I rolled back my android app but have to leave my iPad app as the new one sadly. At least I have 1 that's more useful lol

Did Sonos admin really shut down the ability to view 550 replies on the negative client experience of this update App?

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

So where is my Sonos Boost ?

I’m trying (honest!) to live with the new mobile app. I can kinda-sorta get by on iOS. Android not so much.

My “Sonos Favorites” is a mix of local albums and streaming albums. On iOS those all of those work okay (and pick up album art). On Android the local albums are greyed-out: there is a placeholder with the correct name, but I cannot tap on the icon (and there is no album art). Anyone else seeing this? Workaround?

It will still be there even though it's not showing. Same thing happened to me but I worked out it was still operating as normal. Then when I rolled back my android app to the old app, it showed there as it should.

Is there any way to selectively disable updates only for the Sonos app?

i.e. allow all apps to auto-update except Sonos?

Yes, on Android. At least on my device. On Play Store, search for Sonos, then select it, click on the 3-dots and disable auto update

I believe the question was how to disable automatic updates for Sonos app only, not how to enable automatic updates for one app. If you can find this option, let us know.

This is for Sonos app only. All my other apps are on auto update.

Unless I’m missing something, I don’t see an option to disable auto updates for Sonos only. The only option is to enable auto updates for Sonos (as you see in your screenshot). I’m on Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. I believe these settings are the same for any Android device.

New version removed my ability to search or play anything from my local library on a NAS unit. Running SMBv3 so it's nothing to do with that.

Also can't clear queues, can't edit queues.

Just a joke

Can only agree with all posts here. The update is a real disaster and makes the system literally unusable. So sad. I have been using Sonos for 18 years. In the beginning, I was really impressed and the updates really enhanced the system. But for approx 5 years ago there was a major update that was a step back in stability. But NOTHING compared to this release.

Luckily, I'm using Android and just rolled back using apk mirror. But how long will the old version work? Until they have fixed the new one?

Bring back the android widget for the new update.

I agree with all the feedback regarding missing functionality etc. It’s not the missing functionality that is currently annoying me the most, it’s the lack of communication from Sonos. It wouldn’t be too difficult to respond to this community with “We hear the feedback provided and will be addressing concern X, Y & Z in the next 7 days”. Considering that boat has sailed due to the time elapsed from releasing this new version and now, at this point the honorable thing to do would be for Sonos to:

  1. Release the previous working version of the controller app to both Google and Apple stores so we can essentially “roll back” to regain the missing functionality.
  2. Issue an apology for all the issues caused and provide clear and concise timeline/roadmap for any functionality changes in future revisions of the controller app.
  3. Review MVP/UAT processes for any future app revisions. This release has been nothing short of a disaster.

Ultimately this new app has turned all of our speakers from a fully fledged piece of equipment to something below a basic speaker with the features found on an iPod shuffle. If we wanted a speaker with iPod shuffle capabilities only, we wouldn’t have spent the extra money needed to purchase Sonos branded equipment.

7 days.???  Sonos are quoting 'months' to fix the issues (and even then some stuff will likely just get dumped)

From an email sent to all customers on April 23rd hyping the new app.

How will this affect my system?

We've taken great care to ensure that this update only enhances your Sonos experience. Your products, features, and services will work as they always have, and all your settings will be saved.

ive bolded the patently false part.  if i had known this wasnt the case i would have never updated.

Suggestion 1.  Rollback app on app store to 16.1 until all features are ready.  Release the new app as a new app for those that want it in the meantime.

Suggestion 2 -  Communicate ASAP timelines on when features will be back and more importantly if they will be back.  Many features have been promised to return but some others havent (ie local library search).

Customers need accurate information to make informed decisions.  Weve been left in the dark.

its sad that i got this list from a retailer and not from Sonos itself.  Mind you that now seems to be removed so hopefully it was wrong and i wont have to wait until July for queue management.

Unfortunately as with most app launches nowadays, this isn't the finished article just yet. While the Sonos S2 App has launched with a solid foundation, some users might have noticed a few missing features including the ability to edit playlists and queues (frustrating we know). Here's some good news! We can confirm they are on their way and we've been able to compile a timeline for some of the crucial additions Sonos is expected to bring in the coming months:

Auto Trueplay / Quicktune Era (100 & Era 300) - Arriving in Late May

Snooze Alarms - Coming in June

Google Assistant Setup on Android - Coming in June

Sleep Timers - Coming in July

Find Missing Products Tool - Coming in July

Offline Devices - Coming in July

Queue & Playlist Editing - Coming in July

Very frustrated that alarms functionality has been been removed across all platforms. Unable to edit or create alarms using OS app or IOS apps.

Just to try to help, if you have a PC/Mac available, you can still use the S2 Desktop Controller to set/adjust/delete alarms on Sonos.

It’s perplexing as to why Sonos are dragging us down with them until July? Surely it would make more sense to rollback the app and then re-release it in August after it passes a more rigorous UAT/MVP process?

Time to look into Wiim products and see how they’ll replace my Port and the other Sonos products I have perhaps.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned here already but why can’t I add music to a queue?

I almost exclusively use the app to control Sonos (don’t like voice controls) and now I can only play one song at a time (or an album). I build on-the-fly lists all the time and now I can even play two songs back to back.

Please give Apple iPhone users a legacy v16 app so we can use our systems again.

Thanks Ken , but I already tried that using the S2 DC on my Mac but it isn’t letting me edit/deleted/create  alarms.

If it’s any help there is a good app called SonoPad which might help people get their system back again.

Apple only :-(

I would certainly be interested in the metrics that lead to the the determination that the minimal feature set they’ve launched with is “viable”. Maybe queue builders and alarm users are a disposable corner of the customer base.

Bad business if you ask me, but I bet there’s an confidential PowerPoint slide setting out exactly this risk.

The missed opportunity to A-B test the new app against the old in the wild is a bit of a forehead slap.

Same for me; I don’t see album art for my local library in the new Android app and can’t access the local albums via my favourites. I don’t have an iOS device, but I do see album art in the Windows desktop app and can also access favourite albums from there.

They’ve given a statement to The Verge which touches on missing features.

Disappointingly, there was no explanation as to why they couldn’t keep the gold S2 app available alongside this new app until the new app regains key functionality. That’s what I want to know. Unfortunately I probably won’t be able to attend the AMA discussion on the 14th, but hopefully some others will ask.

Agreed, personal library Albums in favourites are greyed out on Android and simply don’t work.  The option to add library artists or albums to the favourites is there, but doesn’t work either.

Please add the numbers back to the volume slider?

Widgets, they were useful....where have they gone?

Scaling on Android needs some work, everything is just a bit too large.

Please please please add full Trueplay support to Android now.....you could at least target the most commonly used handsets. Also I can't even seem to enable or disable Trueplay from the new Android app now as the option doesn't show up at all.

It always feels like Android is an after thought to Sonos.......globally there are as many Samsung handsets as iPhone so it seems a bit naive to constantly ignore this...US blinkers on??

Agreed. The only issue with their thinking, if that is what happened, is they still managed to piss off people like me who don’t even use those functions. The app has other issues, and there are legacy issues not being addressed as well. I am not a typical forum poster, but here I am. At this point there is also a sense of solidarity for those losing features, because someday it may be a feature I do care about.

Can you imagine Sony, Samsung or whoever marching into your house and removing half the buttons from your tv remote control?  That’s how this feels!
