Question

Multiple Copies of albums in my SONOS Music Library

Forum|alt.badge.img+2

I have managed to reinstall my Music Library held on a Toshiba Hard Drive so SONOS is now picking it up.

However, in most cases, up to 20 copies of each album are showing on the SONOS S2 app. some copies with either no tracks listed, or some copies with a few tracks from the album , and a few different tracks on another copy!

Clearly I have done something wrong!

Any advice on how to correct this situation would be helpful!

Kind Regards,

Hi there having the same problem - not 20 copies but some albums show all items as albums - checked source single directory - used to work - others show albums as albums - seems like another for the Sonos fix it list

Are they compilation albums by any chance?

If so the latest speaker firmware updates introduced a new bug on indexing any album where the artist doesn’t match the album artist… You then get one copy of the album show up for each different combination of artist/album artist…

It’s a known issue with an unknown ETA for being fixed … 😞

Thank You,

Yes the problem is with combination albums - so for example “20 Golden Greats” will mean 20 albums!

also, if an album for a single performer contains one track where that performer is accompanied by another performer, a duet, then that results in a separate album for the duet track.

I eventually phoned the SONOS helpline and was informed this is a known problem with no fix date as yet as you suggest.

Thank You for your replies.

Unfortunately, this happened in my Music Library as well, but not just with compilation albums. Moby's 18 has 4 copies and an album by Stef Bos (Dutch singer/songwriter) has 2. A month-old thread states it's a 16.3 firmware problem. Updating the firmware causes this.

Yes it has been reported an acknowledged as a bug.  In the meantime i used MP3Tag to change some of the artist/album artist that were clogging my music library.

Yes, it’s  known bug that’s been here for a few weeks. It’s super annoying if you have a large music library.

So sick and tried of the issues over the last few months.  Please stop using PAID customers as Guinea Pigs for your updates Sonos.  Thanks to all the above comments on the Multi Folders, that makes sense to me.

Really appreciate this and others - happy to know it's not just me.  So many problems with Music Library since major update.

It’s devastating, and costing Sonos money. It should be a simple fix, surely. In the meantime, the Sonos earphones will remain in the ‘future maybe’ bucket. In the meantime I did buy some Sony ones that seem great!

You can still use Folder view to find your compilations intact.  Because I am a big fan of classical music I learned to make the Artist & Album Artist tag exactly the same    ( last name of the composer ). Imagine the mess 16.3 would have made of my library had I not done tagging that way.

MoPac - thanks for the Folder suggestion.  I didn’t even realise it existed.  I’d been hoping the album presentation issue would be solved in 16.3.3 (build 80156190) which came through yesterday, however it’s still listing each song in an album as if it were an album itself, instead of having the regular parent/child relationship you’d expect for an album and its tracks.  Maybe next update …

Yike! this is a terrible, terrible bug. They put out a new version after over a month and they didn’t fix this??? That’s….. insane.
