invest more $for some additional connectivity in other rooms…  this app update makes me want to start all over again with a different product!

The system never recognizes the connected components on app launch.  I have to relaunch it multiple times before it starts to “see”.  And an even bigger frustration is that only 5-10% of the time, can I get my home theater to connect to both the Beam/Sub combo and my L/R rear speakers.  I have the rears set up as a pair, separate from the Beam/Sub, since I have difficulty hearing some dialogue and need the capability of adjusting the rears so that I can hear.

This was TERRIBLE change.  Not to mention extremely disappointing.  That’s all I have to say.

The new web app doesn’t fit on the screen properly. Either the top is cut off, or the bottom.

It’s a web page, they are meant to scroll when the content overflows the area, there are tons of different screen sizes, so it will never fit perfectly on every monitor. It fits horizontally thankfully, so no scrolling side-to-side. Smaller icons would help with vertical scrolling.

I have 4 Sonos units.  The new App works fine from my iPhone.  I have tried both iPad Apps on my new iPad and all I get a a message saying can’t find  Sonos on my WiFi.  I can see all 4 of my Sonos speakers are connected to my WiFi.

I have rebooted the world and reinstalled the App.  I have been on hold for 34 minutes -- the system said 5 minutes for help.

Sorry but that’s not correct. The content on the page does scroll but the play bar at the bottom is supposed to be fixed to the bottom of the screen, easy to do with css, but looks like the calculations are wrong in this case. It’s still fixed to the bottom of the screen but outside the actual screen dimensions and can’t be scrolled in to view.

WOT NO ADD TO QUEUE??

This update on the new app seems to suggest that this all-new version 80.0 of the app has removed ‘Add to queue’ functionality:

https://support.sonos.com/en-gb/article/add-tracks-to-the-queue

Surely that can’t be true?

Something as basic and fundamental as being able to queue up a load of music has now been removed?

The only option I can see is ‘Replace queue’ which isn’t very helpful if you’re in the middle of listening to something and want to pre-load what comes next.

Abysmal, unnecessary update.

Surely that can’t be true?

LOL it’s gone. Don’t worry it’ll come back and maybe it will work.

My Sonos Web App desktop saved shortcut always opens with the browser toolbar auto-hidden, so I see the ‘floating’ mini-player here on my iPad…

So perhaps try hiding that toolbar and save the shortcut and see if that perhaps resolves the issue for you @jay house.

I'm starting to suspect that You have been singled out for a specially All Dancin' & Enhanced version of the update  😂🤣😍😊👍😁☺️❤️

Why on earth would you ever think that @castalla? - I’m missing the exact same features as the next person here. Here’s the screen where the ‘play next’ - ‘add to end of queue’ etc, are not yet in the App.

If you look close you’ll see my Home Screen display in the background…

And here’s the screenshot from Sonos.com that shows what we’re ALL missing…

So no (sadly) there’s no special enhanced Sonos App here… but hopefully such an App is coming soon for every Sonos user.🤞

@castalla,
This is a screenshot from my iPad Sonos App, you can maybe use as a comparison too. Taken moments ago (UK time).
