โ€‹@Liz P.ย

Thanks for the heads up! I donโ€™t use SonosNet (wired) as my Sonos products would ignore it anyway. However for those that do will disengaging the SonosNet via toggle allow all products to seamlesslyย switch over to Home WiFi like a light switch engaging and dis-engaging power to a light bulb?

Hey! Not 100% sure, but Iโ€™ll bring this question to the engineers and get some more details.ย

Just a further deep dive. I was thinking potential problems with stand alone speakers not part of a home theater as speakers part of a HT are being directed by the soundbar. As far as sound bars are concerned Iโ€™d look at the Playbar and Playbase.

For stand alone speakers Iโ€™d possibly be looking at those that are pre Sonos One (gen 2); if that makes sense.

Thanks for your efforts to research this further ๐Ÿ˜Š

Just to be sure, SonosNet disabled also means no more broadcast storms? So I could also connect any number of speakers without my Unifi network being punished?

Iโ€™d be so happy if thatโ€™d true be :)

The word โ€˜Sonosnetโ€™ actually means very little to most Sonos users I'd say.

To make a feature of allowing to disable it should have lots more information of what this actually means, especially to the more knowledgeable users here often providing help.

If users have a system with a component connected with a cable and they disable it, what happens? Etc. etcโ€ฆ. If it knows WiFi details is it all OK or not? What if it doesn't?ย  Does it give a warning?

@sjw I had hoped for some info from Sonos, even just a couple bulletย points with advice to ensure a smooth transition away from Sonosnet. I must learn to set my expectations much lower.ย

Some of us intend to fiddle with the new setting, but can't until it becomes available on our systems.

Once it is we may see answers to a lot of the questions as we have many of the same ones.

That is already discussed multiple times in this topic.

See rolling release.ย

Itโ€™s a phased rollout as described in the announcement. See this comment as well:

Is it This update that enabled full screen album art display on iPad? ย It could have been there before but Iโ€™m sure Iย would have noticed.ย

It was the update prior to this one.

It broke my setup

Can't update a number of speakers on Wi-Fi and 2 of 3 connects which are wired.

Was working perfectly fine before this "update"

Itโ€™s probably more to do with wifi/network issues post an update. Duplication of ip addresses etc.ย

See if turning off all your Sonos kit then restart your routers snd once running again power up the Sonos items.ย
If this update caused widespread issues there would be a siege of complaints

The disable Sonosnet flag became available on my system today so I decided to go ahead with disabling it.
ย

I haveย a Sonos amp wired + sub and surrounds and 8 other Sonos products on Sonosnet around my house.ย
ย

I added my 2.4 and 5ghz wifi credentials to the app.ย
ย

I ran a firmware update just in case (good thing as one speaker was not updated for some reason).ย
ย

Ran the Sonosnet disable feature in the app. It took about a minute.ย
ย

I had a One Gen2 that disappeared from the app, rebooted it and it connected.ย

System information shows all speakers are on wifi.ย
ย

Very quick and other pretty much trouble free ย

Sad "feature not enabled yet" faceโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜ฟ

That is good news, hopefully this will help the folks that need the Ethernet link but struggle with Sonosnet.

Be nice for folks (like me) that just want Ethernet, for no good reason,ย asย Wi-Fi is working well.

Iโ€™m looking forward (so much!) to finally get a stable working Sonos network (mixed wifi and wired) for my 6 stereo sets and my UniFi network. Iโ€™ve been struggling since Iโ€™ve completed my setup a year ago with those stereo sets, and my Beam with surround speakers and mini sub. My, probably not so simple wish, is to use those 6 sets divided over 2 floors and stream Apple lossless and Plex flac music. Iโ€™ve tried SonosNet and wifi extensively, but alway end up with igmp and related problems.

85.01.4/95.0.70060 (android). Enabled 3rd June [UK] Small set up [3 rooms] - 2 x One SLs + Mini Sub/Five/Move.

Installed app update. Disabled Sonosnet and removed ethernet to one speaker (took off old Boost several months ago). All components show 'WiFi' now.

Slicker and quicker. Streaming services virtually instantaneous, local library better with each iteration... never going to be as good as streaming services as NAS is located two floors away from router and connected via mesh node (v.loud hdds), but not shabby at all.

After two years - system is improved beyond what landed in May '24, but I am v.aware my experience has perhaps better dueย to my fairly simple and limited set up and my early decision to use my laptop and Windows Desktop Controller saved me a lot of frustration.

Only request is that the hd and hi-res badges are reinstated for local library...ย

Over and out... for now.

I know some of you have had a good experience with this latest update but this company is losing a customer pretty fast.
My system was running perfectly fine until this update on May 27th and now have the stuff doesnโ€™t work anymore and before you tell me reboot this and unplug that, these steps have been done numerous times with various different speakers and all the same result.
I have been on the chat with 3 different agents and all the have done is repeated the same thing.

My hardware did not change, my network did not change, the variable is Sonos and this update.
If you canโ€™t get it correct then I would like to be able to revert back until you do.

This is pathetic for a system that cost as much as it does.

Iโ€™m sure you fanboys will come for this but I have been a customer for at least 8 years and went through all that S1 to S2 obsolete hardware thing. If that is what this is an attempt at then count me outโ€ฆ

The challenge is your network does change, all the time, based on outside influences. I agree the way youโ€™ve set up your network may not have changed, but thereโ€™s new firmware downloaded to your router frequently, and your Sonos system, when it reboots (as it does with most firmware releases, not necessarily with controller updates).ย

But your local network reacts to โ€˜outsideโ€™ influences, constantly, looking for optimized ways to connect to your devices, and any changes you might make, such as SSID, network, or authorizations.ย

The simple fact is sometimes Sonos requires a bit of help reconnecting. Because each device is its own computer, this can often be exposed more frequently, in addition to the need for each Sonos device to communicate with all of the others, something most network devices donโ€™t do.

If youโ€™d prefer a non-smart speaker system, you can always revert. But I suspect that Sonos will never set up a systemย to run older firmwares on them, theyโ€™d leave themselves open to legal lawsuits (much like people like Apple, Google, and Microsoft stop โ€˜signingโ€™ operating systems).ย

I feel for the difficulties youโ€™re experiencing. Iโ€™d urge you to both try what the three โ€˜agentsโ€™ suggested.ย

The only โ€˜obsoleteโ€™ hardware Iโ€™m aware of are the two remotes, and a 30 pin Apple connector. All audio producing devices are still supported, either by S1 or S2.ย

If this post about facts makes me a โ€˜fanboyโ€™, your post suggests a failure in recognition about what and how Sonos functions.ย

Just turned SonosNet off from my iPad. Wasnโ€™t using it though - only my Arc Ultra is connected by cable and thatโ€™s not Sonosnet capable. I retired the Boost last year.

Thanks Bruce

My point was, I did all the things the agent suggested and we are still broken.

I will have to figure out the direction to go and no I don't want S1 and S2 networks.

โ€‹@Wakblak, I donโ€™t see where you said what the problem you were experiencing was. But, if you would like community help with it, you should probably start a new thread. Include as much detail of the problem, sonos device, network setup etc as you can. Iโ€™m sure someone will have some thoughts.

If you havenโ€™t already submitted a diagnostic, maybe that would be the way to go. Although, it means contacting support again for them to review it. But it may include a clue as to whatโ€™s gone wrong.

I know some of you have had a good experience with this latest update but this company is losing a customer pretty fast.
My system was running perfectly fine until this update on May 27th and now have the stuff doesnโ€™t work anymore

That is always frustrating, making it worse are the majority of Sonos users that did the update with no issues.ย

I had similar bad results a few years back, every update was a nightmare, even a power failure could take my system down for hours to days. Support was helpful in getting things back to working but not in solving the underlying update/reboot issues that took it down.

Hopefully you got the advice to refresh the network by powering down ALL Sonos devices, rebooting router and controller, then powering the Sonos back up once the router wasย stable. For me that usually worked, might need a couple trys though.

What solved the issue was setting DHCP reserved addresses for all Sonos, followed by the refresh above. Depending on your DHCP server and version that may help or not be needed. Still worth a try as it only takes a few minutes and is faster to remove if unwanted and ineffective.ย

ย

The new software adds some handy information, once it is available to you and the internal options are enabled by Sonos (mine finally were this morning) that give you a lot more information on your Sonos networking setup.

It also adds the ability to disable the 2.4 gHz Sonosnet if you have any Ethernet connected Sonos. That option will force all Sonos to connect to your Wi-Fi instead of the Sonosnet that uses older technologies and isn't used inย  newer Sonos. Very different than the "disable wifi" option that turned off the whole radio, disconnecting Subs and Surrounds.

It would be nice if support, who can see internal data we users can't could escalate your issue, the more skilled level 2+ folks are very good and once reached helpful. Your multiple failed calls should justify the escalation.

Happy to say that the option to disable the SonosNet is now available on my iOS, iPadOS and Android devices. I had to delete and reinstall the latest iOS version of the app for it to be visible. I was able to disengage the SonosNet while streaming music with no interruptions. However, that was to be expected as I had no wired components.

All in all, disengaging the SonosNet was of little consequence to my Sonos system as I had migrated to โ€œWi-Fi onlyโ€ a few years ago. The major advantage for me is that under โ€œAbout Your Systemโ€ all main components show Wi-Fi as the connection with peripherals as 2.0 (surrounds and subs).

From a trouble shooting standpoint if oneโ€™s Sonos is Wi-Fi only (with SonosNet disengaged) and still experiencing drops and/or speakers disappearing; then IMO thereโ€™s a 99 percent probability there are network and/or configuration issues of some sort. Meaning blaming the Sonos App (update) as the โ€œgo-to causeโ€ should be secondary. Of course, barring any type of hardware failure.ย *

I hope Sonos later grants visibility (if possible) of connection status onย play.sonos.com.

ย * Does not excuse missing/altered features within the app that were previously available and/or have a negative impact on the UI.
