Which Sonos setup for a (very) small room?

Hi All

I am converting a small single bedroom into a dedicated movie watching room and was hoping for some advice as to what would be the optimum setup for the room.

TV Size - 65"
Viewing distance - 2.0m (6' 6")
Room width (minimum) - 2.4m (7' 11")
Room width (maximum) - 2.7m (8' 10")
Ceiling height - 2.4m (7' 11")
Room length - 3.8m (12' 6")

I am happy to spend the money on the setup below, but I was wondering if the small size of the room would make it massive overkill:

Arc Ultra
Sub Mini
2 x Era 300

Setup would be as per the image below.

So I guess my question is, will I be able to see the full benefits of the Arc Ultra and Era 300s over a Beam Gen 2 and Era 100s in a room this size, or will the very small volume of the room mean that they won't have enough space to work to their full potential?

I should also add that I'd happily upgrade to a Sub 4 (or 2 x Sub Minis) if that would be a big improvement, but am assuming that the small size of the room would make that unnecessary?

Thanks

If you get Atmos content the 300s are the way to go.

I'd prefer the Ultra over a Beam, the Beam would be adequate but not great.

The Ultra might have enough low end for that room, adequate by all means but not impressive. The miniSub is likely a good choice though, you won't regret it.

Here I use a full Sub in a 10x10 room and it isn't too much, but if the mini was available back when I was shopping I'd likely have one instead amd be happy.

I agree with @Stanley_4 . Your current setup is perfect IMO with one exception….

You may want to experiment with the placement of the sub to realize its full potential. Although in the end you may find the current placement is ideal.

Thinking back on past posts here, and ignoring the cost…

A full Sub, laying flat on the floor and slid under the chair.

Surely overkill but it would be awesome.

In such a small room I’d go without a Sub (Mini) first. The Arc Ultra provides bass (one of the improvements when comparing it to the original Arc). If you still find you lack bass go for the Sub, not the Mini (that might not complement anything to the bass that is already there).

Thanks for your responses. Given the feedback here and elsewhere where I have asked the question, I think that the Sub Mini is probably going to be sufficient for my needs. I’m not really a fan of ‘over the top’ bass and so I’d prefer something a little more reserved, and it sounds like the Sub Mini will probably hit that sweet spot. I should have mentioned that I’ve never owned a sub as part of my TV setup, so I think that the Sub Mini will feel like a big upgrade while ‘saving’ me £400 compared to the Sub Gen 4.

But it’s an interesting thought to try the Arc Ultra on its own first before buying the Sub Mini, and that is something that I might try unless I end up getting a bundle deal which would make it more expensive to add the Sub Mini later.

Hi @Dr Stu-Pid

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

But it’s an interesting thought to try the Arc Ultra on its own first before buying the Sub Mini, and that is something that I might try unless I end up getting a bundle deal which would make it more expensive to add the Sub Mini later.

Just to let you know, it’s not a problem to buy a bundle, decide you don’t want one part of it, and return only that part - the refund will be adjusted (you’ll get slightly less refunded than the full cost of a single unit, as is fair).

Having said that, there aren’t actually any bundles that include the Arc Ultra and the Sub Mini as the Arc Ultra is capable of a fair amount of bass all by itself thanks to its Sound Motion™ driver. We recommend pairing the Arc Ultra with 1 or 2 Sub 4 units (if buying new) to add bass to an Arc Ultra Home Theatre setup.

I hope this helps.

Most Sonos discount codes are per item and if it is listed as one thing in the store your discount should apply. I bought the Ultra, 300s Sub set recently using a single discount.

Sales are different and usually apply to every item in your cart.
