I’ve seen it said a couple times by Sonos, so I don’t think it’s a mistake.  It is actually pretty similar to the Move as well.  As far as whether that range is acceptable, it obviously depends on where you live.  Where I’m at in Texas, we can get over 95 F pretty frequently in the summer, so it could be a problem, or at least I would need to try in place it in a shaded area.

I see little benefit by having 802.11ac since compressed audio streaming doesn’t utilize much bandwidth, but in the future the network hardware will be crucial to new features, glad to see Sonos forced to make the move, as many other speaker manufacturers have already specified 802.11ac since 2019.

No, they cannot be used as surrounds in a Sonos system

Sounds interesting; presumably it can left always on charge when used in the home, leaving the battery fully charged for taking away at short notice whenever needed?

It would be interesting to see a listening test of a stereo pair properly set up and with true play done, to see if these can work as the prime system in the home. With the Sub added - and assuming that the Sub bonds to the pair.  And I assume that stereo pairing will automatically happen if a unit is returned to its place in the home after portable use.

If it sounds any where close to a play 1 pair, this is a nice addition that eliminates the need for another make portable for travel needs.

If you stereo pair them I guess it wont be as portable anymore, at least not over wifi. As one is moved from its place the pair needs to be manually unpaired.

Yes, but it should be that any one from the pair can be taken away for portable/on the road use when needed, and when replaced it ought to revert to being part of the stereo pair. Lot more convenient that way for double use.

Will Sonos bring the great Sonos Radio service to the Sonos Roam speaker Ussing bluetooth when away from home?

This would also be fantastisk to give Sonos costumers support for Android Auto with Sonos Radio in the Sonos controller app - and even better with all the same services that we have at home in one Sonos experience.

Will Roam connect to more than one WiFi (remember several SSIDs)?

beneficial if you have friends around who are not on your network. (I.e all visitors using a guest network in my place). So they can connect to the speaker via Bluetooth and can stream music. Other example would be that they are on your network but don’t have the Sonos app installed and not owning and iOS device to use airplay. 

I would love to use sonos radio on the go!

I pre-ordered one,in Black yesterday….Currently,I have a pair of Play 5’s(gen 2) coupled with the sub and the sound is wildly good.I am hopeful that adding the Roam,behind the listening position will enhance the rear ambience effect.

I don’t want a pair,but if the dispersion is good and it is about 6-8 feet behind my seat,it should be quite interesting to hear it’s effects on music, like Peter Gabriel’s Biko and In Your Eyes(from the live performances...very dynamic stuff)…..Looking for some additional imersiveness,not that it’s not quite satisfactory already….Pumped-:)

Yes, Roam (and all other Sonos S2 compatible products) can remember up to 16 SSIDs.

Roam does not bond to a Sub - either on its own or in a stereo pair.

Hi James, are you able to explain the difference between ‘sleep mode’ and “on but not in use”? 

I understand Roam automatically falls into sleep mode, so what situation would keep the speaker awake when not in use?

That is a pity; I suspect that if it did, the outcome would be as good as many budget stereo set ups, with the added flexibility of roaming.

Apologies for the delay! When the Sonos Roam is in Bluetooth mode and connected to a device it will not go into automatic sleep mode. It will, however, go into sleep mode when in WiFi mode and left to idle for a few minutes. So “On but not in use” would relate to a situation where the Roam is connected via Bluetooth to a device but not playing any audio.

Can I group the Roam with 2 speakers connected to Amp?  I have two outdoor wall-mounted speakers connected to Amp in my garden and am trying to understand if I can have a Roam (or two) to boost the sound in the garden (assuming they’re within wifi range).  Would a pair match the L-R sound of the wall-mounted speakers?

@Blindside The Roam will be set up in a different “room” as the Amp, but they can all be grouped together to play the same music.

Yes, a stereo pair of Roams would match the L/R sound of the wall-mounted speakers connected to the Amp.

And in the S2 app, you can save a group that includes the Amp and Roams so you don’t have to manually group them every time you use them together.

Does ROAM have an earplug or method to attach headphones? if not, don’t wait another day to get us a method to add earplugs or headphones to SONOS, please.
