macOS: native Apple Silicon support: If you've seen a message about Apple removing Rosetta 2, this one's for you. The Sonos app on macOS now runs natively on Apple Silicon, so no more Rosetta needed.

+1 this is great news.  let’s keep the momentum going and put some more development into the desktop apps. 

That would be an interesting, and substantial change in Sonos’ current position.

If you could pass on… the download link for the S2 macOS controller has not been updated. The S1 macOS controller download has been updated.

FWIW, I used the controller itself to download the ‘new’ MacOS S2 controller, that worked fine. 

I did as well. Both S1 and S2 desktop controllers updated with “Check for updates...”.

Not to put a damper on the good news about the MacOS Desktop app; however, for me it begs the question….

• Will Sonos keep the Web app?

It has been my understanding that the Web App would eventually replace the Desktop app in Mac and Windows. I’ve been trying think 💡of a logical reason to keep both...but can’t 🤔

EQ Shortcut seems to have been removed (Android) at this release/recently?

It now only seems to be present on drilling down into a grouped speaker list and not from the now playing volume.control, which is also absent outside of a group drill down…

Sonos need some regression testing on these releases as I guess this functional loss is not intentional?

For me the web app is a big help as I don't run a Mac or Windows, mostly Linux, some BSD and a sprinkling of DOS.

I usually have a tablet in the room but often not handy, there the web app is a quick solution.

Alas, the S1 app still has no valid version info in its bundle… but that can hopefully be a quick fix now that the arm64 recompile is out the door! 🙏

Here are the requirements: Sonos app requirements

Sonos S1 Controller desktop app

    macOS 10.12 and higher

Being new to Sonos, I just installed 3 days ago, I thought it was me doing something wrong!

I think this is key, and should be fixed asap, as I’m constantly wanting to change the bass when switching from music to speech and vice versa.

On Android 16 tablet fully updated.

If you haven’t…you must Activate the EQ feature.
 

1. Open the App

2. Tap the Head Icon in the upper right next to Settings cog wheel

3. Tap App preferences

4. Enable EQ settings and/or the other two if you want

Hmm…I can’t say read the manual as you’ve been asked by ​@nik9669a 😂😂 as I don’t think 🤔 it’s mentioned. You must use the Support Search function at Sonos.com

Done that twice, its not appearing by the volume on something playing.

You are correct..I confirmed that EQ option is missing on my Android test tablet. Even still after deleting and reinstalling the app. I’m sure Sonos will get this fixed in another update. Hopefully, sooner than later 😊

The Apple Silicon support is probably the most useful part of this update for Mac users. It’s nice to see the desktop app getting some attention too. Hopefully the remaining issues people have mentioned, especially the EQ shortcut on Android, get sorted out in the next update.

In software, updates are rarely as quick as is wanted. In my previous experience, it’s usually two or three ‘updates away, mostly due to 1) figuring out and reproducing the bug 2) fixing it 3) QA testing to be sure it is really fixed and 4 merging into the mainline code for release (which also has aspects, sometimes, of 3). 

There’s also a dependency on how many people are working on other things. Given today’s announcements, there’s a team or two that has been working on them, and not just focused on bugs.

There’s always hope, though, for sooner than later, but there are a ton of ‘other things that can often get in the way of ‘but it’s a simple fix to code’.
