Hey all, today we're sharing a message from our chief innovation officer, Nick Millington in the announcement here. Going forwards we will update that topic and we therefore close this one for further replies.
We set out to create a more personalized and effortless listening experience with the updated Sonos app. It was rebuilt from the ground up to ensure it could support future innovation in the years to come. For its initial rollout, we focused on how we could answer some of the most common requests from our customers, including increased reliability, performance, and faster access to music.
Many of you have shared valuable feedback on both the improvements that have made your experience better, as well as the areas where we fell short. We are listening to all of your comments and working to address them as quickly as possible. Over the coming weeks, we will reintroduce the below features, while fixing bugs and performance issues. Thank you for your engagement and we look forward to building upon this first step to create a listening experience that meets everyone’s needs.

I just want to be able to sort my Sonos Favorites lists alphabetically again…. Is this really so hard?! My logical brain is struggling to deal with random order….
Be good if you could delete your favorites, or reorder them the way you want, or add to them easily. I have never made a favorite, but now it seems I magically have dozens. Just another part of the continuing cr@ppy app.
edit: oh and the ‘recently played’ just doesn’t work. It doesn’t add recently played items, no way to edit them, and items I haven’t played for months are on the list
Any plans to fix cover art not showing up on the new Sonos Android App?

I still cannot play my imported playlists. None of them contain any content. The only way to access my existing tracks is through a folder called “Media.localized”. I painstakingly created dozens of playlists in Apple Music (songs I have purchased over the years) and I have thousands of tracks - I do not want to have to build them all over again in the sloppy, not-user-friendly Sonos controller. This always worked flawlessly before May.
This was supposed to have been fixed in July. Did Sonos just give up on playing local music from your device?

Adding favorites seems to be possible in the app as well as desktop. Just find a “three dots” menu and there’s some sort of “add to favorites” option on there (this week I think it’s called “Save to Sonos favorites”). And you can sort them: you can choose between ordering them by “most recently added” and “date added descending”.
Recently played also works. It lists your most recently-played selections over the past ??? days (my list goes back about 10-14 days). Obviously, unlike previous incarnations of the app that showed recently-played from all your sources, it only shows items played from selected music services, no local library music, but what do you expect from Sonos?
Knowing of the difficulties and forced upgrades on our phones (Android), I did not upgrade my Pc App. Unfortunately your system is still today trying to strong-arm me into upgrading by disabling all buttons handling my music library.
Let me summarize my main grievances:
- Music library a) no thumbnails b) no artist names in overview only album name c) many folders are split into one-song/one album rendering them simply unplayable - playback stops after 1 song.
- Phone (Android): Music library same as above. Play from device: A function I used daily, was simply terminated. Result: I had to buy a Nas for 500€ to be able to listen to my music collection. But then the new update came...
In my opinion, you should focus on what made you great, the hardware connected to WiFi with a phone as a remote control. Somehow you got the idea to transform into software company where you end up limiting the users completely unnecessarily. Its crazy that your products worked better 20 years ago than they do today.
There is a still no fix for the “Log In as a System Owner” loop. Unbelievable!! The app is unusable on my Iphone 15!
I don’t need to see the album artwork on my iphone (too busy) -- and just want to be able to jump to a artist/album in my music library. WORST UPGRADE EVER!!
When will Sonos customers be able to access iTunes libraries?
I recently had a booked call with an agent from Sonos, following my complaint to the CEO.
After some work, she managed to re-install my Music Library nd everything worked again…...until I tried to access it again today and it is no longer showing!!!
I forgot how she managed to achieve it and am writing to her again. I do recall that it involved adding a shared network drive rather than the music library option which is visible but doesn’t work (annoyingly)
The CEO wrote in his message months ago that customers would be able to access personal iTunes libraries by the end of August. That was a month ago. Has this functionality been restored and have I just missed it somehow?
Watching - keen to hear.
I am fortunate in that I do have access but the search is pitiful regarding functionality, playlists are difficult and Sonos displays the content by song rather than albums….. it’s still a mess.
After some more time wasting, I have found the way to do it and, as I write this, my Music Library is indexing.
I needed to add it as a shared network drive (having ensured that all sharing options were correctly chosen), which was -
\\my local drives name.local\music
The thing is that customers shouldn’t need to mess about like this. also, the music Library option should not be there if it does not work! GRRRRRRRR!
So not only is Sonos unable to fix the app they are now spamming my inbox with 30 plus emails, all the same, telling me there is an update to a thread I am not following nor in my favorites (I have no favorites). I cannot even unsubscribe!
Way to go Sonos!
When will Sonos customers be able to access iTunes libraries?
Well, I can access mine now and have been able to for several weeks (using Android).
The app is still a major degrade from the old one and there are still a lot of things that I can’t do, at least not easily but that feature does seem to have been restored a while ago.
So not only can is Sonos unable to fix the app they now are spamming my inbox with 20 plus emails, all the same, telling me that the same person made a comment.
Way to go Sonos!
Yes, I’m getting repeated email updates for this thread and I don’t even subscribe to it… The thread is not in my Favourites list so I can’t unsubscribe! Grrr.
I certainly will never buy another Sonos product. Until a good substitute comes along, I’ll get by with an mp3 player and the Sonos audio jack.
Where in my Samsung Sonos application do I find my iTunes library? I see my Pandora stations, “Your Services” and “Sonos Favorites”.
It is soooo disappointing to not being able to play my iTunes songs for 5 months and counting. I purchased Sonos to be able to do this.

Don’t give Sonos any ideas about eliminating Local Libraries!! Very scary!! Well… There’s always WiiM.
I had all of the same problems that you are all mentioning. I moved My Library to my NAS drive. I worked with a level 3 tech, who changed the channel that my Orbi router was using and now I can search my library and everything works ….almost perfect. There is still latency with the volume controls.
I hope that they will continue to improve the new app, and YES, I agree that the old app was much user friendlier then the new app.
I dropped out of this discussion a few weeks ago but I’m dipping back in with 1 point and a question:
- I can airplay streaming music from my phone, independently from the Sonos app, to all my Sonos rooms and it just works. (Apologies if you all know this already but it was a bit of a revelation to me!) Yet more proof, if we needed it, that the hardware is still good but the new app software is rubbish.
- Am I missing something or can you still not create new playlists?
Thanks.

So I did the same thing, I believe, but it just seems to dump all of my songs into one folder. It does not maintain the individual playlists. So I have thousands of songs, from Christmas to indy alternative to white noise, and there is no longer a separation. Did you get them to import as individual playlists?
Honestly, the SONOS controller is not user-friendly enough to build these playlists over again, so I’m not going to bother if it isn’t possible. I will just end up tossing these bricks and buying something new.
The airdrop feature was an amazing option to be able to play music in all your rooms. However, if you have Sonos 5 (which is able to be found on airdrop) and Sonos 1 (does not show up as an airdrop option) in other rooms that feature no longer works! In the past you would then go on the Sonos app and direct it to play in all rooms. You are now forced to only use the Sonos app to play in all your rooms with the combo of speakers, which can’t handle the amount of music is some of my playlists. This is a nightmare. Not worth having Sonos products if they can’t handle the amount of music on playlists for music lovers.
ive givin up on listening to music on my sonos system, nothing will show up with the new app. youtube music wont show anything, my local library wont show anything, plex doesnt work, spotify just offers radio options. sonos radio is full of commercials, my $3000 system is worthless now, it only works as a regular soundbar for my tv,
Does anyone from SONOS bother to read this feedback?
I've been using SonoPhone on my iPhone to use my Sonos Playlists since March. It works for me. Has any tried this for their local libraries?
