I’ve updated SONOS on my Android phone. The new app is awful compared to the old one and has so many bugs, as noted by customers on this site minute-by-minute over the past week or so.

I’ve also updated my SONOS app on my Windows 11 computer. This is where I have my music library. The update removed the library. I tried to re-add it, and it came up with Error 913. I can’t access the music library…..I can’t use SONOS for what I bought it for!!!! Frustrated doesn’t go anywhere near how I feel right now. I’m not an I.T. Test Analyst. Neither have I volunteered to be a BETA tester for SONOS. But my investment in SONOS equipment has been destroyed by this update. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Really! You have to ve a computer geek to get your friggin music back

Well said Simpleguy, completely agree - same issue on my windows 11. Tried various workarounds like ensuring my iTunes folder is shared and it simple won’t allow me to add the folder (error 913). I’ve always thought that SONOS hardware is great but that the app is very clunky (on both my phone and PC) but now it is even worse!

(1) I think the Sonos CEO should resign immediately and offer his apologies to the tens of thousands, if not more, of Sonos customers who have had their lives upended by an extremely poor decision to release the latest update.  I can’t add or play my music library from any sonos app.  The mobile app for iOS or android is virtually useless.

(2) What is the best alternative to Sonos speakers?  I am high-tech challenged.  I just want speakers that can play my music library on my PC’s hard drive as well as some music services (amazon music, etc.).  I’m done with Sonos, I’m ready to move on.

It’s maddening! I can’t move on, my house has aplaybar, sub,6 one sls, 2 symfonisk, 2 play3s , 2 play 1s move move 2 mini sub and 3 roams

Can’t even play my own music anymore…….what the FUCK !

Flood the ceo s email

yes, this needs to be fixed. for the past five days I have been shut out of my own computer music library on SONOS.

Last week, before hitting ‘update now’, I checked the feedback and read about all the issues so I decided not to update. However, since yesterday I can no longer play music from my music library and I ran into other (network)issues -so even now, after all the bad press, SONOS limits functionality even for those of us who haven’t updated yet. Also, I keep getting the message that an app-update is necessary and that I may have ‘limited functionality’ until I update. STOP THIS, SONOS, it is all over the internet that the update limits finctionality in so many ways, why still force it on us???

By the way, as a workaround I now play my music on SONOS straight from my MacBook or iPhone via bluetooth/airplay...

I’ve fixed mine after talking to support, but this is not something for the average user.  I hope there’s an easier way, as I found it a bit of a chore, and I work on computers all day.  Here’s how I did it in windows 11..

  1. Make sure SMBv1 is disabled by doing the following:
  2. Launch the Control Panel by typing Control Panel in the Windows search box.
  3.  Click Programs in the list and then select Turn Windows features on or off under Programs and Features.
  4.  Ensure there is no checkmark in the box next to both SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support and SMB 1.0/CIFS Server.
  5. If you had to disable it, it may require a reboot after you deselect, and hit OK.  Mine fortunately wasn’t selected.
  6. Create a share on the folder that your music is in, and give a user permission to use it.
  7. I created a local user using instructions from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/create-a-local-user-or-administrator-account-in-windows-20de74e0-ac7f-3502-a866-32915af2a34d   But apparently you can use the user you’re logged in as (I couldn’t, it didn’t work for me).
  8. With a user ready, right click the folder containing music and select Properties
  9. Select the Sharing Tab
  10. Hit the Share button, and make sure the user you want to use is in the list with at least Read access, and hit the Share button.
  11. Back on the sharing tab, it will show the name of the share as \\<computer name>\Music      (or whatever the share name is (mine was called TheLibrary))  Hit Apply.
  12. This share name is what you type in the sonos app when you are adding your music library.

What a nightmare.

Thank you for posting this procedure. Of all the myriad of folder permissions and sharing mechanisms proposed, this one worked for me. Windows 11.

Their QA department is either nonexistent or not doing their jobs. And failure to provide past versions of the controller software for those of us unwilling to submit to their BUG-FILLED new releases is CRIMINAL.

Same here. Error 913 for Apple Music Library on Sonoma 14.4.1. If I try to add the folder directly, it says access denied and to check username/password. I can see it trying to access the folder and then giving up. I’m the administrator so there should be no access/username problems.

BTW, this may help others until Sonos can fix this mess they’ve created. I copied the entire Apple music library to my NAS and then used add “Networked device (ex. NAS drive)” and was able to add the music library folder without any problems. This is just a temp solution since the library won’t be updated if I add more music but at least it keeps me going for the time being.

I have attempted this fix multiple times on my Windows11Pro without success. I tried several variations of this “fix”, but each try ended in failure. I concur with a previous comment, Sonos is useless since the last update for playing my extensive library on my Sonos speakers. I can still play my Sirius XM, but I need to be able to play my own music too. SONOS, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???

Ceo@sonos.com slam him

They just don’t care.  As if we’re beholden to them and not vice versa. Not even “We apologize.  We’re working on it.”  Much less, “We’ll keep you posted on where things are at.”

Y’all might want to check how Sonos stock is reacting to this latest update. If they don’t fix things soon, the company may not be worth squat!

I got a long apology from sonos and a promise to have it remedied soon. Thats 1174 songs i  can’t access

Curious how they define “soon”. I’ve got about 4,500 on two playlists and maybe another 50K songs in folders on external HD. Reduced to playing them through MS Music with small bluetooth Bose speaker. Not the sound I’m used to…

Further to my earlier post:that began “ Thank you, thank you thank you to dstsng “, it worked, then it didn’t but then it did. That was a relatively easy fix that worked for me. Try it!

Please note that I am in not way forgiving SONOS at all- just getting my music running- no thanks to Sonos “chats” or anything else from Sonos. Terrible customer service- the helper in this forum gave me something that worked- and Sonos suggestions were useless. I would never recommend Sonos to anyone. I have had my system for more than 10 years but would have never bought them if I knew then what I know now. I only joined this community to comment on this latest fiasco. I reached the limit of my patience.

Version 16.2

Build: 79052294

Windows 11 - Music library disappeared.  Can’t even add my music from a hard drive.  If it’s an app issue then Sonos should notify its customers that have invested thousands of dollars in their products.  If I recall, this is the second time that this has happened.  Error, “unable to add the shared folder to your music library.” Error 913.

SONOS, BE PROFESSIONAL AND NOTIFY YOUR CUSTOMES IF THERE IS A PROBLEM AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

I have my speakers dropping off now no music library speakers show not connected. It sounds good when it works. I ve got 21 speakers so i m stuck. I chat because i can’t understand the thick accents from their overseas customer service. They suck the ceo is a moron. When i first started this they actually had English as a first language customer service. Its wrecked just like every thing else in the world.

I’m so relieved to have found this thread. I thought I was an idiot for not being able to figure out how to add my Music Library to the updated Android app. Like so many people here, I don’t use streaming services and the whole reason I went with the Sonos system is so I could play my CD and MP3 music library.

I’ve seen the fix for the Windows 11 app and maybe I’ll try that, but is there a comparable workaround for the Android app. I mostly use Sonos off my phone when I’m in various rooms of the house, not sitting at my desktop PC.

I’m thinking there’s a good class action lawsuit here. Anyone on the list a lawyer who wants to file a consumer class action? Happy to be your named plaintiff.

MojoNIxon-

The CA Lawsuit was something I’ve been thinking about for a number of days now.

Good Job bringing it up.

According to the Washington Post, “Sonos now says it’s fixing problems and adding back missing features within days or weeks.” (May 17, 2024)

Why haven’t they bothered to contact us owners of Sonos products with an apology and an explanation? They do have all of our emails addresses!

I got an apology, so what that and ten bucks will get you a cup of coffee

Phildirt3, was that apology because you contacted Sonos? My point is that with all the unsatisfied customers, enough so that it has been reported in a major media outlet, Sonos ought to be communicating with all of us.

I too am highly invested in this product. When I bought my first speakers about 12 years ago Sonos was the only game in town for playing my extensive music library throughout my home.

Surely hope they are motivated to make things right.

Hey all, it looks like today’s Sonos update has fixed the library issue.
