Hey everybody! There’s a new Sonos App update available today with a few minor changes, primarily focused around the new Improved Navigation experience

I quickly want to take a moment to introduce myself. I’m Andrew, I’ve been with Sonos for over 12 years, and have been working alongside Keith, Atom, Shaun and Liz for some time now. You’ll see me around here, but feel free to reach out!

Alrighty, back to the update: this is a minor one and is part of our recurring update schedule. It provides bug fixes and some tactical improvements in our continued efforts to drive the Sonos App experience forward. Our new navigation experience is still available behind the ‘Enable Improved Navigation’ toggle in Settings.

I want to thank everyone who’s already opted in, and invite everyone else to give it a try! We’ll continue to track usage and collect feedback, and will ship more updates and improvements before making this experience the default for all users. If you have feedback, let us know!

App Update Details

iOS: 87.01.7

Android: 87.01.8

Player Update Details

Modern Players: 96.0-79160

Legacy Players: 86.8.78270

Sigh, while I have the 87.00.38 version on my Android phone (Samsung S25 Ultra) the improved navigation option still hasn't appeared there yet and here we are on a new release.

Not in the Play store for me this morning so I'm guessing this will be a rolling release and will also have delayed activation of some features once it is available/downloaded?

Something weird is happening. One of my surrounds, era 100, which is my right surround just refuses to update. All of my other setups have successfully updated, Arc Ultra, Sub 4, the other Era 100 which is left surround all updated without issue, only this one Era 100 right surround is left hanging. I’ve tried unplugging all of the products, and still, refuses to update. All of my products are wired in, and SonosNet turned off. Any ideas why?

Since it is a surround you might try a network refresh and see if it helps.

Power down all Sonos, reboot the router and controller then power the Sonos back up.

On wiring all, how is that working for the Era surrounds and Sub? I used to have my older surrounds and Sub wired but got conflicts with the 5 gHz HT link and was advised to go Wi-Fi only for them.

Hmm...that’s strange as I’m running the same version on my Android Tab A9+ and have the Improved Navigation enabled. Also, the most recent update is available to me in the Play Store. Although it could very well be a roll-out sequence.

It would be nice if Sonos could share a bit of their phased roll-out data in a format such as below:

  • Country > Regional

For myself and @Stanley_4 it might be:

United States by Time Zone

  • PST
  • MST
  • CST
  • EST

I realize that the Time Zones extend into other countries but it might call for investigation under certain parameters. For example, if anyone in a respective zone has not received the roll-out and others have it may indicate a deeper issue that warrants investigation. Just a thought as the complexities to provide such data may be more involved than I imagine.

On the last update: My tablets all have it available, only the phone is lacking. I kinda hoped to get it active before the next update is available to me.

On this update: My usual place in the rollout queue is close to the two week tail for downloading, not expecting it sooner.

It would be nice to have some idea of when the download will be available and when feature activation will happen but that is likely difficult to provide or even explain.

I don’t know what you mean by “All products are Wired-In” be that as it may try the following:

EDIT: Try @Stanley_4 suggestion first

First Step:

  • Unplug the soundbar for 30 seconds and then plug it in.
  • Allow it to come back and reestablish communication with the surrounds.
  • Test connection be playing music.
  • Run the update again
  • If no joy proceed to Step 2

Step 2

  • Remove the Era 100’s as surrounds
  • Make sure they revert back to individual rooms (if not factory reset them and set them up as individual rooms) *
  • Add then as surrounds again
  • Test connection by playing music
  • Run the update; if needed
  • If no success run a diagnostic, make note of the reference ID (do not post it in the community) and call Sonos Tech Support to review the data

 * Factory Reset may force the update

Hey Stanley, our rollout is at 100% so if the app hasn’t updated, check DNS blockers like Pi-Hole and firewalls. These filters stop the feature flag from registering in-app. Pausing the filter, restarting the app, and then re-enabling the filter has worked for other folks who have contacted Support.

Pretty sure my filters are good, 3 tablets here updated with no issues but easy enough to check.

Tried the filter disable, no change. Tried a network refresh and no change.

What finally worked (maybe with the refresh) was deleting and reinstalling the app. The toggle was there once it opened.

Thanks for the status update and suggestions, now I just have to wait for this update to land here.

Any info on what was refined?

That would be nice to know. The only thing I’ve noticed is that it looks like it remembers which room was last selected. The previous update didn’t always.

Man, I was hoping that the filter was the issue. I’m sorry that you had to reinstall the app and thank you for reporting back what worked. I’ll pass this on to our team for anyone else who has issues accessing the new features!

This update broke my Mac Controller. Running latest version of Tahoe. After update, app asks me to connect my existing system but can’t find it and just keeps saying “try again”. I can do anything else in the app on the Mac at the moment.

S1 or S2 system? There was an iOS update, and a firmware update that I applied, no update to my S2 system on my Mac (M1 chipset) MacOS (not web) controller, and it is running just fine, no issues whatsoever. Playing and controlling on my Sonos as we speak.

Have you called Sonos Support to discuss it?

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

There was a macOS Tahoe update released yesterday. It may have messed up the local network settings, a frequent occurrence. In macOS go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and toggle the setting for Sonos off, wait a few seconds, and then back on.

Interesting. I didn’t have that issue with my machine, but Apple is squirrely with that setting, wonder if it has to do with the machine.

  • July 29, 2026

I didn’t have it happen here this time. But it has happened before. Worth a try.

The improved navigation is so much better! A relatively minor change to layout/navigation and the app is much easier, quicker and more intuitive to use. As someone who went through the pain of the original app update (*shudders*), we're now getting the app that should have been implemented from the start. Thanks to Sonos for acknowledging the screw up and working to resolve.

Well, that’s not true. It still doesn’t always remember the previous room selected in the app. Sorry for the false information.

Why is there almost never any update info on system changes versus app changes?
