Wi-Fi vs Ethernet for Sonos Setup in a Detached Garage – Any Recommendations?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to set up a couple of Sonos speakers in my detached garage, mainly for music while working on projects or just relaxing. I’m wondering whether it's better to run an Ethernet cable from the main house or rely on Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi signal is decent but not perfect, especially when the garage door is closed.

Has anyone done something similar? What worked best for you in terms of connection stability and performance?

Thanks in advance!

All that said, were it I , I would run Ethernet cables to the garage, if you’re already having issues with WiFi. You could run a single cable to an unmanaged switch, and then each speaker to the switch with Ethernet cables.

I recommend running the network cable. As a future hedge, you could also run fiber.

If you are determined to use WIFI try a repeater.  I upgraded to a router using wifi6 and was amazed at the increased coverage.  Also try rooting or moving your router.  They are frequently directional.

It’s a bot/scam….!

You can tell by the phrasing of “What worked best for you in terms of connection stability and performance?” - it’s like a LinkedIn sign-off line, to drive engagement. Which it unfortunately has...

Not to mention including a link.

Here is Sonos’s network requirements for the best experience with their speakers:

Look in the “Unsupported” section.
