Please consider switching to a different community platform (this one is poor)

I have three main complaints about this community...

1. Search: When you search for something there is no option to sort the results and no option to restrict the search to specific fields (e.g. restrict search to thread titles). Such features are commonly available on other forums.

2. Notifications: You can elect to receive notifications if someone posts a comment in a thread you have subscribed to. But this is too broad. I don't want a notification for every single comment posted in a thread. I only want notifications if someone replies specifically to a comment I have made. This is a common option on other forums.

3. Linking of posts within threads: In other forums its common for a reply to a post within a thread to be linked to that post. For example you can commonly click a link in the reply to be taken back to the original comment. This makes it much easier to follow conversations within long threads, but is not a feature on this community.

I’m assuming these issues are related to the underlaying platform you re using to run the community site. So please consider switching to a better one.

Another feature that I would suggest is the ability to sort threads by number of upvotes/likes. Then people could more easily find threads for common/major issues, making it less likely duplicates will be created.

Sonos should definitely be using UserVoice.

Why complain? It's an echo chamber.  Nobody is listening - it just a jumble of angry shouts & protests.  Nobody reads other posts but just jumps in randomly with another repetitive complaint.  Some threads have reached over 1500 disconnected posts.  It's a mess.

Sonos will fix the app in its own timescale and manner.  End of.

The community platform is bad and could do with being replaced independent of the new Sonos app. However, the mass increase in activity over the last couple of weeks has amplified just how bad it is. The things you’re complaining about here would happen to a lesser extent with a better platform.

I haven’t spent a great deal of time on platforms that run on UserVoice, but in my limited experience I feel that whilst it works well for feature requests, it doesn’t seem to me to be great for discussion.

My suggestions would be Discourse or XenForo. Forums I’ve used that run on either of these platforms all provide much better search, sort, notification, and threading features than the Sonos community. As a consequence, much easier to find existing relevant threads and to follow conversations within large threads.

you cannot even sort by MOST RECENT via iOS. I’m looking at people’s complaints from 6 years ago at the top

The search issue is easily avoided, best avoided too as it is the worst I’ve seen.

Use any decent search engine but start by adding the “restrict to site” option.

Had the issue right now: I was searching for a problem and got only results that are years old even though I know there must be newer ones. Can’t sort results by date, really?

Well, Sonos used to have a really great forum software in the past, but eventually they had the courage to replace it with a new one, which is slower, less intuitive and has less features. Looks like there is a pattern 😂
