Hello,

So I just switched router and hooking up Sonos wireless to the new WIFI seems impossible. I’ve read threads here as well as on Reddit and it seems to be pretty common and obviously connected to the new app and its issues.

What works now is Sonosnet with one of my speakers wired directly to the router. I can then control the speakers through my computer wirelessly, but not through the app. S1 found the wired speaker and then sends me to S2 which doesn’t find anything. Spent hours trying different things suggested by the community but I now have to accept that these 5+ hours were wasted. Sonosnet atleast lets me use my TV and surround system even though I can’t access specific settings which I could through the app. I’ve tried switching different networks, turning off networds, factory-resetting a Play:1, etc. Nothing works.

Is there a point in continuing this or should I just accept this temporary fix and wait for Sonos to get their shit together in a coming update that might be months away?

Thoughts? 😔

  1. Do you have speakers that are S1 only and speakers that can be used with S2?
  2. Did you update to the S2 app?

It is possible to use bot the S1 app with older speakers and the S2 app with newer speakers in your home

With a new router, the easiest thing to do would be to use the same SSID and password you had on your old router. Then your speakers may have just needed to be rebooted to find the new router.

If you did reset all of you speakers, then you will need to set them up again. A factory reset should be the last resort when you have connection issues.

Thanks for answering!

  1. My whole system is compatible with S2.
  2. Yes - I’ve used the app with my previous router and ISP since it was relased.

I’ve tried the network name/pass trick but it didn’t work, maybe because I’ve already set up the Sonosnet? As far as downgrading to S1 which probably would work since that version atleast finds the system - that feature is currently disabled as of version 80.0.

Thankfully I only reset one of the speakers that I don’t use too often. The most important ones are on the Sonosnet.

What is stupefying to me is that there’s no feature to manually type in your WIFI in S2. Who thought that was good design?

It seems they’ve removed this from the new app and is only supported with devices that support bluetooth low energy.

If you do a search here, there are a few people having issues with play1s and new wifi settings. Having a different 2.4ghz network name from the 5ghz may have worked for at least one person. If you have a unit plugged in to the network IIRC you should unplug this to force it to wifi mode.

Hello again,

Been at it again since I can’t seem to move on… I ended up factory resetting each and every individual device then set them up manually again using only the S2 controller. Took some time but now everything is working again. Seems to be the only way to go about this since - as I mentioned earlier, someone thought it was a good idea to omit a manual wifi-button in the app. I get that maybe it isn’t that easy to set it up, but programming something that forces Sonos to switch its installation process - or the start of it since it in the installation process creates it’s own - to start from a new wifi has to be added.

Oh, and I manually switched to that temporary Sonos wifi every time I added a new device since the prompt in the installation process only asks for it but doesn’t manage to switch in the latest iOS.

Thanks again for the replies, gave me the energy to keep going! 🙏  Even though my wife rolled her eyes over and over, 😉

I also changed my router and on my android phone I could not see my system, I could change the wifi on some speakers, even though I got the message that the change was successful, I could not see any speakers. I could see my entire system on my desktop app. So after several hours of trying to change my SSID back to the old one but that didn't fix the problem. I also tried resetting my speakers, that didn't work either. What fixed it was reinstalling the app on my phone and connected it to my Sonos system. I did that on all 5 phones in the household.
