Hi,

I’m new to this so I need some advice please.   I currently my have a pair of jamo E800 speakers (wired) that are connected to my stereo amp but the cabling is a pain and unsightly and I’m thinking of replacing them with a pair of Era100s (using a line in adaptor) .    My question is, will I notice a significant difference in sound quality  ?

Not familiar with these jamo speakers, but I wouldn’t think so. But your ears are better at telling, I’d sugggest going to a store that has the Era 100s on display. If you order them directly from Sonos, there’s also a return policy, in case you find them lacking.

Give us some links to your existing speakers if you want a comparison.

Era-100s sound pretty good, the Era-300 is a nice step up and does Atmos, the Five is the best stereo speaker. All offer a line-in option, the Five's is built in, not an add-on.

You would have to get an opinion from someone who also owns a pair of jamo E800 speakers. However, that would be an OPINION. Only you can say if the sound of the Era 100’s is equal, better or less pleasing. As the Era 100’s are WiFi first you’ll also have to consider the audio source. Is your Amp a streaming device or just one that accepts audio from a CD player, turntables and/or AM/FM?

Thanks everyone for your help.   I’ll definitely go and listen to them in store .  As regards my current speakers I’ve found this on line http://www.linearaudio.com.br/pdf/e800_manual.pdf .  As regards the amp it’s a Teac A-H500i which is about 25 years old and I think just accepts inputs from cd/tuner/turntable so I may have to re-think things ( I was hoping to retain the use of the turntable and tuner particularly (all my cd’s are downloaded to my Mac so I should be able to get these on WiFi anyway)).

The Era 100s both (in a stereo set up), have a line in port that, with a Sonos adapter and a pre-amped turntable, should work. The Sonos software can have many different streaming radio apps associated, it would be extremely rare to have to use an external tuner.

Using the old setup as a phono preamp and input selector will certainly work.

Not a lot of useful information in the manual but I found more in reviews, I'd guess these would compare decently to the Era-100s.

Pick a store that has a decent listening area and honors the Sonos free return program and you can't go wrong.

After poking around a bit I suspect that the JAMO’S will have more aggressive bass. Adding a SONOS SUB will cure this -- if it is an issue for you. After adding a SUB to the 100’s there will be advantages in the midrange.

In the end only you know what sounds “best” (to you).

….have just found the manual  and the good news is that there are ‘rec jacks’ for the tape deck which per the internet I can use to connect to the era 100’s (unless you think otherwise) …. Thanks again for your help and any further advice will be gratefully received

Unlikely to be able to connect the turntable there, at least without some sort of internal, or external preamp. Most turntables put out a ‘phono’ level output, which is why most receivers label the input, as it goes to a preamp before being introduced to the rest of the amp.

That being said, a preamped turntable would certainly go into a rec in input on a tape player.

The Record Out jacks should do just fine as inputs to any Sonos, they should,be line-level and not controlled by the volume control. You'd want a dual RCA male to stereo 3.5 mm male cable to connect them.

With the 100s a mini-Sub might be a good match, I use a full sized Sub with my 300s and it really fills the room. The full sized one would work with the 100s too, it is easy to adjust the volume to match. If the store will let you try several combinations to see what your ears like.
