Question

volume up (specifically) not working on playbar via IR

So I have a strange one. I have added my remote control to my playbar by doing the remote control setup.

it learns my remote volume and mute buttons successfully. In fact it successfully recognises my remote just by pressing volume up.

Once setup is complete when I press volume up, it doesn’t work. No indicator light, nothing. Even through it successfully just learned the remote. Weirdly, volume down works fine.

I have even used other random remotes and taught it random buttons for vol up, vol down and mute. And it accepts and learns them fine. But again, when I actually press the exact volume up button after successful completion it doesn’t work. Any ideas?

Did you find what you were looking for?

Hi @Michael_255,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues using a remote with your Playbar.

It’s a strange issue to hear and nothing I have any information regarding. If a button isn’t working then generally it would mean the setup was done incorrectly or failed, but since you can replicate it with multiple remotes and it’s always the volume up button, then I’d recommend submitting a diagnostics and reaching out to our support team. They have the necessary tools available to look into your system and see what’s happening when configuring and using the remote. I’d suggest pairing the remote, trying the various buttons, then submitting the diganotics within ten minutes of doing so just so the most recent activity in the diagnostics is for the remote.

I hope this helps!

Thanks @Jamie.

So, I worked out what was happening.

If I’m playing media, then the volume up button works. If I’mm not playing media, only the volume down button works.

Weird behaviour but at least it works.

Thanks.

One approach to try is to claim to all of the remotes that you are controlling a model XYZ A/V system, then train PLAYBAR to use the same model XYZ commands. The model is arbitrary as long as an XYZ is not located nearby.

Out of curiosity, which models are involved in your system? Over the years there have been a (very) few similar complaints.

hey buzz. I am on a playbar, input to it is 4in/2out hdmi splitter with optical separation and that goes in to the playbar. inputs to the to hdmi splitter are an appletv, playstation and switch. nothing crazy i dont think.

i’m not sure I understand your proposed solution, what do you mean “claim to all the remotes”?

When you claim to an IR remote, such as a cable box, VCR, AppleTV, etc., that it is controlling Volume on an A/V system, the remote setup will ask for the A/V system model number. In your case, since you don’t actually have a conventional A/V system, just give the same A/V model number as you setup each unit -- including PLAYBAR.
