Hey all! We've got a new app update live for both iOS and Android β€” here's a quick breakdown of what's changed. Want the full history of what we've been up to? Check out our App Release Notes here and System (Player) Release Notes here.

Β

As always, this is a Phased Rollout β€” think of it like a wave; not everyone gets it at the same time. If you're on iOS and want to nudge it along, head to the App Store, pull down on your Account page (the one showing pending updates), and give it a refresh. That usually does the trick!Β Note that these features are also part of the Phased Rollout. Even if your app up to date you may not see the feature as available.

Β

What's New:

App Update

iOS β€” 85.01.2

Android β€” 85.01.4

  • In-app setting to enable or disable SonosNet - This will let you enable or disable SonosNet per household.Β
  • About My System Connection Type - The About My System page now shows how each Sonos product is connected to your network.

Got technical questions about any of these features? Drop them below β€” I'll be bringing them back to our engineering team for more detailed answers. πŸ‘‡

Β

SonosNet Q&A

What is SonosNet? SonosNet is Sonos' original dedicated wireless mesh network that lets your Sonos products talk to each other. Think of it like Sonos building its own private Wi-Fi just for your speakers β€” it was especially useful back when home Wi-Fi wasn't as reliable. A wired Sonos product acts as the bridge that keeps everything connected.

Should I disable SonosNet on my modern network? For most modern, high-speed routers, disabling SonosNet can actually help things run smoother. Newer routers use Wi-Fi technology that can sometimes conflict with SonosNet's mesh, so turning it off lets your system lean fully on your home network instead.

How do I disable SonosNet? Head to System Settings β†’ Networks β†’ Disable SonosNet in the Sonos app (version 85 or higher required).

Is turning off SonosNet the same as disabling Wi-Fi on one speaker? Not quite. Disabling Wi-Fi on a single speaker is a local change, while globally disabling SonosNet is a system-wide shift β€” it stops your entire Sonos system from trying to build its own internal mesh network. This can help resolve connectivity issues on more complex home network setups.

Β

As always, feedback is always welcome β€” good, bad, or in between. We genuinely read it all. πŸ™

Yea!

We can now have an Ethernet connected soundbar, with Surrounds and subs without having to fuss with Sonosnet.Β

This is a huge, and excellent change, thanks to all who supported getting it done.

Β

Off to check for the update and once I get it to plug in several Ethernet connections.Β

What is the difference between Connection Type: Home Theater 2.0 and Connection Type: Home Theater (wireless)?

What is the difference between Connection Type: Home Theater 2.0 and Connection Type: Home Theater (wireless)?

See here

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/check-if-sonos-is-in-a-wireless-or-wired-setup

Β

Home Theater (wireless)

SonosNet-capable home theater surround bonded to a SonosNet-capable home theater soundbar, wirelessly.

Ethernet-wiring a product in this mode will switch the household to SonosNet mode if SonosNet is not already active (and if SonosNet is not disabled).

Β

Home Theater (Ethernet)

SonosNet-capable home theater surround with an Ethernet cable connected, and is bonded to a SonosNet-capable home theater soundbar with SonosNet enabled in the household.

Unplugging the Ethernet cable from this product may cause a disruption in connectivity for the system and may also transition the household out of SonosNet mode.

Β

Home Theater 2.0

Non-SonosNet capable wireless surround (e.g. Era 300) or SonosNet-capable surround bonded to non-SonosNet soundbar (e.g. Arc Ultra). Read our article Choose between a wireless and wired Sonos setup for a list of products that don't support SonosNet.

My system does not show the connection type in β€œAbout your system”. The parameter Connection Type is just not there.

Latest app, mix of old and modern speakers, all wired.

Latest App doesn't mean much with the phased rollout policy. You need to post the actual version.

For example I'm on the latest version (available here) which is 85 00 31.

Latest released,Β  maybe not available to your yet:

App Update

iOS β€” 85.01.2

Android β€” 85.01.4

IOS 85.01.2. But probably the speaker firmware will need an update first. Currently atΒ 95.0-77060 and 86.7.77050.

@Liz P.Β

Thanks for the heads up! I don’t use SonosNet (wired) as my Sonos products would ignore it anyway. However for those that do will disengaging the SonosNet via toggle allow all products to seamlesslyΒ switch over to Home WiFi like a light switch engaging and dis-engaging power to a light bulb?

Since previous version 85.00.31, on android, podcast episodes from the service Pocket Casts are not shown in *saved* playlists.

They are still visible in the list of playing elements.

They can be added to a saved playlist, this playlist do contain them as playing that playlist put them in the currently playing list.

The saved playlist picture, generated from elements in it, correctly uses the pictures from the episodes in it.

But when viewing or modifying a saved playlist, theseΒ episodes are simply not shown.

A playlist containing a mix of episodes from the Pocket Casts service and elements from the music library only shows elements from the library.

Using the sonos app from an iphone on the same system is still showing the pocket casts episodes from a saved playlist. Tested with 85.00.31 (iOS), not yet with 85.01.2 (iOS), but let's hope that regression was not added too in that latest update.

Does this mean that we who have Unifi equipment, with SonosNet disabled, can finally mix wireless and wired speakers without the network going crazy?

I have Andriod 85.01.4 and iOS 85.01.2. The ability to turn offΒ  SonosNet and show Connection Type shows up on iOS, but not Andriod.

That’s the latest firmware currently. I show the new settings in iOS, but I don’t have any legacyΒ (86.7.77050) devices on that system. I don’t know if that makes a difference.

Probably should have copied the firmware version link from the first post too.

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/release-notes-sonos-system-updates

There doesn't seem to be a new firmware release.

Current system versionΒ 95.0-77060

Release date: 5/12/2026

Current legacy system versionΒ 86.7-77050

Release date: 5/12/2026

Once up to date, as the first post says:

Note that these features are also part of the Phased Rollout. Even if your app up to date you may not see the feature as available

Step 1 -- Get the App update. (Might be 2 weeks)Β

Step 2 -- Wait for Sonos to enable the newly downloaded features. (Might be another 2 weeks)Β

Step 3 -- Actually see and be able to use the new features.

If the current delay is less than 2 weeks for the last-guy update I'd love an update on that.

I think where the confusion for some is the lack of explanation regarding a Phased Rollout and how it works.

IMO For Sonos a Phased Rollout applies to those withΒ auto updates turned on for the app itself. Meaning that certain parts of the world will receive the auto- update via the appΒ in phases.

The update for iOS (as was mentioned by @Liz P.Β ) is already in the App Store. It’s my understanding that the app in the App Store is available immediately to everyone once the developer uploads it to the App Store server. Meaning no Phasing for availability. As point of proof I can download the update now (11:23 am_CDT).

EDITΒ

Regarding features being available after the app update such as the Toggle for SonosNet may require turning the feature on under β€œProfile > App Preferences”. I’m not homeΒ at the moment so I can’t verify my supposition.

I expect Sonos will be using App Store phased version rollout:

https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/update-your-app/release-a-version-update-in-phases/

As stated, can be overridden by refreshing App Store App, to get the latest version.

I’m guessing, once new version is installed, features can be enabled using their development platform, launchdarkly or similar using feature flags, using some policy/algorithm.

Even if you have the latest versionΒ installed, you wont necessarily get the latest features.

IIRC, some had different features on two different devices running same version a while back?

Β

Edit: Not lauchdarkly, but optimizely, see Corry’s comment here:

Patience is key.Β πŸ˜€

Dare I suggest an older option to deal with this process?

β€œlie back and think of England”

Which will hopefully survive moderator review, even if they spit tea on their keyboards?Β

Another update and more problems with connectivity.Β  1hr and 17 mins spent on the phonetic help line today, finally call handler said problems may be related to update, but blamed Internet provider. Can. Sonos ever accept responsibility for problems.Β  Bitterly regret buying sonos products.

Airgetlam

Yet I had no issues with the update. Which lends much credence to the idea that it could be local, in spite of your complaints.Β

Unfortunately, there just isn’t enough information provided to us in the public to help you, much as many of us want to.Β

A general network update helps many folks, by unplugging all Sonos from power, then rebooting the router. Wait two minutes before plugging back in all Sonos. This can help a plethora of issues, although not all.Β

Sonos isn’t always perfect, but certainly there’s been no systematic reports of issues beyond yours. I’m sorry you have had such a difficult time updating your system.Β

Just to add typically Sonos App updates install without a hitch. Common causes when they occurΒ can be outdated OS software and of course internet issues. Sometimes packets are missed which is an internet and/or local network issue.

Now regarding hardware (firmware updates). They too can be affected by internet/local network issues. Full disclosure Issues may occur where all products don’t update on the first attempt. I have 32 units and I always have to do a second pass to update a few stragglers (no more than 5) and my network is very stable running Wi-Fi 7.

Bottom-line failed updates are typically internet/network related which…BTW can also be caused by network interference either internal or external.

Barring The app event in 2024 Sonos app and firmware updates are pretty much glitch free coming off the Sonos servers. Such fiascos are rare for companies but when they occur are very painful.Β

Β

Airgetlam

And the 2024 update installed with no issues, no matter what the β€˜reaction’ to the update was. So, not really β€˜barring’ it at all.Β
