Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.
Home Screen
The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.
The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.
100+ streaming services, one Home screen
The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.
Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs —the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.
Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.
The new Web App
The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Just downloaded the latest Sonos app for Mac OS. And most of the features missing on Mobile/Tablette (Android/IOS) that are really useful are present.
Sleep/Alarm
Source Personnel Library with the capability to play a whole Folder or Sub-folder, in Shuffle or not, are present.
Update Music Library
Wondering How come Mobile app take so long to have those important features?
On my IOS tablette or Android Mobile, I’m still trying to get my personnel library. It appears once in a while.
On Mac the Version is 16.2
Latest update for iPad now has alarms, but no sleep feature that I can find.
Ok, just attended the AMA. How shall I put it: it was not exactly what I hoped for. A few answers not addressing the community feedback. Lots of text but not addressing the questions… I learned that we now have play.sonos.com. Just entering a username and password is sufficient to control your speakers in your home, that is gonna be fun in the nearby future with all those leaked userid’s/passwords flying around … How does this work? I’d like to block access from play.sonos.com to my network and speakers. I’v made a network trace in Wireshark but that takes a lot of time to decipher…. Anyone have a good tip?
Don’t care what anyone says I am not updating the application or firmware again my system works fine now.
I am replacing the lot later on and selling when the application finally works
¾ times I try to use the new Sonos App I get an error message and nothing plays! PLEASE bring back the old app or fix this soon. My Sonos system is now useless...
As far as I can tell, they have ruined the user experience. No add to queue option when searching??? Seems like they launched way too early. A devolution, sadly.
So let me get this straight. Once I ‘upgrade’ my entire home audio system is exposed to the internet, protected by just a password, enabled without telling me or with my consent and I can’t turn this off? What the hell are you smoking over there Sonos?
For what possible reason would anyone ever want or need to control music playback on their home audio system when they’re not actually in their home. This is more laughable than when Microsoft tried to make users be connected to the internet at all times when playing games off a disc. The backlash there quickly forced a rethink. Sonos need the same level of self awareness. App and firmware updates disabled for the foreseeable future here whilst I research competitor products to switch to.
Well, I get the “trying to connect, try again later” error message when trying to connect to a Roam. Contacted customer service, they’re telling me it has to do with my router. I told them that this error started when I downloaded the new app and not just with the Roam… so, whatever Sonos.
On top of that, on my iPad, I can’t switch rooms…
Lastly, the iPhone and iPad apps don’t sink… lol by this I mean I start music on the iPhone app but when I open the iPad app it’s like I didn’t start anything.
I've been with Sonos for the last 18 years. Admit it Sonos, this is a mess. And yes it does take courage to release an app. that is less than the previous one and with lots of bugs.

Hasn’t Sonos speakers always been exposed to the internet - how else do the online streaming music services get to play their audio to them?
I was really thrilled to hear that you guys were upgrading your app, But after downloading the new app, my excitement turned into frustration. I kept asking myself, “what the heck am I doing wrong, why won’t the new app find my SONOS move?” I spent the better part of a couple hours turning on, turning off, resetting my Move, deleting the app and trying again and again, resetting my router, etc. After none of the above did anything, I was ready to toss my Move into the trash. At least with the previous app I could at least use the speaker. Now my speaker is nothing more than a paperweight on my shelf that won’t do a damn thing (and the old app has been removed, so can’t even go back to it). At this point, I’m ready to trash my system and go buy a system that works-and cheaper as well. Will I ever be able to use my SONOS Move again??

Streaming a song is different than exposing your system to the internet with only password protection. They didn’t warn anyone. You can’t turn it off. They don’t support MFA which tbh is a big oversight.

Yep. Sonos needs to implement 2FA for the web portal at a minimum, and preferably the option to disable web portal login.
I updated to the latest iOS version yesterday. Perception is that it is faster / smoother than the earlier version.
And I’m a fan of the overall experience compared to the previous S2
New app never starts.
Sonos kit now useless.
Where do I sue?
With 80.00.08 app, I can now add / modify Alarms but they are not triggered at the said time either with Sonos Chime or Playlist.
Has anyone met the same issue ?

I’m all for improved security like the next person, but even most WiFi networks are just protected with a (broadcasted) SSID name and password only too - so I’m not going to lose sleep over access using the SMAPi - it’s been in situ for a long time anyway. If someone gets in and begins playback on my devices, before changing my credentials, I will of course checkout their taste in music. Two-PWA is fine - I’d be happy to authorise on my device, but I think I might soon get fed up and switch it off if I’m regularly accessing my setup from a PC, using the Web App.
The point for me really here is that a web app is an ok idea, if for some reason you have a device that you can’t install the proper controller app on, but there’s still only a need for it to run on your local network. Why expose it on the internet and have it running in the cloud. I can’t think of a single use case where I’d want to control the music in my house when I’m not there to hear it so why introduce the security risk?

Sonos people think of everything: they want to make it possible for you to put some music on at home when you are in Ouagadougou so that you can calm down the dog, cat, fish or … kid you mistakenly left behind.

Ha ha. Another use case I thought of was that you throw a party in your house then decide not to attend yourself but still insist that your guests listen to the music you choose.
I have a fairly locked down work laptop, which blocks the Windows desktop controller, or at least sets my home “private” network to “public”, blocking some connections. The new web app gets around this nicely.
Well, after spending over an hour with the Sonos chat people last night about my Roam not connecting issue and them telling me it’s a modem issue and to call them tomorrow, I see that my Roam is connected this morning but only if I click the speaker in the “now playing” and then clicking view my system. On that screen I have all my speakers and the Roam is connected and working. The only issue is I can’t group speakers… lol
And this is after insisting with them that this started with the new app.

Choose any room in the slide-up ‘room-selector’ screen to first set a room as the Group co-ordinator and then either…
Select the speakers icon next to the play/pause button to see the ‘group rooms’ screen
Whilst in a rooms ‘Now Playing’ screen select the bottom centre ‘speakers’ icon to popup the group-rooms screen.
Then select rooms to group and select their volume level etc. See below screenshot (example) from my iPad Sonos controller App. YMMV slightly.

I just realized that the Alarm is triggered 1h later than the set time… Alarm set at 7am → it rings at 8am :(
I got the support over phone and they confirmed that it is a known issue that will be resolved (hopefully) with next app/firmware release
