How can I play sonos speakers at same time as wired in speakers?
We've recently bought a sonos connect and some play speakers to connect to our existing stereo system and be able to play cds in different rooms than where the stereo is located but it seems impossible to play the sonos speakers at the same time as the existing speakers as plugging in the connect "mutes" the stereo speakers. Is there a solution for this?

Feed the Connect by wiring from TAPE/REC OUT sockets on the existing amplifier. It sounds like you've used a headphone outlet, which cuts out the conventional speakers.
You can post the make/model of stereo system if you like. It sounds like it's a bit basic if there's no line-level (REC type) output.
If that's the case an option would be to use a speaker-to-line-level converter, wired to the speaker terminals in parallel with the actual speakers. It's a pretty ghastly solution to be honest. The stereo system's volume control would also affect the Play speakers, so there could be 'volume wars'.
Is the CD player separate? If so that could be wired to the Connect, and the Connect wired to the amplifier. It would at least deliver CD audio.
The ideal solution of course would be to rip your CDs to hard disk. You could then search, select and play them directly on Sonos via the network. It might be simpler just to take out a subscription to, say, Spotify...

Thank you! It is nothing fancy, we just didn't want to replace stuff that works 🙂 It's a sony HCDSBT300W, cd player integrated. The only connections other than headphone jack are these
By the looks of things those are custom moulded speaker connectors, so unless you get busy with wire cutters/strippers then even splicing in a speaker-to-line-level converter would be difficult.
I suggest you either rip your CDs to a hard drive on the network, or simply use an online service to play music you like through the Sonos players and leave your old CDs to gather dust.

You might consider adding a CD player or DVD player that has available outputs, one that has TOS and RCA would be ideal as you could connect it to both your current player/speaker's input and to the Connect.
