A few notes about Local Music Library Functionality

Fixes for all of the following issues will be addressed in future updates.

We appreciate your patience!

  • After adding/removing a share, there can be a delay during reindexing where it’s not clear that Music Library indexing is happening, and some leftover elements of a removed share can still show up during reindexing. Be patient - it is in fact, still indexing.
  • Music Library Search is not accessible in the controller without access to the Internet.
  • Local Music Library will not work for alarms.

Additional things to consider specifically on Android:

  • The “More” menu, Play Now and Play Next options may fail with "something went wrong" for local library content. Local Music Library albums are also currently unable to be favorited.
  • - When a new library share is added, it doesn't appear in the music library settings page. The share does appear if you dive into Music Library > Folders. It may appear if the share disappears after closing/reopening the app, but the share is successfully added.

Things to consider specifically on iOS:

  • No album art of Albums in Sonos Favorites

I appreciate the advice. I’ve read all of the help articles, and gone through chat help. I have gone over the settings a dozen times and cannot get it to work. Because I cannot get anyone live, I cannot have them troubleshoot the issue.

Have you checked your Mac is using SMBv2 or higher?… I’m not a Mac user myself, but I did a search and came across these links:

Thank you - yes, I went through all of the help files I could find and checked my system.

I still find volume changes to be terribly slow sometimes along with the other known and verified issues. I don’t know if I’m sending the volume request off to a lazy cloud bot or what, but I can switch to SonoPhone and volume changes are immediate.  More of the “great new app” with subpar architecture. 🤔🙄

One has to wonder what the real timeline is for getting this app / architecture to be anywhere near as good as the old app / architecture.  Obviously, the pie in the sky timeline for fixes they set out just after the debacle is toast.  I’m not confident SONOS will ever work as well as it used to - or maybe to do so requires newer hardware and bricking what we have now again.

Agreed. The software was always glitchy and not very intuitive, but useable. If I have to buy new equipment because of this, it will not be Sonos. I hope they realize the damage they have done to their reputation. The CEO’s open letter was hollow. I do not believe they learned anything. Maybe new customers will come along, but they have alienated so many of their decades-old customers.

When I first installed the new Sonos App, I saw some sluggish volume control issues. I have 25 Sonos products over 10+ ‘rooms’ - I assumed that like the older S2 App, things are perhaps as slow as the connection to the most difficult-to-reach player. So what I did was check my devices SNR levels in the Sonos App, as mentioned in this Sonos support link:

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/understanding-the-network-details-section-in-the-sonos-app

I also moved my Sonos players (where applicable/available) over to the local routers faster 5Ghz WiFi band and that really helped to improve things. That said, I do also have a reasonably fast internet connection aswell (1Gig d/l & 100MB/s u/l) so that quite possibly assists with these things aswell.

Anyhow, making the changes to the SNR so that ALL products were set to 45dB (or higher) level, seemed to greatly improve things and I’ve not had issues with volume control since doing those early changes…

Agree as well. Have no issues with the UI, seems like an improvement actually. But overall my system is not reliable, slow to respond and sometimes just disappears. I’m done buying Sonos, just not worth it.

Since this update, I no longer see my system and cannot add any of my products. I have around £2,000 of products that are now completely unusable. When I try to get support on the phone, I’m told the waiting time is 85 minutes. It’s an absolute disgrace and I am beyond furious. I feel completely abandoned by Sonos and powerless to do anything about it. I hope all those involved in this fiasco are fired, right after they fix the problems that they have caused.

Just to add my 2 cents as a 15+ year Sonos user:

When can I play / add folders from my Music Library to the queue? (Android App)

Using folders to navigate my NAS is my primary use. Browsing by Genre and the  queue multiple albums is my main Sonos usage, which is heavily crippled now for several months.

I am still hopefull this feature is added in the coming months, as it was one of the main functions of Sonos when is started (with the ZP90).

Fun fact: this feature does work in the Windows Desktop app 😬

Sounds like you perhaps need to change the folder/files sharing protocol - the new Sonos App uses SMBv2 shares only.

Maybe I wasn't 100% percent clear :P
I can perfectly Browse and Play albums from my Music Library.

However, I mainly browse my collection by Folder (organised by genre), and this section is heaviliy crippled. For example, you cannot use the ❤ dot> menu to add a complete folder to your queue (or play a Folder with all its sub-folders)

Effectively, this only let's you play 1 album, when it ends, you have to start a new one (much like a CD or LP :P)

Ah I see, sorry I misunderstood your post. 🙏 Yes I’d like to be able to do this too. 👍

Morning all...Just wondering if it’s safe to update my system yet. still running 16.2 on my computer and my phone. Still have some issues such as not finding all my speakers right away, but not as bad as with the original update...thanks in advance!

If you use a local music library and have a lot of compilation albums, I would avoid the speaker firmware as this has an indexing bug from 16.3 on… I don’t know if the last app will try and force an update.

If you don’t use a local library it may be worth a try.

Help.  I cannot access my music library on my iMac.  Nothing seems to work!

Are Sonos doing something to fix the problem?

A few months ago I spent about an hour on the telephone to the help desk and they were unable to solve the problem!

So it has never worked with the new app? Does your library reside on a PC or a NAS? The latter could be SMBv1 only that Sonos stopped supporting around the time the new app appeared.

Is queue editing ever coming back to the Android app? I see you've added it to the last iOS update. Can you please. PLEASE. Please, add it to the Android app again…

It's been 4 frustrating months.

Sonos. What a shambles. The app is really poor. The ability not to be able to play files stored locally on the network is simply unacceptable.

Sonos. What a shambles. The app is really poor. The ability not to be able to play files stored locally on the network is simply unacceptable.

I am able to play music tracks, albums, playlists etc. stored locally on the network. Just share the local library using SMBv2, or higher, as outlined in this Sonos support link…

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/add-your-music-library-to-sonos

It works fine here.

I can now add my library to the SONOS IOS 18 app (//Computer/dir/dir…), but am still unable to access this library from any of my speakers/systems. If I have music in the queue, I can delete it, but then I am unable to add any music to the speaker/system.

All I get is :- Not supported on this source.

(…) gives me Crossfade and Sleeptimer, but no access to the library to add music.

I am able to add music from the library via the Windows 11 old app, which it keeps telling me to update… NO WAY!

The music then appears in the IOS18 app (iPhone,iPad), but you can’t do anything with it except play or delete!

Android 80.09.04 installed today (24/9)

Struggling to see what's different operationally on EXISTING features, i. e. tried swiping to edit queue (as you can now on 80.09.05 iOS).

A cursory glance through menu revealed voice assistants and airplay...

Still no editing/deletion/creation in playlists/favs, so still Windows app dependent for that. No album art from local library... even iOS has thumbnails…

Additional comments...

My Boost has gone missing, disappeared after May 80.xx.xx update then returned about three updates later… can delete Favs, saved Albums, Artists, and the few Sonos Playlists that will show (first 20 or so and they appear under Sonos Favs after 1 min or so), see thumbnails from Amazon on Sonos Playlists, but no album art yet.

Given difference to what can do on iphone/ipad android is not keeping up with functionality and library editing and creating my listening experience nowhere near.

However, the responsiveness IS improving with each version.

RE: Connect and Access

All:

I absolutely hate to say this but Sonos needs to do something about this app accessibility/control issue before there is a class action lawsuit.

It seems like thousands of users are having the same difficulty with replacing a phone or computer (or even just letting a few months go by on the same computer) and suddenly you have no control over your system and when you try to sign on you get into a loop of sign in between the sales side and access on your phone/computer.

What good is a system if you can’t use it?

This started with me just wanting to hook up a turntable to listen to David Gilmour’s new album.  I’ve signed in five times and still cannot get any recognition between corporate account and sign in on the actual app.. I’ve tried with the Mac IOS and PC apps.  No luck.

The only way when this gets fixed is to get my installer, who’s 50 miles away, can get here and I spend $500 to have him reset everything.

So now I’m $2000 into my system just to get it to work.  When it works its great… of course no one else in my family can figure it out but….

I have 12 Sonos components spread over four rooms.  They don’t work most of the time, well, they turn on but forget controlling them as a system.  And where in the owner’s manual does it say, “you are required to spend four hours periodically to reset everything and use this system.“?

I only need four other customers and we can do something ,then everybody on these threads can join to get some satisfaction.  I’m sick of it and will go it alone if I have to.   (yeah, I’m an attorney but not the kind you see on TV or billboards).

That’s where I am on this control/connectability issue.  These manufacturers and dealers are all about ease of operation while they are selling you stuff.

‘Not so much once they have your money.

I hope they react… but they won’t except an email telling me “it’s so simple”
