I primarily use the macOS app, and am not really looking forward to relying on the web app, since I live in an area with poor internet availability.

Since they haven’t done any work (other than egregious bug fixing) on either the Windows or Mac ‘desktop’ apps for years, in favor of their web app, it does seem unlikely that there would be resources dedicated to a port.
Music doesn’t flow through it but all interactions with it are over the internet. There is no album art. There is no search. The index has no quick jump letters. It’s slow scrolling forever to reach letters later in the alphabet. Have you tried it?
I take the “no search” back. When you click in search, it shows your services and sonos radio. But not the music library. When you actually search, the music library does get included and re-appears. I’m not sure when that was added.
Sonos has been moving away from the computer based OS app for years. It first started when they took away setup functionality which you can now only do with your phone or tablet (iOS or Android). That move upset customers to no end; but hey…I got over it and moved on. I’m to the point now that I’ve forgotten it. In fact I don’t use the computer based app even today.
Full disclosure I’m Apple everything. Which includes four computers. Haven’t even thought about using the MacOS app. My phone and tablet do everything. There’s nothing that the MacOS app does differently nor better.
OK…so you’ve got all your music stored on your Mac. All you need is a path to that location which is to create a Music library via your phone or tablet that will also be available via the Web app. Frankly, you’d be better served with a NAS solution.
I like someone else has said l’m not trying to rile you up (although I’ve been guilty of such) 😂. However, the bottom-line is that companies (including Sonos) have to make decisions as to what they will continue to support in terms of software development. Supporting multiple platforms creates cost regarding development and paid tech support personnel (unlike myself and others in this community). BTW we are not tech support in the strict sense of the term. We’re just people who volunteer our time to help for the love of the Sonos product which isn’t always perfect. But…what product is 🤔
I know what I’ve expressed in this post isn’t going to change the minds of those that are furious with Sonos not supporting Apple Silicon. Hopefully some will think again about what they perceive as a loss.
I have no problem with the desktop apps going away. I have a problem pretending the web app is a replacement for a program running locally on your computer sending/receiving data directly to devices on your local network. Just like when the big S2 “rewrite” was having volume changes sent to the cloud and back. Causing all sorts of issues with volume controls lagging/not in sync or just not working. Eventually fixed to send volume changes locally to devices. Well, the web app volume control over the internet is just as bad.
Just a lot of bad experiences with Apple. My last Apple device just told me it won't update as the latest os requires more free memory than I have.
On the other hand my Sonos, back to a first generation Play 1, are happily playing music.
BS!! Sonos dropped support for the original Play 3, Play 5 and the original Sonos Amp. They tried to get everyone to trade them in, but that didn’t work. Yes they will still play music. The only way was to download the original S1 app to your phone. They are no better than any other company dropping support for older products, and now refusing to keep up with technology they have had six years to address.

They did drop support for the CR-100 controllers but there was plenty of warning, giving users the choice of adding new features or keeping the CR.

It’s not like Sonos was caught by surprise. They never planned on offering an Apple Silicon version. I suppose that’s their right to decide not to spend the developer resources on it. Just as it’s your right make a choice based on that.

Sonos dropped further improvements to the Windows-/macOS app back in 2018 with the launch of v8.0. I bet you haven’t even tried out the Web controller yet (requires S2).

First off check the reviews: they are all real reviews, none of the hundreds of 5 star bulk-purchased reviews the sketchy apps have. Secondly the Windows version has a 7-day free trial, and has the exact same feature set as the Mac version. If you get the Mac version and don’t like it you can get a refund from Apple - my refund rate is low.
Looking at the Controlav post from about 5 hours ago, I assume this is what you were suggesting. Not sure what to search for in the Android Playstore; Micradot, controlav, or something else. I need an Android version.
You could always message the author, forums advertising policies might prevent a public response.

Hey, this is a concern for me as my internet is garbage due to various geographic reasons. Im a software engineer and sonos fan since the beginning. Ive played around with bespoke sonos control apps for personal use since the early phones began replacing the original hardware controllers we used to have.
Anyway, long story short, ai is here and theres no reason software cant do what you want. I spent the afternoon ai/rewriting the basics of the functionality I wanted in native apple silicon using swift. I’ve pushed it onto github (SonosController on github) so you can grab and build it yourself or use the single release build I dropped in there.
Be aware of limitations (cant hook into services directly due to keys etc). check out the readme and I built architecture documents in the docs folder too.
I have been using it this afternoon as a replacement and it doesnt look like there are any major bugs but who knows. Worst case is it may crash to desktop.

I came to the community forum because I wondered what would be happening due to the rosetta-related messages I’ve been getting.
As a result, I saw devScott’s comment and found his app by searching for “sonos macos” on GitHub (fyi it appears to have been renamed to Choragus). It looks to be a brilliant app with nice documentation and I’ll be giving it a try. Thanks, devScott, for putting in the work and sharing with the community! fwiw, I, too, would much rather have a standalone desktop app. That’s my preference; if people are happy with a web-based app, I won’t argue or disagree :)
I’m not an Apple person. Would one expect a virtual machine to become available? Of course this would not be viable for the feint of heart. Also, I expect the SONOS desktop controller to fade away at some point.
